An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, April 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Much Cooler Again And Windy

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SW of 17 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.79 & rising, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:01 am, Sunset 8:23 pm.

Windy with a mix of sun and clouds today. High 48. WSW winds 25-35 mph with gusts to 40.

Partly cloudy overnight and windy. Low 36. WSW winds 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph possible.

A good 20 degrees cooler for today and enough wind to make it feel even chillier.  This wind is going to hang around with us for a few days, unfortunately. Our temperature is going to keep dropping though Saturday. Chin up because by the end of next week we should be back in a comfortable zone. That’s a ways down the road, but nothing can be done about it. Keep your jacket handy and wait it out. What a joyful Spring.  Yeah, right.

Wednesday, April 13, 2022-SW Michigan-One Day At A Time

Wednesday, April 13, 2022-SW Michigan-One Day At A Time

Currently 66 degrees with an average wind from the S of 12 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 59, Barometer 29.63 & falling, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 8:22 pm.

100% chance of thunderstorms – some heavy downpours likely especially in the afternoon hours. High 67 degrees. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

90% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low 37. SW winds 15-25 mph.

It was delightful this morning going out to feed the critters minus a jacket into comfortable temperatures. The wind hadn’t kicked up and it wasn’t raining – although the sky definitely looks like we’re heading into a rainy day. Why we’re only getting one decent temperature day at a time seems typical this year of a spring that has no intention of being spring. Tomorrow the temperature is already lower in the 50s and the entire next week will present us with only 40 degree days. Saturday probably only in the 30s. If you wanted to imagine a lousy spring season you couldn’t improve much on this one.  At any rate, I sure did enjoy this morning, even knowing that very likely storms are ahead of us today and tonight. Windows open, no jacket, even if it’s only temporary,  is better than not getting a break in the chilly weather at all.

Tuesday, April 12, 2002-SW Michigan-Cool Sunshine Morning

Tuesday, April 12, 2002-SW Michigan-Cool Sunshine Morning

Currently 44 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:05 am, Sunset 8:21 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the mid 60s. SE winds 10-20 mph.

60% chance of scattered overnight thunderstorms. Low near 55. SSE winds 10-20 mph.

I don’t know what’s going on this year but it’s not just our area experiencing a winter hold over. Off to the west there are blizzard warning out for Winter Storm Silas. Seriously. So I guess it’s not surprising that our coming week looks to be dwelling in the 40 degree range. Saturday we may see a high only in the 30s. There is absolutely nothing good to say about any of it. In the meantime, enjoy today’s sunshine and sort of warmth. This is going to usher in rain and t-storms and down plunges the temps again. I’m about ready to give up searching for spring this time around. I’m now waiting for summer…with fingers crossed that season decides to put in a proper appearance.

Monday, April 11, 2022-SW Michigan-A Decent Beginning To The Week

Monday, April 11, 2022-SW Michigan-A Decent Beginning To The Week

Currently 50 with an average wind from the SW of 12 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 41, Barometer 29.68, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:06 am, Sunset 8:20 pm.

Mostly sunny will give way to an overcast afternoon sky. High 57. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Evening clouds will become a mostly clear sky during the night. Low 33. WSW winds 5-10 mph.

Should be an interesting week. Starting out good and by Wednesday we might see a temperature as high as 70. But that is going to bring with it the chance for some severe weather. Watch for some heavy rain. This, of course, will drive our temperatures right back down to a low on Saturday, once again, in the 40 degree range. Alas…seems to be the plot of this spring’s story. Was pleasant waking around 3:00 this morning to the sound of thunder. Haven’t heard that for awhile. Seems like we may be hearing a great deal of it by Wednesday. We’ll see how it goes.

Sunday, April 10, 2022-SW Michigan-Some Sunshine At Last

Sunday, April 10, 2022-SW Michigan-Some Sunshine At Last

Currently 27 with an average wind from the E of 2 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:08 am, Sunset 8:19 pm.

Sunny this morning with some clouds putting in an appearance this afternoon. High 58, SSE winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a 70% chance of scattered thunderstorms after midnight. Low 47. SE winds 10-20 mph.

Should be a bit warmer today. Not as warm as it could be but certainly warmer than it’s been. We look to be in for 2 or 3 decent days and then a handful of 40 degree days creep back into our picture. Let’s just hope that’s the end of it. Never-the-less, today we’re graced with sunshine and that makes everything seem better.

Saturday, April 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Morning With Snow

Saturday, April 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Morning With Snow

Currently 32 with an average wind from the NW of 9 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 29, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 88%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:10 am, Sunset 8:17 pm.

Cloudy with a few snow flurries or showers possible. High 40. NW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy to partly cloudy with widespread frost likely. Low 26. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Okay, this is flat out crazy. Waking up on April 9 to see the ground covered with snow is insane. Not only that – and I hate like poison saying this – but some places are saying we could see some snow flurries on Easter. Yeah….clear into the 16/17 of April the misery could continue. This coming week will give us some decent days, but we’re going to see a lot of them only in the 40s, too. This is non-ending, isn’t it? Never seen winter drag on so long and spring be such a disappointment. But that’s what’s happening this year.

Friday, April 8, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Fog, Some Rain

Friday, April 8, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Fog, Some Rain

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels liked 35 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.57, Humidity 95%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:12 am, Sunset 8:16 pm.

90% chance of rain today. High 43. WSW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a few snow flurries or showers possible. Low 29. N W winds 10-20 mph.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this is the last mention of snow until sometime next winter. Wouldn’t that be refreshing? Going to be chilly tonight and tomorrow but then things start to warm up a bit. Our warmest day coming up appears to be about next Wednesday in the 60s but of course that will bring around rain and thunderstorms very likely. Oh well, sooner or later things will get brighter and warmer. Bound to happen eventually.

Thursday, April 7, 2022-SW Michigan-Not Really Spring Yet

Thursday, April 7, 2022-SW Michigan-Not Really Spring Yet

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SW of 7 mph. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 29.53, Humidity 79%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:13 am. Sunset 8:15 pm.

70% chance of occasional light rain today. High 44. SW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of occasional snow showers overnight. Low 36. SSW winds 10-15 mph.

Well, wish it was otherwise but do be looking for some snow showers tonight and tomorrow. Yeah, it just keeps on keeping on, doesn’t it? Let’s hope this is the last of it. Nothing green showing up yet, merely more snowflakes. One strange and unwelcome Spring so far.

Wednesday, April 6, 2022-SW Michigan-A Rainy Day-No Snow

Wednesday, April 6, 2022-SW Michigan-A Rainy Day-No Snow

Currently 48 with an average wind from the SE of 12 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 47, Barometer 29.50 & falling, Humidity 93%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 7:15 am, Sunset 8:14 pm.

100% chance of rain today. High 51 degrees. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a slight chance of more rain. Low 37. SW winds 10-15 mph.

We can’t seem to evade precipitation of some sort but at least today we’re dealing with only rain. That’s an improvement. Hate to say it but there is the hint of some snowflakes mixing in for Friday and Saturday is going to be another cold one, but the days following seem to all be heading in the right direction. Baby steps, I guess, this spring is about the best we can do. I see some folks getting all excited about some 70 degree days coming up, but I don’t see them. I see 60 degree days, but hopefully their vision is clearer than mine and their view turns out to be the better one. Because for sure, by now, we’re all ready and then some for 70 degree days. We shall see. At any rate, I am willing to see anything but more snow. We’re had our share and then some of that.

Tuesday, April 5, 2022-SW Michigan-We Keep Saying Wait ‘Till Next Week

Tuesday, April 5, 2022-SW Michigan-We Keep Saying Wait ‘Till Next Week

Currently 36 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.88 & rising, Humidity 94%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 7:17 am, Sunset 8:13 pm.

Mostly cloudy with areas of patchy fog. High around 55. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of rain developing late. Low 44. ESE winds 10-15 mph.

Nothing beautifully spring-like yet. But we’re ready. We’re waiting. This week is going to continue with rain and, not to leave us without our touch of winter weather, some snow possibly mixed in with the rain on Friday. Really. Let us be hopeful and declare that’s the end of the snow stuff, okay? Looks like some warmer temperatures mixed in there next week, so if we simply hang in here long enough, we should be rewarded with something we can eventually associate with spring. ….waiting…
