An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Cloudy with a low around 10. NE winds 10-15 mph.

So – Winter Storm Izzy (isn’t that the coolest name yet?) is setting a solid path in a scoop to the south of us, missing us entirely. Good going, Izzy. Our temperatures are going to remain cold, but the snowfall will miss us and I, for one, am not the least bit unhappy about that.

Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022-SW Michigan-No Big Weather In Sight

Currently 30 with an average wind from the W of 5 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 28, Humidity 92%, Barometer 30.00 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:29 pm.

Nothing much in view as far as anything severe coming at us. Not for now, anyway. Our temperatures will continue to go up and down…not too far up and more down than is comfortable, but that’s just usual wintry stuff. Merely regular Michigan January winter weather.

Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022-SW Michigan-Slight Warming Today

Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022-SW Michigan-Slight Warming Today

Currently 11 with an average wind from the SE of 11 mph. Feels like -3. Dew Point 5, Humidity 75%, Barometer 30.52 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:27 pm.

Cloudy to partly cloudy. High around 25. S winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy and windy this evening. Clouds to diminishing winds later. Low 23. WSW winds 20-30 mph with higher gusts possible.

The sturdy winds moving through tonight, rather than issuing in colder weather, will be bringing along much warmer numbers than we’ve been experiencing. No complaints about that from most of us. It’s been brutal cold the past few days. And it’s not that it isn’t going to be cold, but it isn’t going to be bone chilling cold. Big difference. Huge. So just be happy about our slight warm-up. I know I sure am.

Monday, Jan. 10, 2022-SW Michigan-Downright Cold Out There

Monday, Jan. 10, 2022-SW Michigan-Downright Cold Out There

Currently 11 with an average wind from the W of 15 mph. Feels like -5. Dew Point 4, Humidity 71%, Barometer 30.42 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8;13 am, Sunset 5:26 pm.

Cloudy with a few snow flurries possible today. High 13. W winds 10-15 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Low -2. WSW winds 5- 10 mph.

Hang in there. Not going to warm up much today and certainly not tonight, but tomorrow the numbers start to climb a bit. Not to balmy by any means, but much better than today and tonight. I don’t see another blast of arctic air aimed at us any time real soon. Not that it won’t happen again this winter, but for the next week or so we seem to be safe. Just be careful out there in temperatures like we have today. Doesn’t take to long to get into real trouble if you aren’t.

Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Temperatures To Fall Today

Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Temperatures To Fall Today

Currently 30 with an average wind from the W of 17 mph. Feels like 17 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 81%, Barometer 30.11 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8;13 am, Sunset 5:25 pm.

Cloudy tonight with a few snow flurries possible. Low near 10. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

The temperature we’re waking up to this morning is as good as it ‘s going to get. The temperature is going to fall all day long ending in a pretty chilly night. Tomorrow will be plain old cold and tomorrow night even more so. Tuesday is going to be brutal, too, but after that the numbers will climb a bit. Just need to bundle up and get through this frigid blast.

Saturday, Jam 8, 2002-SW Michigan-Some Sunshine Today, Maybe Ice Tonight

Saturday, Jam 8, 2002-SW Michigan-Some Sunshine Today, Maybe Ice Tonight

Currently 16 with an average wind from the SE of 13 mph. Feels like 2 degrees. Dew Point 8, Humidity 68%, Barometer 30.34 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:24 pm.

Weather Alert. Saturday 6 pm-Sun 4pm. Freezing drizzle. Total 1″ ice possible.

Mostly sunny with a mix of sun and clouds later. High near 28. S winds 10-20 mph.

60% chance of overnight freezing drizzle. Low mid 20s. S winds 10-15 mph becoming W.

Roads could get ugly and dangerous tonight and early tomorrow morning. As bad as being dumped on by snow is, freezing drizzle – ice – is much worse. Bitter cold is scheduled to set in late Sunday and through Monday. Will all of this miserable winter weather, just be careful, be cautious and stay safe and as warm as possible.

Friday, Jan. 7, 2022-SW Michigan-Sunshine But Bitter Cold

Friday, Jan. 7, 2022-SW Michigan-Sunshine But Bitter Cold

Currently 2 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 2 degrees. Dew Point 2, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.24 & rising, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:23 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high of 22 degrees. W winds 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 9 degrees. SSE winds 10-15 mph.

Good thing there’s some sunshine out there this morning. We have at least the illusion of warmth. And that’s all we have because it’s just plain brutal cold. And as chilly as this is, it sounds as if next Monday is going to be even more so. So prepare to be bundled up to the teeth if you must be outside. Hopefully no more heavy snowfall in our immediate picture. I measured almost 9″ from this past one. That’s a lot of snow.

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Warning Downgraded To Advisory Now

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Warning Downgraded To Advisory Now

Currently 23 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 14 degrees. Dew Point 18, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.97, Visibility 1.8 miles, Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:22 pm.

Winter Weather Warning has been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory until 7pm tonight.

70% chance of snow showers should become more scattered as the day progresses. High in the lower 20s.  NNW winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a 40% chance of snow showers. Low 5-10 above. NW winds 5- 10 mph.

I measured 8″ of snow from this current storm. A bit more to come but the majority of it is already with us. We will be getting a bit more of course. I hope not too much. Even though this isn’t a heavy snow, my back is already reminding me that shoveling the small skating rink size space for feeding the birds and critters probably isn’t my best sport. Alas…

And the cold temperatures are with us. Next Monday sounds brutal, so the secret to survival appears to be keeping warm. Do your best.

Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Warning In Effect

Currently 30 with an average wind from the SW of 20 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 93%, Barometer 29.46, Visibility 0.91 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:21 pm.

Winter Storm Warning In Effect Until Thursday 7:00 am. 4-10″ of snow possible. Gusty wind to 45 mph.

90% chance of snow with gusty winds at times. High 31. WSW winds 20-30 mph with higher gusts likely.

Cloudy overnight with snow showers mainly in the evening. Low 18. W winds 15-25 mph.

The snow started in light this morning but I see it’s picking up now. Hard to tell how much snow we will get in my little backyard area. The weather maps appear to have this storm hitting the hardest along the Michigan Lake shore. The highest wind gusts along that line, too. However, the rest of us won’t be let off the hook. A little less snow, a little less wind, but we’ll probably get plenty of both for sure. Driving will become ugly as this progresses, so if you can stay off the roads, more the better. If not, be cautious. Stay safe.
