An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, April 4, 2022-SW Michigan-Just Another Snowy Morning-In April

Currently 35 with an average wind from the SE of 10 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.95 & falling, Humidity 99%, Visibility 0.1 mi., Sunrise 7:19 am, Sunset 8:12 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon today.

100% chance of rain turning into snow. High around 45. SE winds 10-15 mph.

Low overnight clouds with fog. Low 36. Light and variable winds.

Sitting here watching big snowflakes falling at a pretty good clip might be interesting in February, but in April it’s merely irritating, frustrating. Right now I don’t see the mention of snow in the forecast this coming week but plenty of rain for the next few days. That doesn’t mean it won’t suddenly appear-unwanted and unappreciated. It seems to have made a habit of doing that in March and so far in April. I guess at this point all we can do is wait it out.  We don’t really have any choice, do we?

Sunday, April 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Ridiculous April Weather

Sunday, April 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Ridiculous April Weather

Currently 34 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 7:20 am, Sunset 8:10 pm.

Generally cloudy all day today. High around 45. WNW winds 5-10 mph.

90% chance of a rain/snow mix late. Low 34. SSE winds 5-10 mph.

Not much to say about this weather beyond the fact that it’s rather pathetic. The word snow even manages to sneak into the forecast around next Friday. This simply is not spring. I’m not quite sure what it is, but definitely not spring.

Saturday, April 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Disappointing Spring Month So Far

Saturday, April 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Disappointing Spring Month So Far

Currently 32 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 30.10 & falling, Humidity 78%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:22 am, Sunset 8:09 pm.

Partly cloudy early becoming cloudy with a 90% chance of rain and snow in the afternoon. High 42. SSW winds 5-10 mph.

90% chance of overnight snow early will taper off and give way to just cloudy skies late. Low 32. Light and variable winds.

Hard to even imagine that this is now the month of April. Looks a lot like the disappointing month of March. Sad to say there is that miserable snow word popping up clear into the end of next week. Seriously. Snow showers are not exactly what we’d expect or hope for in April. I don’t think that’s the way the song goes. April snow showers brings May flowers? At this point, this spring is so just plain wrong that I’m not even going to be actively looking for May flowers. So far, this spring is offering nothing to endear itself to people who look forward to this season every year. Evidently it’s going to be one that comes and goes with nothing but the dregs of winter dragging along until summer finally manages to emerge. Color me unhappy.

April 1, 2022-SW Michigan-April Looks A Lot Like March

April 1, 2022-SW Michigan-April Looks A Lot Like March

Currently 32 with an average wind from the NW of 13 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 29.91, Humidity 76%, Visibility 1 mi., Sunrise 7:24 am, Sunset 8:08 pm.

40% chance of morning snow showers tapering off to cloudy afternoon skies. High around 40. NW winds 10-20 mph.

Some passing overnight clouds. Low around25. SW winds 5-10 mph.

Peering ahead there doesn’t seem to be any stunning Spring weather settling in. Looks an awful lot like the month we just left behind. This is not an April Fool’s joke, there are hints of rain mixed with snow several times in the weeks ahead. Very unfunny but true. No big hurry putting away warm clothes and bringing out the lighter stuff. Unless you’re fairly hearty you won’t be needing them for awhile.

Thursday, March 31, 2022-SW Michigan-Unfortunately March Weather Will Bleed Into April

Thursday, March 31, 2022-SW Michigan-Unfortunately March Weather Will Bleed Into April

Currently 36 with an average wind from the W of 18 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 29.23, Humidity 92%, Visibility 1 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 8:07 pm.

70% chance of intermittent snow showers. Temperatures holding steady in the mid to upper 30s. WNW winds 20-30 mph with gusts to 40.

Overcast overnight with a few snow showers possible. Low 28. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Unfortunately the calendar page flipping over from March to April tomorrow is not going to bring us any relief from the wintery holdover weather. It will continue with a miserable week ahead. Looking for no warm up in my little backyard area ’cause there won’t be one. Might as well use this time to tend to tedious indoor tasks that should eventually be done, but now can be done early. Why not? Putting in this lousy weather time for something one can feel good about seems to be the only way to get through this weather and make it into what will eventually turn nice. Or we hope so, anyway. We always have hope.

Wednesday, March 30, 2022-SW Michigan-Dodged Another Overnight Weather Bullet

Wednesday, March 30, 2022-SW Michigan-Dodged Another Overnight Weather Bullet

Currently 35 with an average wind from the E of 14 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 29.66 & falling, Humidity 91%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:27 am, Sunset 8:06 pm.

100% morning showers to become afternoon rain. Thunder possible. High 55. SSE winds 10-20 mph.

100% chance of overnight periods of rain. Low 43. SSE winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible

Well, once again my little backyard managed to dodge what had been predicted to be truly rotten wintry weather. No ice. No snow. Not overnight anyway. Nobody complaining about that. The rest of the week still doesn’t look appealing to anyone wishing for spring. Who knows, at this time, whether we’ll be seeing anymore snow. It’s certainly possible. Just hang on to the warm clothes and steady on. Sooner or later it’s going to change. Just don’t look for it this week.

Tuesday, March 29, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Weather Advisory For Tonight

Tuesday, March 29, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Weather Advisory For Tonight

Currently 23 with an average wind from the E of 7 mph. Feels like 14 degrees. Dew Point 14, Barometer 30.36, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:29 am, Sunset 8:05 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 8 pm today through 10 am Wednesday.  Mixed precipitation-ice pellets and freezing rain. Some snow. 1″ of snow possible. 1/10″ ice possible. Slippery roads and dangerous driving conditions.

Partly sunny, partly cloudy. High 44. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a 90% chance of wintry mix precipitation. Low 31. ESE winds 15-25 mph.

Seriously? The end of March and we’re getting a Winter Weather Advisory? Yup. We are that. If this system hits us I’d be real careful about heading out to work in the morning. We all know some of these things end up missing us entirely but if this one doesn’t it could be bad driving conditions by morning. In fact, any boss worth his salt would be watching the weather and perhaps advising his employees to delay coming in until the roads are less likely to cause accidents. Is your boss that smart? Not many are.

At any rate, be careful. And be aware that this entire week coming at us looks just plain miserable. Lots of 40 degree days. Can all be summed up by really lousy weather conditions for those of us longing for a real spring.

Monday, March 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Spring Fail Continues

Monday, March 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Spring Fail Continues

Currently 18 with an average wind from the NW of 9 mph. Feels like 7 freaking degrees. Dew Point 9, Humidity 67%, Barometer 30.28, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:31 am, Sunset 8:04 pm.

Sun and clouds mix today with a high of only around 33 degrees. NW winds 10-15 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy overnight. Low 18. NNE winds 5-10 mph.

This unpleasant chilly weather continues to plague the area. I know we’re not alone, but other areas of the nation suffering this non-spring-like weather is not a comfort. This entire week is one in the loss column as far as being happy with this year’s spring. Look for another chance for a wintry mix about mid-week – and I hate to snow on your parade, but looking ahead to next week I’m not seeing anything wonderful in the line up even then. It’s going to change. Eventually warmth and green growing things will come calling and we’ll be thrilled to invite them in. For now? Keep the warm clothes on hand and try to think positive. Things could be worse. We could be dealing with the tornadoes some places have had to face recently. Thankfully not. But a little balance somewhere in the middle might be nice.

Sunday, March 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Cold Last Sunday Of March

Sunday, March 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Cold Last Sunday Of March

Currently 22 with an average wind from the NW of 14 mph. Feels like 10 degrees. Dew Point 11, Humidity 61%. Barometer 30.09 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 8:02 pm.

50% chance of intermittent snow showers this morning. And windy. Maybe some peeks of the sun later today. High 26. NW winds 20-30 with higher gusts possible.

Some overnight clouds. Low 15. NW winds 10-20 mph.

No other way to describe it, it’s just plain cold out there this morning. Saw my first Robins of the season, out there shivering in the snow. I’m so sorry to put on such a welcome back for them. Shouldn’t be this way. But it is. This coming week won’t be any prize winner, either. Some ups and downs in the temperatures, but nothing too high or, hopefully, too low. All we can do is hang in here, brush the snow off the car and travel on toward a real spring. Or the month of April, which if it’s kinder than March has been, will bring us some semblance of the season anyway.

Saturday, March 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Hideous March Weather

Saturday, March 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Hideous March Weather

Currently 30 with an average wind from the NW of 16 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.72 & rising, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 8:01 pm

Cloudy becoming windy with a 90% chance of snow showers. Temperature holding steady around 30 degrees. NW winds 20-30 with higher gusts possible.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low of 19 degrees. NW winds 10-20 mph.

This is a miserable stretch of spring weather. Nothing pleasant about it. Sunday will be worse. All we can do is hunker down and think spring. I mean real spring, like in story books, right? No, seriously, spring will be here…at least in time to usher in summer. Hang in there.
