An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, Aug. 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Couple Of Nice Days Ahead

Currently 67 with an average wind from the SE of 4 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 30.13, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:50 am, Sunset 8:45 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today with a high near 80. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with patchy fog possible. Low 59. Light and variable winds.

Today and tomorrow should be quite pleasant. Might have some rain moving in for Wednesday and Thursday. Switching things up is a good thing. Don’t want to be complacent about nice weather, right? Anyway, nothing sounding too harsh coming our way. Disruption to our weather that will be total tag ends of the Tropical Storm Fred swinging past our area by Thursday. The far north shreds of it continue to curl off to the East Coast carried by continuing air currents making that big swing from the south to the east coast, but he’s not much more than a straggling soggy has-been by the time, without much success, any of it tries to include us in it. Still plenty of precipitation and flooding off to the south and off toward that East Coast, but nothing of note for our area.

Today, and indeed, the entire coming week, sounds just about perfect summer weather. Nothing too hot, no severe weather predicted. Ideal weather. Lucky us. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Better Temps After Today

Whether we get more rain/storms overnight or not, tomorrow ushers in much more comfortable temperatures. A high in the upper 70s is going to be welcome and refreshing.

I know many place around this state had to endure storms, wind, lots of lightening the past few days…but here in my little backyard? Seemed no end to the rumbles of thunder but that was mainly all there was to it. Plenty of sound but very little fury. And I was fine with that. Can do without all the damaging fury that occurred elsewhere.

Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-More Damaging Wind Possible

Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-More Damaging Wind Possible

Currently 77 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 29.82, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:45 am, Sunset 8:52 pm.

60% chance of overnight stray thunderstorms. Damaging winds and large hail with some strong storms possible. Low 72. SW winds 10-20 mph. Higher gusts possible.

For the next 24 hours or so there is a chance of severe storms. The risk is with us. Last night the south end of town got hit hard by wind. Trees down, carports crushed…it looks a bit like a war zone in spots. Here in the north end of town, nothing in my back yard. I did hear the wind kick up in the night and I heard things bumping around in the back yard, but this morning shows nothing damaged. Only measured about .25″ of rain in the gauge.

At any rate,  there is a good chance the strong winds will return later today and overnight so everyone should be aware and watchful. Once we get past this weather system the coming week look to be a winner, so just hold on.

Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Hot Days Ahead

Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Hot Days Ahead

Currently 75 with an average wind from the WNW of 4 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 70, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:44 am, Sunset 8:53 pm.

50% chance of overnight scattered showers and thunderstorms. A few storms could be severe. Low 71. SW winds 10-15 mph.

The Jet Stream is meandering along way up high over the country leaving most of us subject to the hot humid stuff coming up from the south. Lots of places over the next few days will be in the excessive heat warning area. Not so right here is SW Michigan but it will be hot enough for folks to be paying attention to hydrating and keeping as cool as possible. A fair chance of some storms tonight and tomorrow here in SW Michigan, too. So plenty to be aware of and to be watching.

Monday, Aug. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Possible Storms Today & Tonight

Monday, Aug. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Possible Storms Today & Tonight

90% chance of overnight thunderstorms. Some storms may contain gusty winds. Low 71. SSW winds 10-15 mph. 1″ of rainfall possible.

We likely will get some storms but don’t expect it to bring along lower temperatures. Tomorrow sounds like it will be warmer than today. Dryer, maybe, but warmer.  Perhaps a bit more rain on Wednesday and Thursday but other than that, smooth sailing with proper August summer weather. Just watch out for today and tonight’s storms.

Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Uncomfortable Weather

Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Uncomfortable Weather

Currently 80 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 85 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 29.92, Humidity 85%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:42 am, Sunset 8:56 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 15% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm popping up. High of 90. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy over night with that same small chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. Low of 75. SSW winds 10-15 mph.

Our overnight temperatures tonight aren’t going to be all that helpful for those who like cooler weather. In fact the next few days won’t be in their favor. Tomorrow might bring a chance for some heavy rain. A few days of warm temperatures and storm chance and after that, starting about Friday, it looks like a bit cooler weather will be ours. Need to hang in here, keep cool, an eye on the sky for storms and we’ll get through this. In the meantime, thank goodness for A/C…which is strange because I didn’t have it for most of my life and don’t really care for it now. Except when it gets hot and humid. Those days I am at least a temporary fan.

Saturday, August 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Warming Up To A Hot, Humid Sunday

Saturday, August 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Warming Up To A Hot, Humid Sunday

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight thunderstorms developing late. Low near 70. S winds 5 -10 mph.

Tomorrow should end up hot and humid, close to 90 degrees. Monday will likely be a little cooler but still in the low 80s with a fair chance of some rain. In fact, a bit of a chance of rain all week. The next chance of dropping out of the 80 degree range seems to be next weekend. Who knows by then?
