Found .71″ of rain in the gauge this morning. All rain. Lovely. Nothing like laying in bed listening to thunder roll about. Made me – almost – think it’s spring. I know. I know. Not yet, but soon.  Going to get some snow mixed with it and  maybe the chance for some sort of frozen mix tomorrow, but for the most part, not a bad week coming at us.

I love a rainy day!

Had a busy day, but a fun one with an early b-day family celebration. Anyway, finally able to get to the computer for the rest of the day’s forecast – which is now the overnight forecast. Was a day in the mid to upper 30s, with a very slight drizzle showing up now and then. Not a horrible day weather-wise.

Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Warming And Wonderful Weekend

Friday, Jan. 19, 2018 South West Michigan – Warming And Wonderful Weekend

Currently 30 with a SW wind of 15 mph dropping that to feeling like 21 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 29.9, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:37 pm.  Mostly Sunny will become partly sunny in the afternoon. High lower 30s. SW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low around 30. SW winds 15 -20 mph.

Got warmer temperatures and rain coming in for Sunday and Monday. Tuesday will likely change back to snow, but hey…in the  meantime this is a great little break from our wintry scene. In fact, we should lose, hopefully, most of our snow except for the heaps and piles shoveled into mini mountains. Those will shrink, too, before more snow comes along to build them up again.

And, the best? The Jet Stream appears set to make a welcome change, too, and perhaps this relentless winter will start to even out and become something more bearable. We shall see, but for now, it’s looking promising.

Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 South West Michigan – A Blustery Day

Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 South West Michigan – A Blustery Day

Currently 25 with a SW wind of 18 mph dragging that down to feeling like 12 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 76%, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:36 pm. Mostly cloudy becoming partly sunny this afternoon. High around 30. SW winds 15 – 25 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy tonight. Low in the mid 20s. SW winds 10 – 15 with gusts to 25.

The wind was whipping around in pretty good form all night and it’s still kicking up today. Every time I hear the word blustery, I think of Winnie the Pooh. Always will, I guess. So, it’s going to be a blustery day, Piglet.  At any rate, it’s a tad warmer and we’re heading into a bit of a thaw about next Monday and Tuesday with some rain coming in. That sounds good except the nights will still be dropping down enough to make the roads miserable the next morning…and then by Wednesday, back to serious reality again. Oh well….it’s a Michigan winter.

Wednesday, Jan17, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Chilly Sunshine Today

Wednesday, Jan17, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Chilly Sunshine Today

Currently 19 with an average WSW wind of 11 mph making that feel like 7 degrees. Partly sunny today in the mid 20s. W winds 10 – 20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Blustery tonight. Low 22. SW winds 20 -15 mph.

It’s lovely to see some sunshine even though it’s mighty chilly out there. Something about the sun, it makes it feel so much better. Or it makes US feel so much better. Which ever way it works, it works. Granted, it’s a weak sunshine out there so far, but I feel like it’s going to grow stronger as the day wears on. Looking forward to that.

Was evidently a pretty large meteor smack down into Lake Michigan yesterday that was seen by plenty of people. I wasn’t one of them, but I’m fascinated by it anyway. So…somewhere embedded in the ice or more than likely down in the depths of the water, we have a nice chunk of space. It evidently lit up the sky quite nicely. Very cool.

Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold, Clouds, Flurries

Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold, Clouds, Flurries

So many little birds in those bushes I can’t count them all.

Currently 14 with a W wind of 5 mph dropping that to feel like 5 degrees. Dew Point 10, Barometer 30.5, Humidity 87%, Visibility 4 mi, Sunrise 8:10am, Sunset 5:33 pm. Cloudy with a 90% chance of snow flurries, high lower 20s, light winds.

Mostly cloudy tonight. Low 5 – 10. Light winds.

Nothing much happening here…thankfully not like the iced over mess down near Shreveport, LA this morning. Watching traffic crawl along at about 5 mph and still skidding all over place on what looks to be roads that have transformed into skating rinks.  So not good. Those are days you stay inside…off the roads. I doubt most of those people are getting paid enough to try to get to work and then have to pay for damages to their car for their attempt. Unless you are essential to safety – law enforcement, medical personnel, etc. why are you out there?

I don’t remember seeing so many Winter Warnings down south – one right after another – as I have this year. It’s bizarre. I reckon we won’t be the only ones overjoyed with the arrival of Spring this year.

Monday, January 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Another Winter Weather Advisory

Monday, January 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Another Winter Weather Advisory

Currently 16 with an E wind of 13 mph dragging that down to feeling like 2 degrees. Dew Point 3, Barometer 30.3, Humidity 90%, Visibility 874.9 yards, Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:32 pm. Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7pm. 100% chance of snow. High in the lower 20s. S winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 20.

90% chance of overnight snow. Low near 15. NE winds 5 mph.

Not much snow out of this system so far. Measured 1.5″  overnight snowfall. It’s been a steady snowfall since I got up but it’s a fine snow, doubt this will add up to much depth-wise. But, heard the roads this morning were a nightmare of ice with snow over it. Crashes all over the place. Not a good morning for commuting.

Can’t believe the winter – our kind of winter – continuing to stretch out to the south like it is. Unbelievable. The snow and cold  just keep coming this year.

Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 South West Michigan – A Peek At The Sun Before Snow Comes Back

Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018 South West Michigan – A Peek At The Sun Before Snow Comes Back

Currently 10 with a SSE wind of 6 mph making it feel like 6 degrees. Dew Point 5, Barometer 30.7, Humidity 67%, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:31 pm. Partly sunny with a 20% chance of snow showers at some point. High near 20. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

100% chance of overnight snow. Low 15. SE winds 5 – 15 mph.

We have to enjoy this day because tonight and tomorrow it’s back to snowfall. Oh well. I’m hearing from friends around the southland and it would appear they are sharing at least a bit of our sort of winter this year. And most of them aren’t all that thrilled. Hey – I understand that. I’m never thrilled with our winters here, so why on earth would somebody from where it’s supposed to be comfortable be happy with it? This is an odd and harsh winter – from top to bottom.

Just waiting for Spring.

Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold And Cloudy

Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Cold And Cloudy

Currently 14 with a NW wind of 9 mph dragging that down to feeling like 1 degree. Dew Point 5, Barometer 30.05, Humidity 65%, Visibility 10 mi,  Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:30 pm. Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of snow showers. High 15 -20. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 5 – 10. Light winds.

Not much going on today with the weather. Rather cold and blah would sum it up. Snow moving in again by Monday and the cold continues. Something like 66 days until Spring. That’s the only positive thing I can think of today. :>)
