An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2021-SW Michigan-Hoping For Some Afternoon Sun

Currently 62 with an average wind from the E of 4 mph. Feels like 62 degrees. Dew Point 59, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.2, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 7:18 pm.

Cloudy early with possible peeks of sunshine later on in the day. High 71. ENE winds 10-15 mph.

Some passing overnight clouds. Low near 55. ENE winds 5 -10 mph.

A rather dismal morning but hopes are high that a peek or two of sunshine will break through later on today. We’re now entering the time of year when mist or rain or some sort of precipitation can crop up any day. When it’s not unusual to find a day that had been predicted to be sunny or mostly so to be instead overcast with a chance of showers. It’s a Michigan October after all. Temperatures still predicted to remain in the 70s. Now perhaps some rain Thursday – Sunday. So…maybe or maybe not that will all happen. But that’s the weather news as of today.

Monday, Oct. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Dealing With Some Rain

Monday, Oct. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Dealing With Some Rain

Currently 64 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 29.88, Humidity 96%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:44 am, Sunset 7:20 pm.

100% chance of rain today. Areas of fog early. High around 70. NE winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a slight chance of rain. Low 58. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Measured almost 1 1/4″ of rain since yesterday morning in my little backyard. Yesterday’s downpours were something fierce at times. Today, nothing but light rain so far and our temperatures look to be staying fairly warm for this time of year. Appears they will be in the 70 degree range all week. Even saw one site claiming a possible 80 tomorrow, but we’ll have to wait and see on that one. In the meantime, was great to get some much needed rain.

Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Heavy Morning Rain

Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Heavy Morning Rain

Currently 63 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 29.84, Humidity 2.5 mi., Sunrise 7:43 am, Sunset 7:21 pm.

100% chance of heavy rain with thunderstorms. High around 70 degrees. Light and variable winds.

80% chance of overnight thunderstorms and rain. Low around 60. Light and variable winds.

Rainfall so heavy this morning it made driving a tad scary not being able to see too far ahead and it got so dark my confused little solar lights came on for awhile. Will be interesting to see how much rain we end up with when all is said and done. I’m sure it won’t be raining this heavy all day, but we are expecting a day full of precipitation. Sure did need it in my little bone dry backyard.

A strong system of southern moisture is flowing up our way with another strong system coming in from the West doing its best to blow it all to the East, so what we’re getting they’ll be having to deal with us farther East as time goes along. Moderation would be nice but Mother Nature rarely operates under such order. We take what we get. Right now, right here, that’s plenty of rain.

Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Get Rain This Weekend

Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Get Rain This Weekend

Currently 61 with an average wind from the SW of 5mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:42 am, Sunset 7:23 pm.

Plenty of clouds with a 40% chance of afternoon rain. High 77. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

80% chance of evening thunderstorms then cloudy with a chance of overnight rain. Low 62. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

The morning sky was pretty with great lumps of clouds filling in what little blue there was in the beginning. Now it’s completely overcast and the thought of rain sounds about right. Cooler than yesterday but yesterday was a bit warmer than we usually think of October anyway. Seems like the coming week  appears to be bringing us upper 60s and low 70s for our daytime temperatures.

On a sad note – well, for me – I haven’t seen a Hummingbird at my feeder since Wednesday. I think they’re gone. I’ll keep the feeder fresh and filled for at least another week to take care of any late flyers who need a snack on their way by (In past years there have been a few show up) but I feel like I always do this time of year. Hoping the little things have a safe flight on their long journey to their winter home. I always worry about them.

Friday, Oct. 1, 2021-SW Michigan-October Coming In With An 80 Degree Day

Friday, Oct. 1, 2021-SW Michigan-October Coming In With An 80 Degree Day

Currently 55 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 51, Barometer 30.25, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:41 am, Sunset 7:25 pm.

Sunny skies today with a high near 81. SSW winds  5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 56. Light and variable winds.

Now it looks as if our week ahead may stay in the 70 degree range for the most part.  A system of rain appears to stretch from Texas all to way up past Michigan and that line of showers will move toward us likely later on Saturday.  S0 still talking about rain for Saturday and Sunday, but doesn’t look as if it’s going to cool down drastically real soon. I don’t see any more 80 degree days , but hey…this one was a surprise so who knows? May be more surprisingly warm weather ahead this coming month. That’s pretty good news. Still not a tremendous amount of color – I doubt this is going to be one of those gloriously colorful years, but again…who knows? Here and there a tree has decided to celebrate even if all by itself, and it’s a pretty sight. But the leaves had better get with it if they’re going to as this is October after all.

Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Sept Ending On A High Note

Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Sept Ending On A High Note

Currently 63 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 52, Barometer 30.21, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 7:27 pm.

Partly cloudy today with a high of 77 degrees. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 51 degrees. Light and variable winds.

Enjoy these nice temperatures now because it looks as if Sunday through Wednesday our high temperatures will only be in the upper 60s. With rain added just for the fun of it.  Doesn’t sound very pleasant, so these are the days to get out and about and tend to things. 60 degrees and a cold rain sounds perfectly miserable. You do realize that with Fall upon us, we’ll be getting more and more of that sort of day. And then it will snow. This sounds very much like a sad story to me so I’m going to close this particular book and go read something better. It’s called Spring….

Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Lovely Weather Continues

Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Lovely Weather Continues

Currently 57 with an average wind from the ESE of 4 mph. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 53, Barometer 30.12, Humidity 87%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 7:28 pm.

Sunny today with a high of 76 degrees. Light and variable winds for the most part.

Clear overnight skies. Low 50 degrees. Light and variable winds.

This week is an absolute delight. Rain perhaps coming by the weekend, but these day are as good as could be hoped for. Comfortable temperature, abundant sunshine, no breezes to speak of.  The Jet Stream, as of now, is curved way high above our state, leaving us nestled in the wonderful weather that we’re experiencing. This would be pleasant to have stretched out much longer than it likely will be. In the meantime, enjoy it. I sure am doing just that.

Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Perfect Autumn Weather

Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Perfect Autumn Weather

Currently 57 with an average wind from the ENE of 3 mph. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 50, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 83%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:37 am, Sunset 7:30 pm.

Nothing but sunshine all day long. High 74 degrees. Light and variable winds.

Clear overnight skies. Low 48. Light and variable winds.

For some reason I have something on my phone that keeps cropping up every morning with an alert that rain is gong to start in 15 minutes. Not a cloud in the sky. No clouds expected. And certainly no rain expected. But those alerts just keep cropping up. Entertaining but rather useless. At any rate – no rain today. In fact it looks like bout next Sunday when we can expect a bit of precipitation. And I’m hoping not then. Come on…Sunday? Would be nice if it held off until Monday. We’ll see how it goes. In the meantime I’m sure my phone will keep on predicting rain until it finally does rain.

Monday, Sept. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Might Reach 80 Today

Monday, Sept. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Might Reach 80 Today

Currently 70 with an average wind from the WSW of 13 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 59, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:36 am, Sunset 7:32 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today with a high near 80. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Clearing to partly cloudy overnight with a low around 50. NNE winds 5 -10 mph.

Well…what a relief. According to one of the weather stations I check in with, the nearest lightening strike to me is 1039.0 miles away. Guess I don’t have to fear being hit by lightening this morning. And nothing to fear from the weather at all for that matter. A lovely day, very likely the highest temperature we’re going to reach in some time, so I’m going to enjoy  it. Hope you do, too. No rain in sight for the week – as of now. Temperatures still remaining in the 70 degree range. Very pleasant.

Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Splendid Fall Weather Continues

Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Splendid Fall Weather Continues

Currently 66 with an average wind from the SW of 6 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 53, Barometer 29.92, Humidity 65%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 7:34 pm.

Partly cloudy becoming overcast later on. High 74. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy early on with clearing later during the night. Low 62. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Still looks to be 70 degrees all week long only losing a degree or so about next Sunday where it appears the 60 degree range is coming into view for our daytime temps. Not a hint of rain so far all week ahead, so it’s going to be nothing but delightful. Lots of leaves falling but hard to imagine why because there really isn’t much color change in my area. Probably just dry leaves giving up the ghost. Makes for a messy driveway but after all, it is -and this is hard to believe – we are coming up to the end of September already. Colors should be showing up soon.
