An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, Oct. 25, 2021-SW Michigan-A Rainy Monday

Currently 44 with an average wind from the N of 1 mph. Feels like 44 degrees. Dew Point 44, Humidity 99%, Barometer 29.84, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 6:45 pm.

100% chance of rain today. High 48. NNE winds 15-25 with higher gusts possible.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 37. N winds 10-20 mph.

A chilly wet morning and it appears this will be our condition all day long. Measured .66″ of rain this morning an hour or so ago when I went out to feed the birds and critters. Look forward to tomorrow. So far, the forecast of sunshine tomorrow is still holding. Fingers crossed it will continue. So gloomy that I figured it would be a good day to post Glenn’s double rainbow picture. Brightens things up a bit, doesn’t it? Lovely.

Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilling Down

Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilling Down

Currently 46 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 46 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.04, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 6:47 pm.

Partly cloudy morning, clouding up more as the day advances. A slight chance of a rain shower. High 52. E winds 5 -10 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Low 43. ENE winds 15-25 mph.

It was only 29 degrees this morning when I went out to feed the birds and critters. Already too chilly for me…and this is only the beginning. Looks to be a week ahead of 40 degree days and 30 degree nights. Seasonal as we are fast approaching November. Hard to believe, but we are.

Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Nicely Foggy Morning

Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Nicely Foggy Morning

Currently 44 with an average wind from the SW of 6 mph. Feels like 44 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 94%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 6:48 pm.

Partly to mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of light rain until about midday. High 51. W winds 5 -10 mph.

A few passing overnight clouds with patchy frost possible. Low 34. Light and variable winds.

A quiet, secretive morning. Mist and fog making everything muted and soft. One of my favorite sort of mornings to tell you the truth. By now both are lifting and lightening so it’s going to turn into a rather cloudy day. At least the temperature ia going to make it up into the fifties. Barely, but still…First mention of frost creeping into the forecast and it won’t be long before that will be commonplace. So far, mostly 50 degree days and nothing directly into the freezing zone as yet during our night time hours. Coming, but not here yet.

Friday, Oct. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly October Morning

Friday, Oct. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly October Morning

Currently 40 with an average wind from the NE of 1 mph. Feels like 40 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 93%, Barometer 30.07, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 6:50 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a rain shower. High 48. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy overnight with a low of 38. Light and variable.

No overnight freezing in sight yet but can’t be all that far off. Chilly mornings make getting up a tad less inviting for those able to stay in a warm bed as long as possible. Unless you have a cat or a dog who insists that routine be adhered to regardless of comfort levels.

Our Autumn has been a warm one so far and our leaf peeping minimal due to lack of brilliance in color. Leaves are falling still green or looking a dead brown at best. Some color is showing up and will show up but it had best hustle along in order not to get buried under ice or snow, which is bound to show up eventually. This is actually what worries me…heavy snow on trees still hanging on to leaves makes for broken limbs and power outages. Hopefully the harsh weather will hold off until the trees decide to shed their foliage. Looking good so far. No wintry weather in our forecast even though it’s starting to show up far too often out west. Which means sooner or later…

Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly Weather Showing Up

Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly Weather Showing Up

Currently 58 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 58 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 29.76, Barometer 30.07, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 6:51 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of off and on rain today. A high of 57 degrees. W winds 10-20 mph.

Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 37. NNW winds 10-20 mph.

A few good rains last night, best one around midnight, with lots of lightening. Measured .42″ of rain in the gauge this morning. Looking ahead there are some 40 degree days and some 30 degree nights showing up. It’s that time. Time to go shopping for a heated bird bath for me ’cause last year mine bit the dust. Alas…

At any rate, a rather colorless fall pattern in play this time around. Some gold, a lot of brown and rust showing up but none of the brilliance that makes driving around seeking out the best color shots for pictures. Not this time around. Hopefully next year. Now wondering what the LaNina weather pattern is going to present us with. Seen several forecasts but for me it looks like maybe not so cold, but more snow. Of course that could become colder but with less snow in a heartbeat. That’s Michigan winter. Who knows? We just take what we get.

Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Some Rain Coming Our Way

Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Some Rain Coming Our Way

Currently 50 with an average wind from the NE of 1 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 92%, Barometer 30.07, Visibility 9 mil, Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 6:53 pm.

Partly cloudy morning will becoming overcast with a 20% chance of afternoon rain. High 71. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

60% chance of overnight rain. Low 57. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Looks like rain later today and tomorrow. Then the powers that be seem to have painted rain in the picture for Sunday. Not good news for all of those who depend on that day for getting things done, but nothing we can do about it. Except plan and hope for another day that’s better.  Also looks like this is about the last of our 70 degree days, too. Said goodbye to the 80s a bit back and now these vanish. Drat. Mostly 50 degree days heading out way with maybe a sprinkling of 60 now and then later next week. But don’t be looking for anything warmer than that for us for a good long while. Probably not in the cards for us.

Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of 70 Degree Days Coming

Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021-SW Michigan-A Couple Of 70 Degree Days Coming

Currently 37 with a calm wind from the SW. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.09, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 6:54 pm.

Partly cloudy today with a high of 71. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly clear overnight. Low 45. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

Today and tomorrow we should be seeing 70 degree temperatures but looks like mostly 50 degree days coming after that. The rain on Thursday should be instrumental in ushering in the 50s and shooing off the 70s. Nice while they’re here though.

Seeing and hearing that dread S word now on the national weather maps. Thankfully it’s still out in the west but we know how it goes, don’t we? Eventually it’s going to weasel its way into our weather system and there we’ll be…cold and frozen again. If wishes could hold it off…..

Monday, Oct. 18, 2021-SW Michigan-A Few Beautiful 70 Degree Weather Days Coming

Monday, Oct. 18, 2021-SW Michigan-A Few Beautiful 70 Degree Weather Days Coming

Clear overnight. Low 45. Light and variable winds.

Get ready for a lovely Tuesday and Wednesday this week. As of now, both days should be at 70 degrees with sunshine. Can not get better than that for mid-October. So, it’s going to rain on Thursday and usher in some cooler temperatures, but hey…until then enjoy. I know I sure will.

A great week coming our way. Tuesday sounds like the best day with a high near 70. Maybe some rain on Thursday but other than that nothing but great Autumn weather for us. Sounds delightful.

Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021-SW Michigan- A Good Week Ahead Of Us

Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021-SW Michigan- A Good Week Ahead Of Us

Currently 49 degrees with an average wind from the W of 10 mph. Feels like 49 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 83%, Barometer 29.88, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 6:59 pm.

Mostly sunny becoming partly sunny this afternoon. High 51. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight skies. Low 43. WNW winds 5 -10 mph.

Had a bit of rain – .15″ in the rain gauge this morning. But until about next Thursday, we aren’t looking at any rain coming our way. Should be a great week with a few days of temperature in the upper 60s. Can’t ask for more or better this time of year.
