An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Tuesday, March 15, 2022-SW Michigan-I Don’t Like Dark Mornings

Tuesday, March 15, 2022-SW Michigan-I Don’t Like Dark Mornings

Currently 35 with an average wind from the E of 10 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 88%, Barometer 30.24, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 7:48 pm.

Cloudy morning will give way to sunshine in the afternoon. High 51. SE winds 5-10 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low of 32. Light and variable winds.

I don’t know. I’m about over hearing people gush over having an extra hour of daylight. No. No you don’t. What you’ve done is trade it from having it in the morning to having it in the evening. Frankly, I prefer my mornings to start bright and sunny and I hate this trade off. Oh well…In the meantime, a storm system will be bringing in days of rain and Mother Nature may try to sneak in some snow with it by Saturday, but hopefully will fail. Will be nice to have rain to wash away the reminders of winter and we surely don’t need any new reminders. Let’s hope for all rain. Sunday should be fine and free of either one. Maybe.

Monday, March 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Temperatures On The Rise

Monday, March 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Temperatures On The Rise

Currently 36 with an average wind from the SW 4 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 31, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.16, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 7:47 pm.

60% chance of rain showers this morning. Overcast afternoon. High around 51. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Overcast tonight with a slight chance of a rain shower. Low 33. ENE winds 5-10 mph.

A much better week than last. Temperatures for the most part will be in the 50s. Maybe a dip or a rise scattered in there but over all a comfortable week in comparison to what we’ve had to deal with. Now to start seeing the left over lumps of dirty snow scattered here and there vanish – hopefully not to be replaced this season – something to look forward to. I think we’re more than ready for a serious spring to settle in.

Sunday, March 13, 2022-SW Michigan-March Not A Stellar Month So Far

Sunday, March 13, 2022-SW Michigan-March Not A Stellar Month So Far

Currently 23 with an average wind from the SW of 13 mph. Feels like 11 degrees. Dew Point 20, Humidity 88%, Barometer 29.90 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 7:46 pm.

Off and on snow showers. Peeks of sunshine possible. High 41. WSW winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

Mostly clear becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Low 27. SW winds 10-15 mph.

A most wintry morning. Cold, windy, snow showers coming and going. Looks more like February than March. Most certainly feels like it. That wind is just plain cold. Frankly the snow and cold are getting old now and could quit any time. This cold has swept down the nation in most directions and is causing problems everywhere. It does look as if the Jet Stream is going to swing up higher this week, allowing more warmth to take the place of the cold for much of the nation. About time. Not that we won’t be seeing more snow flurries or showers along the way, but hopefully not much and not accompanied by such cold.

Saturday, March 12, 2022-SW Michigan-Darn Cold For March

Saturday, March 12, 2022-SW Michigan-Darn Cold For March

Currently 16 with an average wind from the NW of 15 mph. Feels like 1 degree. Dew Point 6, Humidity 66%, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Visibility 1.4 mi., Sunrise 6:59 am, Sunset 6:45 pm.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of snow showers. High 18. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy evening then 70% chance of snow showers. Low 15. SW winds 10-20 mph.

It was 12 freaking degrees this morning when I went out to feed the critters. That isn’t anywhere near where I’d like to see temperatures in the month of March. Got some snow showers this morning. Probably more today and sounds like more tomorrow morning. This is getting old. The rest of the week, once we get past this miserable weekend sounds much better but for now, it’s cold and wintry. Not at all spring-like.

Friday, March 11, 2022-SW Michigan-March Is Not Playing Nice

Friday, March 11, 2022-SW Michigan-March Is Not Playing Nice

Currently 21 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 15 degrees. Dew Point 16, Humidity 80%, Barometer 30.09 & falling, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:01 am, Sunset 6:44 pm.

60% chance of snow today. High 32. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly cloudy  with a chance of more snow flurries. Low 13. NW winds 10-20 mph.

If we can just get past this wintry weekend. Chance of snow seems to be hanging on through the weekend. Nothing drastic for us, merely irritating. It can’t be depressing because we know it’s so temporary now. In fact next week we might even see a 60 degree day. Things are definitely looking up. If the month of March wasn’t so unpredictable and contrary for the most part. Never mind. We shall prevail. Spring will settle in – eventually.

Thursday, March 10, 2022-SW Michigan-Might Get A Bit Of Snow Tonight/Tomorrow Morning

Thursday, March 10, 2022-SW Michigan-Might Get A Bit Of Snow Tonight/Tomorrow Morning

Currently 26 with an average wind from the NW of 7 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 16, Humidity 66%, Barometer 30.26 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:02 am, Sunset 6:42 pm.

More clouds than sun. High 31. WNW winds 5-10 mph.

Cloudy overnight skies with the chance of some snow showers. Low 19. NNW winds 5-10 mph.

Saturday is still looking like it’s going to be a cold one, but after that look for a nice warm up. And about time, isn’t it? Not a lot of snow coming tonight or tomorrow – I don’t think – but we will be getting some. A reminder that winter is still hovering around and about.  Bundle up for a few more days but by next week things appear to be changing for the better.

Wednesday, March 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Staying Cool For Now

Wednesday, March 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Staying Cool For Now

Currently 32 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 28, Humidity 86%, Barometer 29.98, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:04 am, Sunset 6:41 pm.

Mix of sun and clouds today with a high around 39. W winds 10-20 mph.

A few overnight clouds. Low 21. WNW winds 5-10 mph.

Don’t look for any warmup yet for a few days and we will be very likely getting some snow showers Thursday night maybe Friday morning. But after that things are looking up. Not way, way up…but better than we’ve had. Probably most days next week will be in the 50s. Might even see a 60 degree popping up. Getting better and better.

Tuesday, March 8, 2022-SW Michigan-Temperatures Staying Low For Awhile Yet

Tuesday, March 8, 2022-SW Michigan-Temperatures Staying Low For Awhile Yet

Currently 32 with an average wind from the SW of 8 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 60%, Barometer 30.22 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:06 am, Sunset 6:40 pm.

Partly cloudy. High 38. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Partly cloudy. Low 26. SSW winds 5-10 mph.

Look for temperatures to stay about where they are for a few more days, but by next weekend they’ll start to rise and we’ll see a lot of 50 degrees next week. In the meantime maybe some snow Thursday night, Friday morning. Nothing major, just a reminder that winter doesn’t care to participate with the arrival of spring on any grand scale as yet. No problem. We know spring is going to win this one, eventually.

Monday, March 7, 2022-SW Michigan-The Snow Has Returned

Monday, March 7, 2022-SW Michigan-The Snow Has Returned

Currently 32 with an average wind from the NW of 5 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 32, Humidity 99%, Barometer 29.85 & rising, Visibility 0.5 mi., Sunrise 7:07 am, Sunset 6:39 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 3 pm today. 2-4″ possible.

100% chance of snow today. Temperatures steady in the mid 30s. NW winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low of 23. W winds 5-10 mph.

Spent some time this morning watching the black squirrels busy burying peanuts and I just wanted to tell them to stop. Eat the darn things. This snow isn’t going to last. They wouldn’t have listened. But the fact is, this snow isn’t going to last. Above freezing daytime temperatures for the next several days should take care of what’s on the sidewalk and roads in short order. We’ll probably get more before Spring moves in and makes itself at home. But none of it will last now. Easier to look at it and think it looks pretty knowing that. Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Sunday, March 6, 2022-SW Michigan-High Winds Prevail

Sunday, March 6, 2022-SW Michigan-High Winds Prevail

Currently 38 with an average wind from the W of 26 mph . Feels like 26 degrees. Due point 32, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.88 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:09 am, Sunset 6:38 pm.

High Wind Warning in effect until 1:00 today. Winds 25-35 mph with gusts as high as 40-50 mph.

Overcast and windy today. High near 40. W winds 25-35 with occasional gusts to 40.

Cloudy overnight with an 80% chance of snow. 1-3″ possible. Low 31. WNW winds shifting to NE 10-15 mph.

Might windy out there this morning. I heard the wind kick up a couple of separate times during the night. Mostly it sounded like a roaring wind racing by way up high, but now and then it managed to lower and sound ominous closer to home. For extended amounts of time. I like a good wind storm but not in the middle of the night and not so prolonged.

Expect some snow tonight and tomorrow. It is, after all, March in Michigan so we will be subjected to the occasional bust of snow for a bit yet. I know I’m not alone in wanted to be able to get outside and start tinkering  about in the yard. I’ve had enough of winter.
