An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022-SW Michigan-The Cold Is Back

Currently 19 with an average wind from the NW of 12 mph. Feels like 6 degrees. Dew Point 12, Humidity 73%, Barometer 30.39, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 7:27 am, Sunset 6:24 pm.

Breezy this morning with a 20% chance of some snow flurries. Mostly cloudy and colder today. High 26. WNW winds 10-20 with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy and cold overnight. Low 14 degrees. NE winds 5-10 mph.

After a couple of days with fairly comfortable (for Feb in Michigan) temperatures, the numbers took a tumble again back to cold again. Looks as if Winter Storm Oakley will be bringing us a bit of snow late Thursday and Thursday night. Right now it doesn’t look as if anything impressive, but a couple of inches anyway.

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-A Rainy Day, Maybe Some Thunder

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-A Rainy Day, Maybe Some Thunder

Currently 35 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph .Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 35, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.76, Visibility 2 mi., Sunrise 7:29 am, Sunset 6:22 pm

Foggy. 100% chance of rain. Some afternoon thunder possible. High around 47 degrees. SSE winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy with the chance of a few snow flurries or showers. Low near 21. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Should be interesting to have ourselves a rainy day – with thunder. Sure been a while. Be cautious though as today’s high temperatures and plenty of precipitation will leave us wide open for nothing but ice everywhere by tomorrow morning. All of this stuff is going to freeze overnight and Voila! icy roads and sidewalks.  (Just listening to some thunder right now. I love it.)  And  rain or not enjoy today’s high numbers as it all takes a tumble again right back into cold.

Just a taste of Spring rains is encouraging though, isn’t it?

Monday, Feb. 21, 2022-SW Michigan-Look For 40 Degrees Today

Monday, Feb. 21, 2022-SW Michigan-Look For 40 Degrees Today

Currently 34 with an average wind from the E of 16 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 84%, Barometer 30.14, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:30 am, Sunset 6:21 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high of about 41 degrees. E winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of occasional overnight rain. Low 33. E winds 10-20 mph.

There is yet another winter storm on the horizon. I think it’s Winter Storm Nancy. We could be looking at some snow Thursday/Friday from this one. Right now, it actually looks as if we’re on the lower side of this one – most unusual as our pattern as been to hover on the northern or upper level of a storm and we’ve missed most of the snow. No telling yet about this one. If it sags down farther by the end of the week, we could actually see some snow. In the meantime, look for the chance of some freezing rain mixing in a few of the overnights. It’s possible. It’s that time of year in Michigan where a cold rain is very likely apt to be mixed in with some freezing rain. Just watch for it and hopefully none of it will come about.

Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Wind Event

Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Wind Event

Currently 22 with an average wind from the SW of 13 mph. Feels like 9 degrees. Dew Point 10, Humidity 60%, Barometer 30.00 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 6:20 pm.

Wind Advisory from 10:00 this morning to 6:00 this evening. Wind 20-30 mph with gusts to around 50.

Mostly sunny today with a chance of some patchy blowing snow. High around 40. SW winds 15-25 with gusts to 50 mph.

Partly cloudy will becoming cloudy overnight. Low near 30. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25 becoming N 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Well, here we go again with this high winds. Seems to be our pattern this year. We miss out on the snow but we don’t miss any of the wind. Just batten down the hatches again – those that didn’t blow away the other night – and weather the storm. At least it’s during the daylight hours with some sunshine to make it more palatable. That alone should help.

Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022-SW Michigan-Brutal Cold Morning After Night Of High Winds

Saturday, Feb. 19, 2022-SW Michigan-Brutal Cold Morning After Night Of High Winds

Currently 12 with an average wind from the NW of 16 mph. Feels like -4 degrees. Dew Point 6, Humidity 74%, Barometer 30.28, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 6:18 pm.

Some early breaks in the clouds. Cloudy afternoon with a chance of snow showers. High 18. Wind chill readings as low as -14 until midday. WNW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 40 until about midday.

A few overnight clouds. Low 14. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

The wind howling through most of the night was unnerving. Frankly, I had a hard time sleeping, it make me nervous listening to it. Beastly cold this morning when I went out to feed the critters and I measured about 2 1/2 ” of snow from last night.  Personally I’ve had about enough of winter. Not that I have any say in the matter because we’re in for more of it.  Some chance of snow almost every day next week with temperatures for the most part hovering in the 20s daytime and teens overnight. February continues…

Friday, Feb. 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Gonna Get Windy

Friday, Feb. 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Gonna Get Windy

Currently 17 with an average wind from the W of 7 mph. Feels like 7 degrees. Dew Point 7, Humidity 66%, Barometer 30.21, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 6:17 pm.

Wind Advisory in effect until 10 am Saturday. SW winds will become 20-30 mph with gusts to 45.

Mostly to partly cloudy today. High 27. SSW winds 15-25 mph.

Windy with a 70% chance of overnight snow showers. 1″ of snow possible. Low 14. W winds 25-35 with higher gusts.

Isn’t it amazing that the simple act of the clouds parting enough to create a hole for some bright blue sky to show through is exciting? With our dreary black, gray and white color scheme of winter, anything of color is gratefully welcomed. Blue sky? Fantastic. I can hardly wait for the green of spring to take over.

In the meantime, take care of anything left out that might blow around where you don’t want it to be. Going to get windy later on and overnight. A bit of snow to help liven things up. Should be interesting.

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022-SW Michigan-Once Again The Storm Moves To Our South

Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022-SW Michigan-Once Again The Storm Moves To Our South

Currently 30 with an average wind from the N of 11 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 82%, Barometer 30.04, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:36 am, Sunset 6:16 pm.

Temperatures will continue to fall through out the day. 70% chance of some afternoon snow. Around 1″ of snow expected. High in the low 30s. N winds 10-15 mph with higher gusts possible.

70% chance of evening snow. Not much more than an inch expected. Overcast skies the rest of the night. Low near 10. N winds 10 mph.

Again a predicted storm has set a path to the south of us leaving us on the outer, northern edges. To our south some substantial snow totals might be accumulated. Not here however. Sooner or later I think we’ll going to run out of luck and one of these storms will cover our area. For this one, our roads and sidewalks will likely get icy as the day goes along and the temperatures fall. Then covering them with snow won’t make it any better. Much cooler temperatures than yesterday will be our for awhile again. Just be careful.

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022-SW Michigan-Mild With Rain Today, Colder With Snow Tomorrow

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022-SW Michigan-Mild With Rain Today, Colder With Snow Tomorrow

Currently 46 with an average wind from the SSW of 9 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 33, Humidity 60%, Barometer 29.85, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 6:14 pm.

90% chance of rain. High in the upper 40s. SW winds 15-25 with gusts to 45 mph.

Evening rain becomes a mix with snow. Snow accumulation 1″ or less. Low in the upper 20s. W winds 10-15 mph.

On the mild side today but be careful in the morning because roads, sidewalks, could be icy. This rain today is going to transition into much colder precipitation along the way tonight and become covered with snow tomorrow. How much snow? Once again, to me it looks as if we’re on the upper ridges of this storm system and to the south of us they will get a great deal more. For us? Maybe 2-4″, maybe less. And the temperatures will have dropped by tomorrow night back into the cruel side, quite cold. Enjoy today, wet as it will become, because we don’t get close to 50 degrees and rain all that much in February.

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022-SW Michigan-Look For Rain Wednesday, Snow Thursday

Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022-SW Michigan-Look For Rain Wednesday, Snow Thursday

Currently 20 with an average wind from the SE of 7 mph. Feels like 11 degrees. Dew Point 15, Humidity 80%, Barometer 30.55, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:39 am, Sunset 6:13 pm.

Overcast today with a high of 31. SE winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 25. SSE winds 10-20 mph. Higher wind gusts possible.

Nothing much going on today but tomorrow you might need an umbrella. Then on Thursday, you’re going to be needing your snow shovel. Fun, isn’t it?  Anyway, snow accumulation on Thursday is ranging from 1-3″ to 2-4″ so I’d say just be prepared for snow and that’s about it for now. I guess if you have errands to run and have a choice, today might be the better one.

Monday, Feb. 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Watch For Mid-Week Snow Storm

Monday, Feb. 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Watch For Mid-Week Snow Storm

Currently 14 with an average wind from the NW of 1 mph. Feels like 7 degrees. Dew Point 12, Humidity 91%, Barometer 30.22, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:43 am, Sunset 6:13 pm.

Cloudy with about a 40% chance of some snow showers. HIgh in the lower 20s. SW winds 5-10 mph becoming 10-15 mph in the afternoon.

Overcast with a 20% chance of overnight snow showers. Low around 5. W winds 10 mph.

Temperatures will rise tomorrow and by Wednesday should be hovering near 50 degrees. Don’t get complacent about that though because the very next day the temperature will not only drop but be watchful of a fairly good snow storm. Once again, we could be teetering along on the top of that system and might not get as much as those slightly to the south of us. Another wait and see situation. Just the way it is. We get warm with rain one day and colder with snow the next. Just be ready for it all.
