An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Friday, Oct. 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Could See Some Afternoon And Overnight Rain

Currently 54 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 53, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.89, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 7:01 pm.

Increasing clouds with a 40% chance of afternoon rain showers. High 66. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

40% chance of evening rain showers with overcast skies the rest of the night. Low 47. NW winds 5-10 mph.

Nothing earth shattering coming but colder weather is on the way for us. No freeze or frost in view yet but we know that’s only a matter of time. In the meanwhile our temperatures will remain comfortable for mid October. This is definitely the month to get busy and get ready for the coming winter season. October also brings us plenty of opportunity for rain so working in the chores between rains is the key to success. But time is flitting, this is, after all the middle of October so whatever tasks you have on hand you might want to address now rather than later. Mother Nature isn’t known for accommodating humans to any great degree.

Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of Rainy Days Then A Terrific Week Ahead

Measured .38″ of rain in the gauge this morning with more to discover later on. Raining off and on – mostly on – all morning so far. Tomorrow and probably Saturday look for a little more rain, but from Sunday on it’s going to be terrific. Cooler than we’ve been which will make a lot of folks happy and no rain in view. Good week to get outside things that need to be done, done.

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Another Foggy, Cloudy Morning

Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Another Foggy, Cloudy Morning

Currently 60 degrees with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 60, Humidity 99%, Barometer 29.98, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 7:04 pm.

Foggy this morning. Mostly cloudy with a high of 71 degrees. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Some rain tomorrow and probably Friday but the rest of the week ahead is looking good. 60 degrees for the most part and no precip predicted. Not that we won’t get any. Like we’ve noted before October is a month when rain can crop up seemingly out of the blue, but as of now now in sight. Looks like a good Autumn week coming up.

Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Once Again Missed Most Of Storm

Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Once Again Missed Most Of Storm

Currently 62 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 62 degrees. Dew Point 61, Humidity 99%, Barometer 29.78, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 7:06 pm.

60% chance of showers becoming less numerous as the day progresses. High 66, SW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 24% chance of overnight showers. Low 57. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

As always seems to happen, there seemed to be a thin part of yesterday’s storm system as it races up from the south to the north of us. And we were once again in that less harsh part of it. Not complaining, just explaining. Here I measured only .55″ of rain. Had a very strong wind for a brief while, but it died down and except for thunder and lightening, nothing of note here. I’m sure, looking at the size of that storm and the fact that hazardous storm warnings had been posted, others did not fare so well, but that’s the story from here.

Several days of rain are coming to us still. Sunday, through what I can see of next week, sounds to be clear and comfortable. Maybe a good time to get things done before the clear and comfortable become a thing of the past? Does not make me happy hearing about the snowfall already in the West. I know it’s coming to us eventually – but never ready nor thrilled when that happens. Won’t be long before I start dreaming about how nice it was to be able to open the door and walk out without a coat, hat, glove, boots…yuck!

Monday, Oct. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-Clouds To Possible Storms Tonight

Monday, Oct. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-Clouds To Possible Storms Tonight

Current temperature 69 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 65, Humidity 88 %, Barometer 29.78, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 7:07 pm

Partly cloudy this morning to cloudy with a chance of showers or thunderstorms possible later. High 79. S winds 10-20 mph.

70% chance of rain and thunderstorms. The potential for severe storms will be possible. Low 61. SSE winds 10-15 mph.

Sounds like a storm system is making its way up to our area with the chance of some severe storms mixed in there. So just be aware. Tomorrow sound like more rain than not with another chance coming Thursday and Friday. So, enjoy the partly sunny skies this morning.

Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Unseasonable Warmth

Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Unseasonable Warmth

Currently 73 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 67, Humidity 84%, Barometer 29.8, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 7:09 pm.

Partly cloudy morning will become a cloudy afternoon with a slight chance of showers. High near 80. S winds 10-20 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Low 67, S winds 10-15 mph.

Today is so comfortable. A delightful breeze this morning that didn’t really smell of spring, but it had the same feel on the face. The Jet Stream is fooling around up there and looks from here like it about to dip enough to bring us some cooler temperatures this coming week. No idea right now what it plans to do after that but I’d appreciate it if it would drift upwards again and leave us in this nice temperature range. Doubtful but hopeful.  In the meantime there is a system of rain sweeping across toward us which might bring us some rain this afternoon. And Monday. And Tuesday.

Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-More Fog And Gloomy Morning

Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-More Fog And Gloomy Morning

Currently 63 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 96%, Barometer 29.97, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 7:11 pm.

Cloudy skies early followed by partial clearing. Slight chance of rain. High 72. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of late night showers and thunderstorms. Low 63. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Fog seems to have settled in for good – well, probably not, but most mornings lately have involved fog in some degree or other. Looking ahead, it now appears as if our temperatures about this time next week might not get out of the 50s. Now that’s brutal to me. Hopefully they won’t stay there but hey…it is October so anything is possible. Me? I’m hoping for the possibility of September temperatures hanging around a bit longer. Since I have no official say in it, well get what what we get. As usual.

Friday, Oct. 8, 2021-SW Michigan-Steady Downpour This Morning

Friday, Oct. 8, 2021-SW Michigan-Steady Downpour This Morning

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SE of 4 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 66, Humidity 98%, Barometer 30.05, Visibility 2.4 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 7:13 pm.

100% chance of steady rain. High 71 degrees. Light and variable winds.

60% chance of isolated thunderstorms in the evening then mostly cloudy the rest of the night. Low around 60. Light and variable winds.

Pretty much a solid heavy rain out there so far this morning. Haven’t ventured out to feed the birds and critters as I don’t want to drown and I don’t see so much as a hint of anything else out there feeling any different. Once it lets up – and it will eventually – I’ll go scatter a late breakfast for them. In the meantime watching plenty of big green blobs moving across the weather map over our state.

Not a bad week coming up but by this time next week we could be firmly planted in the 60 degree range. Not sure we’ll be stuck there but I see several days in a row, no clue about what’s beyond that. I reckon we’ll find out when we get there.

Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Another Foggy Fall Morning

Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Another Foggy Fall Morning

Currently 64 with an average wind from the E of 10 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 98%, Humidity 98%, Barometer 30.18, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:47 am, Sunset 7;14 pm.

Cloudy with a 60% chance of occasional rain showers. Thunder possible. High 72. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

The same cloudy sky and 60% chance of rain overnight. Low 63. SE winds 5 -10 mph.

Another colorless sky with fog clinging to the trees. Still, the temperatures are supposed to stay in the comfortable range for this time of year. Fog and rain we can expect at any day during this month but there have been years when the temperature has been much cooler. We’re lucky that isn’t the case this year. All too soon those temperatures will take a dive and out will come the cold weather gear. I’m content with this, light jacket, maybe a need for an umbrella.

Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Slightly Foggy With Clouds

Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Slightly Foggy With Clouds

Currently 57 with an average wind from the NE of 7 mph. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 57, Humidity 95%, Visibility 0.83 mi, Sunrise 7:46 am, Sunset 7:16 pm.

Mostly cloudy this morning becoming partly cloudy this afternoon. Foggy, which should burn off shortly. High 74. E winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy overnight skies with a slight chance of rain. Low 61. E winds 5-10 mph.

Sort of a dismal morning but hopes for a brighter afternoon. Sounds like rain tomorrow.

Took down the Hummingbird feeder and put it away for the year. Makes me sad, but hey…I don’t blame the tiny feathered creatures for wanting to go where it’s warm in the winter. I would if I could, too. I’m praying they make it down where ever they’re heading and get there safe. And safely back here to me next year. I’ll be waiting and watching.
