Not a nice weather day out there for any Mother’s Day celebrations that might have been scheduled for outdoors – but at least it isn’t raining here today. Maybe tonight, probably tomorrow, but not today. Nothing a warm jacket can’t fix.

A happy Mother’s Day to all moms of people and pets…and we pet people know full-well that our pets are family, right? Have a grand day.

Saturday, May 12, 2018 South West Michigan – A Little Gloom, Little Rain, Maybe A Little Sun

Currently 42 with an ENE wind of 10 mph making that feel like 36 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 93%, Barometer 30.21, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 6:21 am, Sunset 8:55 pm. Cloudy with a slight chance of showers, maybe a peek of sunshine later on. High 62. ENE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy with a slight chance of overnight showers. Low 45. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

It’s cloudy, cool, and still quite damp from the overnight rain, but hopes are up for a peek or two at the sun later on this afternoon. We did get .68″ of rain since yesterday, which helps to green things up. And green, after the white, gray and yuck of winter, is a lovely thing!

Friday, May 11, 2018 South West Michigan – Rain Today/Tonight

Friday, May 11, 2018 South West Michigan – Rain Today/Tonight

Currently 41 with an E wind of 11 mph dragging that down to feeling like 34. Dew Point 29, Humidity 62%, Barometer 30.17, Visibility 2 mi, Sunrise 6:22am, Sunset 8:54pm. 100% chance of rain today. 1/2″ possible. High 46. E wind 10 – 15 mph.

90% chance of overnight rain. Low 42. NE winds 10 -20mph.

I love a nice rainy day and night…but not a cold rainy day and night and that’s what we have going for us. Not the most pleasant May weather and darn tired of not-pleasant weather. We’ve had our share. It’s time for sunshine,  warm little breezes, green things and flowers. No more cold anything.

Thursday, May 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Temperature Dipping Again

Thursday, May 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Temperature Dipping Again

Currently 56 with a WNW wind of 10 mph dropping that down to feeling like 53 degrees. Dew Point 54, Humidity 94%, Barometer 29.82 & rising, Visibility 7 mi, Sunrise 6:23 am, Sunset 8:53 pm. Cloudy with a slight chance of showers. High 65. NW winds 10 -20 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 38. NNE winds 10 – 15 mph.

We did get .33″ of rain in the gauge overnight along with some called Severe Storms. Not really all that much happened near me beyond the continuous rolling thunder and flashing lightening. Not overly windy or all that much rain. It is good, though, to have alerts come along to inform us of the possibility of severe storms so we can be prepared. I’m certainly old enough to remember a time when that wasn’t the case. Whatever came at you, came at you and you either recognized some of the signs that bad weather was coming or you were caught by surprise. Now, we can watch weather maps that show us the weather systems swirling around above the entire earth, we have knowledgeable people guiding us through oncoming weather systems. We’ve learned and are learning so much. We’re really lucky that way.

Wednesday, May 9, 2018 South West Michigan – T-Storms Approaching

Wednesday, May 9, 2018 South West Michigan – T-Storms Approaching

Currently 65 with a SSE wind of 11 mph ignoring that so it still feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 43, Humidity 45%, Barometer 29.90 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:24 am, Sunset 8:52 pm. Partly cloudy with an 80% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. High 76. S winds 15 – 25 mph.

100% chance of thunderstorms – a few storms could be severe – early then  cloudy after midnight. Low 54. WSW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Not a bad morning going on so far, but there are thunderstorms in our future by later today and overnight which will usher in much cooler temperatures again by Friday. Welcoming the rain and storms but not all that pleased about the cooler temperatures. Not much we can do about it beyond dressing warmer and again waiting it out until it warms up again, which it will.  This appears to be yet another example of our yo-yo Spring weather pattern.

Tuesday, May 8, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny And Pleasant Today

Tuesday, May 8, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny And Pleasant Today

Currently 61 with a SSW wind of 10 mph dropping that to feeling like 59 degrees. Dew Point 41, Humidity 48%, Barometer 30.16 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:26 am, Sunset 8:51 pm. Sunny with a high of 77. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy with a low of 54. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

What a glorious day. Maybe some rain coming in tomorrow afternoon but today is fabulous. Perfect temperature for being outside to do about anything. Nice dry air, wind not being unreasonable. What more could we ask for? In fact, this is the first morning I’ve sat outside in my tiny backyard with a cup of coffee to watch nature playing out in front of me. There is a new family of Black Squirrels with 3 little ones running around acting like silly kids…cautious kids though, not by choice but by guidance, because every time they seem to be heading into a bad direction I can hear a parent squirrel scolding them. Fun to watch.

Monday, May 7, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny But Still Rather Cool

Monday, May 7, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny But Still Rather Cool

Currently 60 with a NNE wind of 4 mph making no difference, so it feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 38, Humidity 45%, Barometer 30.23 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:27 am, Sunset 8:50 pm. Sunny with a high of 69. Light and variable winds.

Clear to partly cloudy tonight with a low of 50. Light and variable winds.

We’re in a nice sunny patch here for the next couple of days with the temperature set to rise a bit as we go along.

Watching the lava eruptions in Hawaii and shaking my head. I know that if I lived ANYWHERE near that lava creeping along, I and everything, everybody I loved, would be packed and out of there by now. What are those people waiting for? A miracle?  Maybe this is harsh on my part, buy hey…you live on a place built by volcanoes with active volcanic action going on all the time and you’re not ready to choose the most important things you own and have a plan to get the heck out of dodge if it’s coming AT you? You leave cars sitting in the path of the lava to be burnt to a crisp? Strange. Very strange. That isn’t really Paradise, people. In the true Paradise you’re not going to have to worry about it turning into Hell at some point. Hawaii is pretty, but it’s only a piece of earthly geography that is far from heavenly.

Sunday, May 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Cool

Sunday, May 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Cloudy, Cool

Currently 56 with an ENE wind of 12 dropping that down to feeling like 53 degrees. Dew Point 34, Humidity 44%, Barometer 29.97 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:28 am, Sunset 8:48 pm. Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of occasional showers. High 63. NE winds 10 – 20 mph.

Clearing overnight skies. Low 41. NE winds 10 – 20mph.

A bit of a cool down today. Rather on the gloomy side with occasional spits of light rain. Nothing to be concerned with, really, and tomorrow holds out the promise of being sunnier and warmer. We seem to be in a yoyo pattern here in early May. Nice and not so much, nice and not so much. Looks to be continuing along those lines for at least the next week. Oh well…we’ll survive.

It is turning out to be one of those nonexistent Springs where suddenly everything is going to green up and viola! we’re be right smack into summer. Alas…I’ll have to wait yet another yet and hope for a good one of my favorite seasons. Wasn’t to be this year.

Saturday, May 5, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny Cinco de Mayo Day

Saturday, May 5, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny Cinco de Mayo Day

Currently 64 with an average SSW wind of 9 mph dropping that down only one degree to feeling like 63. Dew Point 49, Humidity 58%, Barometer 30.01 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:29 am, Sunset 8:47pm. Sunny today with a high of 78. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low of 48. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Ah…I see tacos in the forecast as this is Cinco de Mayo. Other than that, I see only sunshine today with a bit of cooling tomorrow along with a slight chance of showers.  Yesterday’s wind caused a lot of damage, downed trees and power outages yesterday but I lucked out and except for a bunch of small branches to pick up, no reminders of the high wind. It was a fast moving wind system and it’s now past us.

Friday, May 4, 2018 South West Michigan – High Wind Alert For The Day

Friday, May 4, 2018 South West Michigan – High Wind Alert For The Day

Currently 66 with an average SW wind of 23 mph not bothering those numbers so it still feels like 66 degrees. A windy 66 degrees, but still….Dew Point 58, Humidity 78%, Barometer 29.58 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:31 am, Sunset 8:46 pm. Decreasing cloudiness today but very windy. HIGH WIND ALERT OUT FROM 10AM THROUGH 8PM.  High 66, W winds 25-35 with gusts to 50mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 48. SW winds 10 – 15 mph.

I can hear the wind howling away up high and I suspect it won’t be long before it’s down here where it can raise havoc with those of us on the earth’s surface. Not a good day to be out driving with a high profile vehicle, that’s for sure. Or for a low one for that matter. Fighting to keep your car/truck on the road isn’t a whole lot of fun. At any rate, a good day to hang on to your hat – or not wear one for that matter and solve that problem. Fingers crossed the wind doesn’t mess around with the electric power lines. I love a windy day, but not when it gets crazy like this. Thank goodness this is a fast moving wind system that will be here and gone by tonight.
