An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

It’s pretty cold out there this morning with light snow. Sounds like some brutal cold days/nights coming up because that Arctic blast doesn’t seem to want to go away any time soon. Eventually, but for now keep the hats and gloves handy as well as the snow shovel.

Sunday, Jan. 23, 2002-SW Michigan-After Today Expect Arctic Blast And Snow

Currently 15 with an average wind from the SW of 2 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew Point 11, Humidity 96%, Barometer 29.89, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:42 pm.

Enjoy the sunshine of today – and isn’t it beautiful? We have an arctic blast set to scoop down on us and we will be getting some snow. Some reports around an inch, others 2-4″. So, just expect to see some of the white stuff piling up tomorrow. Especially over by the lake shore. My little area may be just over the line of expecting bunches of flakes, but then again… We shall, of course, see how it goes.

Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-Starting The Day With Snow

Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-Starting The Day With Snow

Currently 20 with an average wind from the SW of 15 mph. Feels like 6 degrees. Dew Point 20, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.16 & falling, Visibility 1.1 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:41 pm.

90% chance of snow. 1-2″ possible. High 27. SW winds 15-25 mph becoming WSW in the afternoon with gusts to 35 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a 50% chance of overnight snow showers.. Low 12. WNW winds 10-15 mph with higher gusts possible.

It’s a light snow. No big snowflakes so far, but it’s already fairly constant so I suspect if it keeps up we may see a couple of inches by the end of the day. At least it’s a wee bit warmer than yesterday. There is that. Sounds like snow will be hanging around for a few days. Well…since this is January in Michigan, probably hanging around for a lot longer than most of us would like,  still…been fairly lucky so far with nothing drastic like so many other places around the country.

Friday, Jan. 21, 2022-SW Michigan-Cold Sunny Morning

Friday, Jan. 21, 2022-SW Michigan-Cold Sunny Morning

Currently 12 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 4 degrees. Dew Point 9, Humidity 72%, Barometer 30.54, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:40 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the lower 20s. S winds 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low 10-15. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph.

Enjoy today’s sun because tomorrow is bringing snow back into our picture. Again, not much warmth with the sunshine today but this is the best we can do in a Michigan January. Just happy to see blue skies and sunshine. Personally, I won’t be all that thrilled to see clouds and snow tomorrow, but that’s what we’re going to get. I have very little to say about what weather we get. If I did, it would be a constant 78 degrees with mostly sunshine and a light breeze blowing. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Well, if you’re not a winter enthusiast it might. For me? Definitely. In the meantime cold with sunshine today and snow tomorrow. That’s it.

Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Some Sunshine Peeking Through

Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Some Sunshine Peeking Through

Currently 17 with an average wind from the NW of 6 mph. Feels like 7 degrees. Dew Point 8, Humidity 69%. Barometer 30.55 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:38 pm.

Partly cloudy with a slight chance of some snow flurries. High around 20. NNW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Partly cloudy to clear overnight skies. Low 1 degree. Light and variable winds.

It’s wonderful seeing some sunshine this morning. Not warming at all, but giving the illusion. No warming, in fact, in our immediate picture but hey…it’s heading towards the end of January and that just leaves us one miserable winter month left, so that’s encouraging. Looks like some snow moving in over the weekend and as of right now, it seems Monday could bring us the most of it. Hard to tell, as usual. Just be ready for some white stuff that will need to be moved around for 3 or 4 days in a row. Hopefully, it won’t be a back breaking amount, but do have that shovel on hand, anyway.

Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Snow Flurries

Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Snow Flurries

Currently 29 with an average wind from the W of 8 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 21, Humidity 73%, Barometer 29.93 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:37 pm.

Overcast with the chance of some snow showers or flurries. No accumulation expected. High 31. WNW winds 15-25 mph.

Cloudy to partly cloudy overnight with a 40% chance of snow showers in the evening. Low around 10. NNW 10-15 mph.

A couple of days before the temperature tumbles again. Sounds like some serious snow over on the shoreline but the lake effect snow shouldn’t get over as far as to my little backyard. It’s amazing what a few miles distance will do. We are expecting some snow over the weekend, but so far, no predictions on much accumulation. Just typical January winter weather for Michigan.

Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Hopefully Not Like Yesterday

Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Hopefully Not Like Yesterday

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 88%, Barometer 30.00 & rising, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:36 pm.

Cloudy today with a 30% chance of some snow flurries. High mid 30s. S winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight snow flurries. Low 26. SW winds 15-25 mph with gusts to 35.

Yesterday turned out quite different from the forecast. A fine snow mixing with a freezing drizzle did a fair job of icing up roads and sidewalks early yesterday. Not what we were looking for and certainly not what we needed. Hopefully today won’t give us any reruns. A couple of decent temperatures will stick with us and then it gets cold again. The usual up and down of winter temperatures.

Monday, Jan. 17,2022-SW Michigan-Chance Of Snow Most Days This Week

Monday, Jan. 17,2022-SW Michigan-Chance Of Snow Most Days This Week

Currently 25 with an average wind from the NW of 3 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 22, Humidity 89%, Barometer 29.71 & rising, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8;10 am, Sunset 5:35 pm.

Cloudy with a slight chance of snow snow showers. High around 30. NW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Overcast with a chance of some overnight snow showers. Low 22. W winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Lots of differences in the weather reporting stations. Some have a chance for snow every day except for perhaps today and Friday. Others, not so much. So I guess it’s going to be one of those wait and see weeks. At least the temperature for today isn’t hideous. Not time to break out the picnic supplies, but at least not down there close to the zero mark. And cold temperatures are again set to dive down our way – and much farther south – very soon. So enjoy today and bundle up for the rest. Well…I’d keep that bundle up going for today, too, but then anything less that about 72 leaves me cold :>)

Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022-SW Michigan-Sunny But Cold

Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022-SW Michigan-Sunny But Cold

Currently 12 with an average wind from the E of 4 mph. Feels like 5 degrees. Dew Point 4, Humidity 71%, Barometer 30.09 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:33 pm.

Partly cloudy morning will become a mostly cloudy afternoon. High 26. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy with a 20% chance of some snow showers. Low 16. Light and variable winds will becoming NW 5-10 mph.

So – it was a whopping 1 degree this morning when I stepped out to feed the critters. That’s a bit too nippy for me. Thankfully the sunshine has made it feel a tad warmer than it is today. We’re very fortunate not to be dealing with the winter storm that is hammering other parts of the country. We could end up with a bit of snow about mid-week, but for sure we’re going to be hanging on to the cold weather. A typical Michigan January winter week.

Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022-SW Michigan-We’re Only Dealing With The Cold

Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022-SW Michigan-We’re Only Dealing With The Cold

Currently 8 with an average wind from the ENE of 10 mph. Feels like -5 degrees. Dew Point 5, Humidity 85%, Barometer 30.53, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:32 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high of 19 degrees. ENE winds 10-15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 2 degrees. Light and variable winds.

Thankfully we aren’t dealing with the woes from Winter Storm Izzy – not the snow nor the ice. But we are having to handle the cold. It’s January in Michigan, so that’s to be expected. January and February are cold months here, no getting around it. It was a whole 8 degrees this morning when I went out to feed the critters and I expect it to be colder tomorrow morning for that chore. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if we dipped to zero or below. Just lucky that’s all we have to be subjected to for now.
