An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-A Pleasant December Day In Store

Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-A Pleasant December Day In Store

Currently 37 with an average wind from the WSW of 6 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 61%, Barometer 30.22, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Sun and clouds mix today with a high of 39. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming cloudy overnight. Low 28. NNE winds 5- 10 mph.

Tomorrow’s forecast now seems to indicate only rain rather than snow. And snow, although it does crop up for two or three days, does not appear to be anything significant for our area. We’ll see how that goes…goodness knows it’s changed already from just yesterday :>)

Friday, Dec. 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Some Snow Maybe Some Rain Today

Friday, Dec. 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Some Snow Maybe Some Rain Today

Currently 33 with an average wind from the NE of 3 mph. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.12, Visibility 0.95 mi.,Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

90% chance of morning snow perhaps at some point mixed with rain. Afternoon clouds. High 35. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy early decreasing to partly cloudy during the night. Low near30. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Saturday doesn’t appear to be bringing any precipitation. We still remain on the lower edge of the snow system working it’s way along so Sunday seems to be verging on mostly rain for us. We could get snow on Monday, perhaps Tuesday. Not sure how much but for now doesn’t look too impressive. Things can change but right now looks like once again we will miss out on the majority of the snow.

Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Today, But Things Will Chance By Sunday

Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Today, But Things Will Chance By Sunday

Currently 49 with an average wind from the SW 2 mph. Feels like 49 degrees. Dew Point 39, Humidity 75%, Barometer 29.64, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

A morning mix of sun and clouds will become afternoon cloudy with a high around 46. WNW winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a few snow flurries or showers possible. Low near 30. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

Might get a bit of rain/snow mix tomorrow, nothing much on Saturday, but on Sunday we’ll be on the lower edge of a snow system. We might get some, but the majority of the snow will be, once again, in the upper part of Michigan. It will lower our temperatures quite a bit by Monday compared to where we are right now. However, wintry weather seems late setting in and no major snow storms anywhere across the country up to now, which is very late. I feel like we’ll end up with more snow this year than last, but it’s taking its time beginning.

Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021-SW Michigan- Meteorological Winter Begins

Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021-SW Michigan- Meteorological Winter Begins

Currently 31 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.05, Visibility 9 mi.,Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5;10 pm.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of morning rain/snow. High 42. S winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy overnight skies with a low of 41. SW winds 10-20 mph.

Another Clipper System is set to breeze by us, but this one will bring us more rain than snow. Not so much the system taking aim for Michigan by Sunday. Perhaps some snow here during that one (which would be much better than a wintry mix, which is always a mess) but the possibility of lots more snow is there for farther north – where they really need it for winter sports. Could be good for them.

The only seasonal change that makes sense to me is the Meteorological one. I know the reasoning behind the Astronomical calendar, but it really doesn’t lend itself well to breaking the seasons down in the 3 month parcels they fit in to. So- the real beginning of winter is upon us as of today. For me, just means getting through December, January, February because…March could be nice. Anxious for it already.

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Morning Fog, Maybe A Bit Of Afternoon Drizzle

Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Morning Fog, Maybe A Bit Of Afternoon Drizzle

Currently 30 with an average wind from the WNW of 3 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 31, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.94, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 5:10 pm.

Patchy morning fog with partly cloudy skies. Chance of afternoon drizzle with a high around 39. WNW winds 10-20 with gusts to 25 mph.

Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy. Low 26. W winds 5-10 mph becoming light overnight.

We seem to be heading into an every other day pattern….rain or snow showers one day, partly sunny skies the next. And it looks to be alternating clear past the weekend. Of course, we all know how fast that can change, but for now that’s the way it’s looking.

I measured about 2 1/4″ of snow from yesterday’s storm. It seemed to be a fast mover so it probably could have been worse had it hung around longer.

Monday, Nov. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Partly Cloudy Morning To Afternoon Snow Forecast

Monday, Nov. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Partly Cloudy Morning To Afternoon Snow Forecast

Currently 23 with an average calm wind from the SSW. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.1, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 5:10 pm.

Partly sunny morning with increasing clouds leading to an 80% chance of snow showers. High near 40. SSW winds 5 -10 mph.

100% chance of evening snow showers will taper off to cloudy skies. Low 39. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Some peeks of sunshine this morning. Cold, but at least some color showing up. Not expecting that for later today. Sounds like snow moving in late and overnight. The coming week doesn’t sound bad. Maybe even a day in the upper 40s around Thursday. We’ll see, but December coming in could be a whole lot worse.

Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Off And On Snow Showers

Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Off And On Snow Showers

Currently 35 with an average wind from the NW of 4 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.91, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

Variable cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Temperatures near steady in the mid 30s. NW winds 10-20 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy overnight. Low 23. WNW winds 5-10 mph.

Did end up with about 2 1/2″ of overnight snow. Light snow showers off and on all morning. Looks like perhaps more snow showers tomorrow but the rest of the week either just clouds or perhaps some rain. Don’t worry. Snow will be back before you know it.

Saturday, Nov. 27-SW Michigan-Snow Today

Saturday, Nov. 27-SW Michigan-Snow Today

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SE of 9 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 21, Humidity 74%, Barometer 27.99, Visibility 0.99 mi., Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect today. Could end up with 3″ of snow.

90% chance of snow showers. Temperature holding steady low to mid 30s. ESE winds 5-10 mph.

70% chance of overnight snow. Low 29. Light and variable winds.

Right on time, the snow that was forecast to begin around 10:00 this morning did it’s thing and started falling. Sounds like we could end up with our first measurable snow for the season. One of many is my guess. I’m betting on a lot more snow this winter than last. Could be wrong, but we’ll see by spring. Plenty of people would be happy about that. I’m not one of them, but I’m lucky enough to be able to stay inside and watch it through the window for the most part. That’s what I plan on doing today.

Friday, Nov. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Gloomy Gray Black Friday Weather

Friday, Nov. 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Gloomy Gray Black Friday Weather

Currently 28 with an average wind from the W of 1 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 18, Humidity 68%, Barometer 30.18, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 5:12 pm.

Cloudy with a high of 32 degrees. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Low 23. Light and variable winds.

Some snow moving in Saturday night through early Sunday but on the whole, next week appears to be offering us some comfortable temperatures. Right now, there is a possibility of an upper 40 degree day on Thursday. Who knows what it will be by the time Thursday rolls around, but for now, nice.

Am I the only one overwhelmed with the preponderance of Black Fridays so far this year? Was a time when Black Friday meant the day after Thanksgiving and it was looked forward to. This year all I’ve seen and heard was Black Friday deals pouring out of the woodwork from everywhere. Every single day.  All month long. Beyond overkill. Much like radio stations beginning Christmas music after Halloween. It’s as if November/Thanksgiving Day has absolutely no meaning for them. Again, overkill. And tiresome.

Thursday, Nov. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, Nov. 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Happy Thanksgiving

Currently 43 with an average wind from the NW of 1 mph. Feels like 43. Dew Point 41, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.98, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 5:12 pm.

70% chance of occasional rain with possible snow mixed in the afternoon. Morning high 45 falling to near 35 as the day progresses. NNW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy coming partly cloudy overnight. Low around 25. NW 10-20 mph.

My how the weather can change overnight. Now the possibility of snow showers has moved into the picture from Saturday night through to Monday. Might even see some of it later today. I guess it’s time. At any rate, no matter what the weather, have a grand and Happy Thanksgiving. Be grateful. Be thankful.
