An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm For A Few Days Before Temp Dips

Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm For A Few Days Before Temp Dips

Currently 35 with an average wind from the E of 9 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 88%, Barometer 30.47, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Partly cloudy becoming overcast.  High 46. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of overnight. Low 41. Se winds 10-15 mph.

Our temperatures will remain comfortable for the next few days until they take a dip – and stay down. Enjoy what we have because we won’t have it long. Still not seeing a white Christmas in the forecast for the holiday and it’s fast approaching. Maybe some light snow flurries a couple of days early next week but nothing serious yet showing up. For those wishing for the traditional white Christmas maybe thinking positive and wishing will make it so. I guess we’ll see. Of course I’m not one wishing and hoping. A nice green Christmas is fine and dandy with me.

Monday, Dec 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Temperatures To Stay On Warm Side This Week

Monday, Dec 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Temperatures To Stay On Warm Side This Week

Currently 37 with an average wind from the SW of 2 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 80%, Barometer 30.14, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 40s. WSW winds 10-20 mph with higher gusts possible.

Mostly clear tonight. Low 29. Light and variable winds.

This coming week looks well above any chance for snow and although the temperatures look to be taking a dive by next weekend, no snow appears to be eminent. Except for one reporting station that is throwing caution to the wind and predicting snow showers on Christmas day. Personally, I think that’s stretching things more than a bit, but if it makes those who favor a white Christmas feel better, than so be it. I guess we’ll see how it goes, but from here it look unlikely for anything other than a green Christmas this time around.

Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Dodges Another Weather Bullet

Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Dodges Another Weather Bullet

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 89%, Barometer 30.06, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high around 44. SW winds 15-25 with higher gusts possible.

Some evening clouds will become a clear overnight sky. Low 36. SW winds 10-20 mph.

While some in this area did find themselves with power outages, most of us just had flickering lights but the power stayed on. The winds did kick up early in the morning but the day of fierce winds predicted never did materialize here.  Once again, our little donut hole of weather protection saved us from some brutal weather. This coming week look mild for mid December and the only precipitation forecast as of right now is some rain.

Down south, nothing seemed to save them from the brutality of the weather and the deaths and damage is heartrending. Prayers from everywhere for those having to endure what happened from this particular weather system. For some it will be a long journey back, for some, they’ll never get there. Tragic results from severe weather.

Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-High Wind Warning Today

Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021-SW Michigan-High Wind Warning Today

Currently 50 with an average wind from the WSW of 11 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 45, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.19, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:08 pm. Dew Point 45, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.29, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Blustery today with a 70% chance of rain/snow showers. High around 50 in the morning will fall to around 35 during the day. W winds 25-35 with gusts to 50-60 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low around 30. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

High wind warning is in effect until 7:00 this evening. Winds are gusts to the point where my electricity has already been blinking all morning. I strongly suspect power outages from this system.

My heart is broken for those down south where it sounds as if massive numbers of dead will come from the overnight tornadoes. This nightmarish, unusual December weather is doing tragic damage.

Friday, Dec. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Worried About Saturday Wind

Friday, Dec. 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Worried About Saturday Wind

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.98, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon rain showers.  High 41. E winds 10-15 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Rainfall could reach 1″.  Low 38. SE winds 10-20 mph.

High Wind Warning for Saturday 7:00am – 7:00pm. W winds 25-35 mph with gusts to 50-60 mph possible.

So, the first named winter storm of the season, Winter Storm Atticus, is interesting and so far it looks as if the brunt of it – once again – will miss us. All but the wind. We could get some snow but we almost for sure will be getting the wind as it races past. Not happy about it, but look for power outages to occur. If the wind kicks up as fierce as they predict it’s entirely possible that will happen.

Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Up Starts With Some Light Snow

Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Up Starts With Some Light Snow

Currently 29 with an average wind from the SW of 2 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 86%, Barometer 30.02, Visibility 7 mi, Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Partly cloudy to cloudy with a 60% chance of afternoon snow. High near 35. SE winds 10-20 mph.

Overcast tonight with a low around 30. SW winds 5-10 mph.

Heading back into 40 degree days for awhile. A most unusual winter so far and not just here. Record temperatures are showing up all across the nation. For winter fans, snow-lovers, this has not, so far, been a stellar season’s beginning. Could change. Likely will sooner or later. Later would suit me fine, but not for everyone.

Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021-SW Michigan-Some Snow Expected Today

Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021-SW Michigan-Some Snow Expected Today

Currently 24 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 17, Humidity 76%, Barometer 29.97, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

70% chance of snow today with a high in the lower 30s. S winds 5-10 becoming W with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy overnight. low 15-20 with light winds.

Should get an inch of snow today although the Weather Channel is saying 1-3…so I guess it’s another wait and see situation. For sure after tomorrow our temperatures are heading back into the 40 degree range, so whatever we get will be gone before too long.

Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Several Really Cold Nights

Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Several Really Cold Nights

Currently 17. Average wind WS  2 mph. Feels like 17 degrees. Dew Point 10, Humidity 73%, Barometer 30.28, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

40% chance of morning snow showers. High 25. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

Overcast with a  chance of some snow showers. Low 21. S winds 5-10 mph.

Last night was plain old cold and tonight will be much the same. This cold weather is going to level off in a few days and we’re going to be back in the rain rather than snow temperature range. For now, bundle up and think warm. Best we can do. Could get a little more snow overnight and it’s hard to tell whether it will amount to anything or not. The system will be there, but that doesn’t seem to matter much anymore. So far looks light if anything.

Monday, Dec. 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Wind, Snow Will Usher In Cold Temperatures

Monday, Dec. 6, 2021-SW Michigan-Wind, Snow Will Usher In Cold Temperatures

Currently 32 with an average wind from the WNW of 6 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 73%, Barometer 29.68, Visibility 2.6 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7:00am – 10:00pm. Winds gusting to 50 mph, snow 1-3″.

Windy today with a 90% chance of snow. High 34. WNW winds 20-30 with gusts to 40-50 mph.

40% chance of overnight snow. Low 16. WNW 10-20 mph.

Expect a really lousy day today and our night time temperature to plummet tonight. Anyone driving home from work later today or this evening will not find the same conditions in place as they found this morning. Not so much snow, but the wind promises to be fierce causing blowing snow to reduce visibility at times. This entire coming week sounds wintry and not a lot of fun, so just be careful and take precautions to stay warm.

Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly And Getting Windy

Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly And Getting Windy

Currently 32 with an average wind from the ESE of 14 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 22, Humidity 67%, Barometer 30.06, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

100% chance of scattered morning snow showers will give way to a rain/snow mix in the afternoon. Areas of freezing rain possible. Temperatures steady in the mid to lower 30s. ESE winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of light rain in the evening. Low 31. SSE winds shifting to W 15-25 with gusts to 40 mph.

The wind today is chilly and it feels colder than it really is. However, the wind today is nothing compared to what’s coming…overnight and tomorrow will be downright blustery with gusts to 40 + mph. Toss in the chance for some snow showers and tomorrow sounds like a not so nice day coming at us. We seem to be – once again – on the very edge of this system with plenty of snow expected north of us. For us, we could go either way, but for now it looks like a messy winter mix of rain/snow/freezing rain…in other words, the worst of it. And it is going to be getting colder. Don’t care what the official calendar says, winter is upon us.
