An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Dry Day Today, Rain Perhaps Tomorrow

Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Dry Day Today, Rain Perhaps Tomorrow

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SW of 2 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 56, Barometer 30.04, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:47 am, Sunset 5:13 pm.

Partly cloudy morning becoming mostly cloudy afternoon. High 48. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 60% chance of rain showers. 42 degrees. SW winds 5-10 mph.

Tomorrow will bring rain, possibly as the day goes along mixed with a little snow. So going to where ever you’re heading for might be a little better than the trip home. No matter which way it swings, it’s still better than some of our Thanksgiving Days in the past. Have had them with plenty of snow both coming and going. The rest of the week looks dry, perhaps still some precipitation showing up for Sunday, but that could change by the time we get there. Wait and see.

Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-A Sunny, Cool November Day

Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-A Sunny, Cool November Day

Currently 26 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew point 20, Humidity 76%, Barometer 30.24, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7;46 am, Sunset 5:14 pm.

Clear sunny skies today with a high of 42. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 32. S winds 10-15 mph.

A glorious day to be out and about shopping for Thanksgiving needs, maybe doing some Christmas shopping? Looks like, for some of the weather sights, the threat of rain for Thanksgiving Day has been moved to next Sunday – with the possibility of some snow showers mixed in. For others? The rain remains for Thursday, so whatever we get, a dry day or a damp day, we have our choice of what to look forward to. Not what we actually get, but hey…can’t have everything. As for the snow showers and flurries being mentioned now and again, it’s bound to happen sooner or later. Snow will start showing up more often. At least it’s not mixed in with our Thanksgiving celebration this year. Maybe rain.  But then again, maybe not.

Monday, Nov. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Blustery Winds Continue

Monday, Nov. 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Blustery Winds Continue

Currently 31 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 60%, Barometer 30.15, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 5:14 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today with a high around 33 degrees. WNW winds 20-30 mph with higher gusts likely. Gusty winds should diminish during the afternoon.

Clear overnight skies. Low 22 degrees. Light and variable winds.

Last nights high winds sure drove down a lot of leaves. My yard, front and back, are covered in thick layers of dead leaves. I’m sure I’m not alone. Looks like the only rain coming in this week could be on Thanksgiving Day. Swell, huh? At least it’s only going to be rain, if it does happen, and not snow. So driving to and fro shouldn’t be any big hassle. Good news for those traveling.

Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Wind, Chill Coming At Us

Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Wind, Chill Coming At Us

Currently 43 with an average wind from the W of 2 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 38, Humidity 87%, Barometer 29.98, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:44 am, Sunset 5:15 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of light rain showers. High in the upper 40s. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 26. WNW Winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

There is a cold front set to move through and a wind system right along with it. Still not seeing any big snow events for us for Thanksgiving week. But we will be getting some cold nights. Expect to see a lot of 20 degree night time temperatures.

Still interesting seeing how many trees are hanging on to leaves so late this year. And a lot of them on the green side. I’m hoping heavy wet snows hold off because with all the foliage still up there ready to grab ahold of the weight we could be in for more than our share of power outages if push comes to shove. I’m hoping not, but the possibility is definitely there.

Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Gloomy Today But A Good Week On Tap

Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Gloomy Today But A Good Week On Tap

Currently 37 with an average wind from the S of 3 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 37%, Barometer 30.23, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:43 am, Sunset 5:16 pm.

80% chance of light snow showers this morning. Cloudy afternoon. High 43. SSW  winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a low of 33. Light and variable winds.

Looks like a snow-less Thanksgiving here. That should make traveling about easier than otherwise. Chilly weather, but not big storms, no big snows. I wouldn’t bet on that for the Christmas holiday, but that’s a long way ahead, so who knows, really? Some rain coming in tomorrow but from Monday on it looks dry.  At least for now, that’s the view. Tuesday should give us a lot of sunshine, which will be pleasant. So we’re basically looking at chilly but mostly dry weather this coming week. Can’t ask for better than that at this time of year in Michigan.

Friday, Nov. 19, 2021-SW Michigan-Not Going To See Much Sunshine Today

Friday, Nov. 19, 2021-SW Michigan-Not Going To See Much Sunshine Today

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 76%, Barometer 30.48, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:41 am, Sunset 5:16 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high near 40. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy with a low of 31. S winds 5 -10 mph.

A brief showing of blue sky this morning quickly closed off leaving nothing much but clouds in place. Seems to be what we’re going to get today. Tomorrow might be a good day to be out and about tending to outdoor things…and next Tuesday, which sounds even better. Those dry, fairly bright days are in the minority and will likely stay that way. Anyone wanting to put up Christmas lights in November comfort might want to be paying attention. And haven’t those of us who put up Christmas lights learned the hard way how unfortunate it is to wait until December weather is hard on us to take care of such things? Might not light them until after Thanksgiving – and I’m one of the keep the holidays apart and spectacular in their own right folk – but having them in place and ready in relative comfort seems smart to me.

Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Snow Showers

Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Snow Showers

Currently 37 with an average wind from the W of 4 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 66%, Barometer 30.06, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 5:17 pm.

Cloudy today with a 40% chance of afternoon snow showers. High in the mid 30s. W winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

Becoming partly cloudy with a 30% chance of flurries or show showers. Low 27. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

The rest of the month of November doesn’t really look too bad. Some wind and maybe some snow next Monday…cool days with chances of the same scattered about through the rest of it. But the month of December, I think, might prove to be different. Definitely looks to be a fairly strong LaNina building and with the Great Lakes warmer than usual, the chances for some pretty big lake effect snows is looking likely. I think this year, for the snow lovers out there, this might be a better year. For folks like me, a good opportunity to hibernate even more than usual.

Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Drab, Gloomy November Day

Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Drab, Gloomy November Day

Currently 55 with an average wind from the WSW of 2 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 54, Humidity 96%, Barometer 29.75, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:39 am, Sunset 5:18 pm.

90% chance of rain. High 57. WSW winds 10-15 with gusts to 30.

Cloudy to partly cloudy with a slight chance of rain/snow showers in the evening. Low 33. W winds 10-15 mph.

Enjoy the rather warm temperatures today ’cause they’ll be gone by tomorrow. Starting to see lots of evidence that this year will be a snowier one than we’ve had lately. Doesn’t make me thrilled but it does plenty of others. Me? I’ll be hibernating as much as possible. Just a heads up in case it comes about.

Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Working Up For A Warm Day Followed Again By Cold

Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Working Up For A Warm Day Followed Again By Cold

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SE 2 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 96%, Barometer 30.17, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:37 am, Sunset 5:19 pm.

Morning fog. Cloudy with some peeks of sunshine. High near 45. SE winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a 70% chance of light rain. Low 38. SSE winds 10-15 mph.

A strong system with some wind and rain moving in overnight and tomorrow and when they leave we’ll be left with cooler temperatures again. Secret is enjoy what warmth we get when we get it.

Monday, Nov. 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Gloomy, Slight Change Of Flurries

Monday, Nov. 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Gloomy, Slight Change Of Flurries

Currently 35 with an average wind from the W of 2 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 77%, Barometer 30.26, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:36 am, Sunset 5:20 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain/snow showers. High in the upper 30s. W winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight flurries. Low 26 degrees. Light and variable winds becoming SE during the night.

Except for Wednesday, where it does look like there’s a good chance for slightly warmer temps and rain, the rest of the week looks more or less dry. Not zero % for precipitation but low enough so worrying about it is a waste of time. In other words, not a bad week for mid November coming up.
