An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

No denying that yesterday was fantastic. 80 degrees, sunshine, a little breeze blowing. The stuff summer dreams are made of. It’s going to be awhile before we see that again. Temperatures are set to dip again probably into the 40s for Tuesday and then only rebound into the 50s for the rest of the week. What the heck is going on???

Saturday, April 23, 2022-SW Michigan-What A Splendid Day

Some overnight  clouds. Lo0w 63. S winds 10-15 mph.

What a glorious day! Sunshine, warmth, light winds. Can’t improve much on this one. Look for some rain moving in tonight and through tomorrow with a drop of almost 20 degrees. But hey…we’ll take it. Today is worth it. You might see the temperature drop back down into the 40s for a few days next week, but never fear. Doesn’t look like anything in the 30s and no snow showing up. This year, that’s about as good as  a coming week can promise us. Just enjoy the heck out of today.

Friday, April 22, 2022-SW Michigan Rain On The Way

Currently 46 with an average wind from the E of 12 mph. Feels like 40 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 30.51, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:48 am, Sunset 8:33 pm.

90% chance of overnight rain and thunderstorms. Low 46. ESE winds 10-20 mph.

Would be lovely to have a thunderstorm tonight. Nothing like lightning and thunder while you’re tucked cozy in bed. Or, at least, for me. So I’m anxious to see it develop. Tomorrow is going to be terrific. 80 degrees. I think we’re all pretty excited about that. Sunday won’t be as warm, but still not bad. Rainy though. I guess we’ll be paying for Saturday. Fair enough.

Thursday, April 21, 2022-SW Michigan-Warm Up For Weekend Beginning

Thursday, April 21, 2022-SW Michigan-Warm Up For Weekend Beginning

Currently 47 with an average wind from the W of 13 mph. Feels like 42. Dew Point 45, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:50 am, Sunset 8:51 pm.

Cloudy early with peeks of sunshine expected later. A slight chance of rain showers. High 58. W winds 15-25 mph.

Mostly clear skies. Low around 35. WNW winds shifting to NE at 10-20 mph.

So…we’re all getting eager to see an 80 degree day on Saturday. Pretty telling about how our so-called spring has gone, isn’t it? We’re all ready to throw a party because the temperature will be kind to us for a change. Sunday, maybe not quite so warm and with rain. The following week promises, as of now, to be a good 30 degrees cooler, but hey…if we’re lucky we won’t see anymore snow, right?

Wednesday, April 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Pretty But Chilly Morning

Wednesday, April 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Pretty But Chilly Morning

Currently 29 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 30.32 & rising, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:52 am, Sunset 8:30 pm.

Cloudy with a 100% chance of overnight rain. Low 47. S winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

Building to a warm weekend. A wet Sunday afternoon very likely but warm. We could actually nudge 80 on Saturday. It won’t stay that warm but a Saturday and Sunday with nice numbers sounds pretty darn good by now. We’ll take whatever comes our way as long as it isn’t snow anymore. And at least this weekend, it won’t be.

Tuesday, April 19, 2022-SW Michigan-Oh Joy, More Morning Snow Flurries

Tuesday, April 19, 2022-SW Michigan-Oh Joy, More Morning Snow Flurries

Currently 35 with an average wind from the NW of 13 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 86%, Visibility 2.6 mi., Sunrise 6:53 am, Sunset 8:29 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a few morning snow showers. High 41. NW Winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

A few passing overnight clouds. Low 26. WNW winds shifting to S 10-15 mph

So – walking out to feed the critters this morning and the air was once again full of tiny snowflakes. Didn’t last a long time, and certainly didn’t accumulate anything, but distressing none-the-less. It did clear up long enough to see some welcome blue skies, but the clouds closed up again quite rapidly.

According to the Weather Channel our area will be below average through May 2. Nice, huh? It’s going to warm up nicely for this coming weekend. A couple of 70 degree days. Might be cloudy and we may get rain, but it will be warm. Just don’t get used to it ’cause those numbers won’t stick around for awhile yet. Just unbelievable that so many places had temperatures lower for Easter than we had for Christmas. And if we have our druthers, we’d rather not see it happen again. That maverick Jet Stream needs to learn the lessons of where it should be rather than letting itself go rogue so often as it has this year. Let’s hope.

Monday, April 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Just Another Snowy April Day

Monday, April 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Just Another Snowy April Day

Currently 33 with an average wind from the E of 6 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 30.16 & falling, Humidity 77%, Visibility 1 mi., Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:28 pm.

90% chance of morning snow mixed with some rain later in the afternoon. High 39. NNE winds 5-10 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow mainly in the evening. Low 32. WNW winds 5-15 mph.

Some folks can say ‘Just another day in Paradise’. Those of us here in lower SW Michigan? We can say ‘Just another snowy day in April’. To say this is getting old would be a great understatement.  Opened the blinds this morning to see the air filled, once again, with little snow flakes. I wanted nothing more than to close them back up and go back to bed. Perhaps until summer…if we’re lucky enough to get one of those. ‘ Cause we sure as heck aren’t getting a spring this year. Again I will wishfully say let’s hope this is the last of the snow until next winter.

Sunday, April 17, 2022-SW Michigan-Mostly Sunny Easter Sunday

Sunday, April 17, 2022-SW Michigan-Mostly Sunny Easter Sunday

Currently 32 with an average wind from the SE of 10 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 30.38, Humidity 51%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:56 am, Sunset 8:27 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today with a high of 47. E winds 10-15 mph.

Partly cloudy early followed by a 50% chance of snow showers late. Low 31. E winds 5-10 mph.

Well, Easter Sunday could be a tad warmer – we’ve certainly had some in the past that were – but at least we’re getting some sunshine today. And the snow showers are going to hold off until tonight and tomorrow. That’s a blessing of sorts, I guess. On an even better note, we can look for some 70 degree days next weekend. Probably won’t stay up there but at least it doesn’t look as if it’s going to fall as low as we’ve had lately either. Some give. Some take. Let’s just hope this is going to be the last of the snow. I think we’ve taken about as much of that as we care for.

Saturday, April 16, 2022-SW Michigan-Not Going To Warm Up Much

Saturday, April 16, 2022-SW Michigan-Not Going To Warm Up Much

Currently 35 with an average wind from the W of 11 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 55%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 8:26 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high of 39. W winds 15-25 mph with higher gusts possible.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 23. NNW winds 10-20 mph.

Nothing much good to say about today’s weather beyond the fact that it isn’t snowing…but don’t give up on the idea of snowflakes just yet. Easter Sunday may bring us plenty of sunshine, but Easter Sunday night may jolly well bring us some snow. Charming, isn’t it? At this point all we can do is hope next year brings us a proper spring, ’cause this one is a lost cause.

Friday, April 15, 2022-SW Michigan-Chill Down Once Again

Friday, April 15, 2022-SW Michigan-Chill Down Once Again

Currently 39 degrees with an average wind from the WSW of 20 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 29.87 & rising, Humidity 44%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:00 am, Sunset 8:24 pm.

Mostly overcast and windy. High 44. WSW winds 20-30 mph with higher gusts likely.

Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy overnight. Low 27. W winds 10-20 decreasing to 5-10 mph.

No end to it, or so it seems. Tomorrow is going to be flat out cold and it’s not going to warm up until about the middle of next week. And, as much as I hate to say this, look for some snowflakes on Monday. This seems unreal, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, it’s all too real.  Wishing this was a good spring doesn’t seem to be working. Waiting it out appears our only option.
