Thursday, Nov 23, 2017 South West Michigan – Thanksgiving Day

Currently 33 with a SSE wind of 4.4 mph dragging that down to feeling like 29. Dew Point 26, Humidity 74%, Barometer 29.90, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:43, Sunset 5:12 pm. Mostly cloudy becoming mostly sunny. High lower 40s. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly clear with a low around 30. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Gorgeous Thanksgiving Day weather. We’ve had some not even close to being this good. This time around we have comfortable temperatures and no precipitation. Can’t ask for more or better.

So, on this day designed for giving thanks – and eating – in addition to all the goodies most of us are going to be consuming today – way too many for our waistlines, at least in my case – I hope we all take the time to pause and give thanks for all of our many blessings.  I know I will be. God has blessed me beyond what I deserve or what I’ve earned. Money? No…not hardly. But pretty good health, a solid roof over my heat, food on the table, the love of family, the ability to enjoy every single day that comes my way, the good sense to know where all of it comes from. Oh yes. Thankful I am. I hope you are, too. There is always something, no matter how hard things get or how dark things seem, to find and be grateful for. If it turns out to be a day where you have to look for it – then look for it. It will make you feel better and make God happy to see that you noticed.

Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 South West Michigan – Cold, But No Precip

Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 South West Michigan – Cold, But No Precip

Currently 29 with a W winds of 4.6 mph dipping that down to feeling like 23. Dew Point 18, Humidity 63%, Barometer 30.28, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:43 am, Sunset 5:12 pm. Mostly cloudy today with a high in the mid 30s. NW winds 5 – 10 mph becoming W.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a low in the upper 20s. SW winds 5 – 15 mph.

Nights are definitely getting colder. Dipping down into the 20s now.  My little corner of the world seems to be holding on to some luck. It sounds as if, as least for the next coming week, we’re going to be staying mostly dry – no snow – and with decent temperatures. Could be much different, so I’m happy with what’s going on.

I’m seeing little birds plumping up like little blimps now in preparation for winter. Tiny little balls of feathers with unquenchable appetites. I’m doing my part, putting out bird food in abundance. Hope it helps.

Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 South West Michigan – Rain Maybe Some Snow Showers

Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 South West Michigan – Rain Maybe Some Snow Showers

Currently 39 with a SW wind of 3.5 making no difference so it feels like 39. Dew Point 39, Humidity 98%, Barometer 29.76, Visibility 3 mi, Sunrise 7:42 am, Sunset 5:13 pm. 40% chance of rain showers, possibly mixed with some snow showers in the afternoon. High mid 40s. SW winds 15-10 becoming NW with gusts to 30.

Mostly cloudy becoming partly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low in the upper 20s. NW winds 15 – 20 with gusts to 25.

Very light intermittent showers out there this morning. Not amounting to anything so far, which is fine. It’s breezy. Just went to the store and you could feel the power of the wind against the car while on the road.

So far still looking like decent holiday weather for this area. No complaints.

Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 South West Michigan -Not Bad Holiday Week Weather Ahead

Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 South West Michigan -Not Bad Holiday Week Weather Ahead

Currently 31 with a S wind of 5.7 mph dropping it a degree so it feels like 30. Dew Point 28, Barometer 29.93, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:40am, Sunset 5:14 pm. Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 40s. SW winds 10 -20 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the upper 30s. SW winds 15 – 20.

Hard to imagine but there was a time when families simply climbed into their cars and took off for holidays, virtually unaware of what the weather was they were heading in to. With today’s technology, they are already predicting, with what is probably pretty good accuracy, what the travel weather will be for the coming holiday. Amazing what a difference.

Lucky, in our area it seems as if the weather is going to be fairly decent. No major rain or snow on the way for us…so far. Many years in the past were much worse, so this is going to be all good. Hopefully the rest of the nation will fare as well.

Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Snow Showers

Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 South West Michigan – Light Snow Showers

Currently 30 with a WNW wind of 7.2 mph dropping that to feeling like 27. Dew Point 26, Humidity 83%, Barometer 29.51, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:39 am, Sunset 5:14 pm. 60% chance of snow showers today. High lower 30s. NW winds 10 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the upper 20s. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Woke to see my car covered with tiny snow pellets, which have since blown away with the gusting wind. It’s certainly chilly outside and I’m glad I got the heated bird bath going, the critters out there need it.

Our daytime temperatures for the coming week appear to be slightly above freezing during the daylight hours but not so during the night. We’re lucky. There have been years where we would have had measurable snow by now, so I’m content with what we’re getting. Had .41″ of rain in the gauge this morning, with only a small portion of that coming from snow showers. So far, so good.

Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 South West Michigan – So Far Temperatures Good

Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 South West Michigan – So Far Temperatures Good

Currently 41 with a NE wind of 2 mph ignoring that, so it feels like 42. Dew Point 41, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.48, Visibility 5 mi, Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 5:15 pm. 100% chance of rain showers. High in the lower 40s. N winds around 10 mph increasing to 15 with gusts to 25.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain/snow showers. Low lower 30s. NW winds 15 -20 with gusts to 30.

Had .62″ of rain overnight in the gauge and it’s sort of soggy air out there right now. Not really raining but full of moisture, anyway. Hoping that all of the precipitation coming our way will stay rain and not include snow. At least with the temperatures staying in the above freezing range for the most part, any that comes won’t be hanging around. And that’s nothing but good.

Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 South West Michigan – Hoping Lake Effect Snow Stays North

Friday, Nov. 17, 2017 South West Michigan – Hoping Lake Effect Snow Stays North

Currently 35 with a SE wind of 6.4 mph dragging that down to feeling like 30. Dew Point 32, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.11, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:37 am, Sunset 5:16 pm. Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of afternoon rain. High mid 40s. S winds 10 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

100% chance of rain tonight with a low around 40. SW winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 30 decreasing to 20 overnight.

Watching the weather map, I see a good chance of lake effect snow moving in to the upper part of my state. Fingers crossed that it stays to the north. Lake effect snow can become much more than what’s forecast. It’s a tricky affair and the later it starts around here, the better. I’m thinking only rain for us over the weekend. Hope so, anyway.

Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 South West Michigan – Watching The Jet Stream

Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 South West Michigan – Watching The Jet Stream

Currently 36 with an average WNW wind of 3.5 mph dragging that down to feeling like 32. Dew Point 32, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.09, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 5:17 pm. Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain/snow showers until midday. High around 40. NW winds 10 – 20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy early becoming mostly cloudy with an overnight low in the upper 30s. Some patchy fog possible. Light winds.

Leonid Meteor Showers can be seen tonight – well, not here because we will have clouds pretty much blocking our view, but still…for those who can.

Watching the Jet Stream looking fairly goofy right now, trying to figure out approximately what the weather might be closer to Thanksgiving is a hoot. Curves and swirls galore up there. I wouldn’t bother to bet anything on what it’s going to be doing a week from now. Should be fun to watch it either straighten out and fly right or curl itself into a spiral. Always interesting watching something we have absolutely no control over, nor can we wish it to act one way or another.

Wed., Nov. 15, 2017 South West Michigan – We Have A Rainy Day

Wed., Nov. 15, 2017 South West Michigan – We Have A Rainy Day

Currently 40 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph making no difference to that number, so it feels like 40. Dew Point 40, Humidity 100%, Barometer 29.9, Visibility 2 mi, Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 5:18 pm. 100% chance of rain today. High upper 40s. SW winds 5 – 10 with gusts to 25.

80% chance of rain showers, possibly mixed with snow, then becoming snow showers. Snow accumulation less than 1″. Low in the lower 30s. W winds 15 – 20 with gusts to around 30.

A rainy day for us, but it does like some of that could become snow overnight. Tomorrow looks to be a fairly decent day, so whatever snow we get will be gone then. Happy me. The less I see of the miserable stuff the better. Today, just need to grab a handle umbrella and off I go.

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017 South West Michigan – Watching A Busy Weather Map

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017 South West Michigan – Watching A Busy Weather Map

Currently 38 with an average wind from the SSW of 5.9 dropping that down so that it feels like 33. Dew Point 37, Humidity 93%, Barometer 30.34, Visibility 6 mi, Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 5:15 pm. Early patchy fog. Partly sunny becoming mostly sunny with a high in the upper 40s. S winds 5 -20 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain. Low in the upper 3j0s. S winds 10 – 15 mph.

While my little corner of the world is relatively calm and quiet for the moment, and I’m able to do little but watch the remaining leaves do their season wardrobe change, looking at the national weather map is mind-boggling. What a variety! Severe wind out to the west, snow to the north, rain in the east and sunshine to the south. Never a dull weather moment if you look at the big picture – which I do every morning.

It really IS amazing out there.
