An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Saturday, March 5, 2022-SW Michigan-Calm Before The Windy Storm

Saturday, March 5, 2022-SW Michigan-Calm Before The Windy Storm

Currently 40 degrees with an average wind from the SE of 14 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 22, Humidity 47%, Barometer 30.05 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:11 am, Sunset 6:36 pm.

High Wind Watch in effect from Sunday 1 am – 12 pm. 20-30 mph with gusts to 50-60 mph possible.

A morning mix of sun and clouds will become a cloudy afternoon. High 58. SSE winds 10-20 mph.

Windy with a 90% chance of overnight rain. Thunderstorms are possible. Low 44. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Today looks calm and quiet but things are going to ramp up starting tonight. Look for higher wind speeds. A small chance of seeing some severe weather will be in place and tomorrow’s winds will not be fun. All of this is going to drag in some interesting weather for Monday.  This small uptick in our temperature will be met with a vengeance by the cold Arctic air coming down from Canada. The high wind shear and the instability of the air will be anything but calm and quiet after today.  Colder. Rain possible. Snow maybe. Some sort of mix with possible freezing rain in there, too. Not going to be a grand day and it could all swing one way or another. That high wind could move the snow to our north – or maybe not. Some reporting around 1″ of snow for us. One even dares to say 1-3″. Rather not even consider that one, so I won’t. Just be ready for some sort of variety that we won’t be all that happy with.

Friday, March 4-SW Michigan-Warmer Than Yesterday

Friday, March 4-SW Michigan-Warmer Than Yesterday

Currently 25 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 17, Humidity 72%, Barometer 30.51 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:13 am, Sunset 6:35 pm.

Partly cloudy this morning will become overcast in the afternoon. High 41. Light and variable winds.

Overcast overnight. Low 31. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

Look for it to get windy as there will be a strong wind shear on Sunday. This will be bringing us in some snow for Monday. Might end up with a couple of inches. Not wanted, or needed – it would be much more helpful to get a good rain – but that’s the possibility so just watch for it. Don’t be too hasty putting away that snow shovel just yet.
Thursday, March 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Sun And Clouds Mix Today

Thursday, March 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Sun And Clouds Mix Today

Currently 29 with an average wind from the N of 4 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew Point 12, Humidity 67%, Barometer 30.44 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:14 am, Sunset 6:34 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds for us today with a high of 33 degrees. NW winds 5-10 mph.

Some overnight clouds. Low 18. Light and variable winds.

Nothing special going on weather-wise today. Not too warm but could be worse. Doesn’t look much like snow until about next Monday. No surprise. We can certainly expect some snow in March here in Michigan. Don’t want it, but hey…Mother Nature never, ever asks for our opinion. I’m thinking green leaves, Hummingbirds, flowers…Mother Nature is just sitting back laughing like mad. Yeah…that’s the way it goes.

Wednesday March 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance of Some Snow Flurries Today

Wednesday March 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance of Some Snow Flurries Today

Currently 29 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.11 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:16 am, Sunset 6:33 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of a snow shower. High 39. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight skies. Low 18. N winds 10-15 mph.

It’s March but we’ll still be getting chances for some snow. Not looking like much at a time, but showers and flurries now and then. After today, seems like about next Monday for the next opportunity. In the meantime since most of us consider March, April and May to be Spring months, Spring will keep on keeping on with more of it showing up all the time. I know I’m looking for signs. My favorite season and it most of the time seems so fleeting. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a good, solid Spring this year. We’ll see how it goes.

Tuesday, March 1, 2022-SW Michigan-March Coming In Nice And Friendly

Tuesday, March 1, 2022-SW Michigan-March Coming In Nice And Friendly

Currently 39 with an average wind from the NW of 8 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 31, Humidity 72%, Barometer 29.95 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:17 am, Sunset 6:31 pm.

Partly to mostly cloudy today. High 42. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

A few overnight clouds. Low 24. NNE 5-10 mph.

So-every year I say the same thing, “March could be nice.” And sometimes it is. Sometimes we end up paying for that niceness with a couple of crummy months following, but I don’t think so this time. I think March will be a dandy and I think we’ll have no payment due for that this year. Well, that’s my fond wish. I guess we’ll see. At any rate today, March 1, is starting out promising. And although I see cold nights yet ahead, the day time temps look, for the most part, getting more comfortable.

Monday, Feb. 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Clouds For The Most Part Today

Monday, Feb. 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Clouds For The Most Part Today

Currently 26 with an average wind from the SE of 10 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 17, Humidity 70%, Barometer 30.30 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:19 am, Sunset 6:30 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high near 40. SSE winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy to overcast tonight. Low 31. WSW winds 5-10 mph.

Except for some possible snow flurries showing up now and then – maybe Tuesday night, Wednesday morning – looks like a fairly decent week ahead.. Nights still darn cold but daytime temps showing signs of wanting to get with the spring thing idea. At any rate, nothing drastic or worrisome in the forecast for now. Just this transitional period that does seem to drag on, but at least it’s begun. Grateful for that.

Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Feeling Less Wintry Here

Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Feeling Less Wintry Here

Currently 30 with an average wind from the W of 12 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 23, Humidity 74%, Barometer 30.15 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 6:29 pm.

Cloudy to partly cloudy today with a high around 34. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

A few overnight clouds. Low 18. NE winds 5-10 mph.

Maybe it’s just me. No, probably is just me wishful thinking, but the air this morning feels different, less like winter and more like spring. At any rate, look for a handful of 40 degree days this coming week. And that has to be encouraging. It is for me. Nothing drastic or harsh ahead this week, not for now at least, and that’s  good. Some above average temperatures – no snow? Oh yeah…looking fine to me.

Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Little By Little Things Will Warm Up

Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Little By Little Things Will Warm Up

Currently 24 with an average wind from the W of 6 mph. Feels like 11. Dew Point 16, Humidity 70%, Barometer 30.45 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:22 am, Sunset 6:28 pm.

Morning clouds should mostly clear out in the afternoon. A few snow flurries still possible. High 29. WSW winds 15-25 mph.

A few overnight passing clouds. Low 27. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Gradually our temperatures will continue to inch up. Maybe not the overnight number just yet. They mostly look to be hovering below the freezing mark. But over all things will get better – and warmer. Could we have seen our last winter storm? I wouldn’t make any bets on that, but spring is right around the proverbial corner anyway. Enjoy the sunshine even if it still doesn’t have much of a capability of warming up the air. Everything looks better and warmer when the sun is out.

Friday, Feb. 25, 2022-SW Michigan-3″ Of Fluffy Stuff From Winter Storm Oaklee

Friday, Feb. 25, 2022-SW Michigan-3″ Of Fluffy Stuff From Winter Storm Oaklee

Currently 18 with an average wind from the N of 10 mph. Feels like 6 degrees. Dew Point 12, Humidity 77%, Barometer 30.37, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:24 am, Sunset 6:26 pm.

Some early breaks in the overcast sky mostly cloudy later. A few snow flurries possible. High 27. NW winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 15. WSW winds 5-10 mph.

We did get several inches of snow from this passing winter storm system. Thankfully it is of the light, fluffy variety making shoveling it out of the way much easier. Watch for a very slight – but none-the-less welcome – warm up. Even having the nights not get down to brutal cold will be refreshing. Soon it will be March and things are bound to be looking up weather-wise. In the meantime, Winter Storm Oaklee is busy traveling along to it’s demise once it spends time bothering the east coast. For us, it’s long gone.

Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022-SW Michigan-Watch For Snow Coming Tonight

Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022-SW Michigan-Watch For Snow Coming Tonight

Currently 14 with an average wind from the ENE of 10 mph. Feels like 1 degrees. Dew Point 9, Humidity 79%, Barometer 30.56, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 6:25 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today with a few flurries late in the afternoon possible. High 28. ENE wind 10-20 mph.

80% chance of overnight snow. 1-3″ possible. Low 16. NE winds 10-20 mph.

Winter Storm Oaklee is set to bring us some snow. Doesn’t look like a whole lot, but whatever we get we’ll be stuck with for awhile because it’s not going to be warming up much right away. Starting about Sunday or Monday a gradual warm up seems likely. And we are heading into March which is a very encouraging thing. Just keep the snow shovel handy for tomorrow morning.
