An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024-SW Michigan-Fine Fall Day For Us

Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024-SW Michigan-Fine Fall Day For Us

Currently 61 with an average wind from the NE of 2 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 7:31 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 70s. L winds becoming NE 5-10 mph in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy with a low in the lower 50s. E winds 5-10 mph.

Today should be a winner, tomorrow likely, too.  But believe it or not we might be looking at the tail end of Hurricane Helene’s remnants on around Sunday. The storm is set to slam into Northern Florida but the path of it may curve to the north and east once it gets inland. Granted, the strong winds and dangerous elements of it’s Florida lading will be long worn out, but resulting rain may remain. So we may or may not get a rainy end to our weekend.

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024-SW Michigan-Look For Afternoon Sunshine

Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024-SW Michigan-Look For Afternoon Sunshine

Currently 63 with an average wind from the WSW of 2 mph. Feels like 63 degrees. Dew Point 61, Barometer 29.87, Humidity 94%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 7:33 pm.

Mostly cloudy with  20% chance of morning rain showers becoming a mostly sunny afternoon. High in the lower 70s. NW winds 5-10 mph.

Mostly clear with a low in the lower 50s. Light winds.

We’ve reached the point where our sun rises and sets at the same time – 7:33 – morning and evening, and from now on we will have less light than dark. Not in big gobs at a time, but gradually. And it does seem as if our 80 degree days are now a thing of the past until next year. Slowly but surely we’re heading into the short, cruel season. Mother Nature lures us in with a season of glorious beauty to admire and then lowers the boom on us with winter. Yup…definitely not heading into the right direction for me.

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2024-SW Michigan-Rainy Tuesday

Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2024-SW Michigan-Rainy Tuesday

Currently 59 with an average wind from the ESE of 2 mph. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 97%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 7:34 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Patchy overnight fog. Low in the upper 50s. Light winds.

Looking for rain most of the day and then again over the weekend now appears to be a rainy one. As of now, Saturday through Monday. Not a 100% surety but the opportunity is definitely there.

Looking like a major hurricane is set to roar into Florida this week. Aren’t we lucky when we talk about rain we’re talking an inch or so, whereas they’re expecting the possibility of major amounts. Michigan definitely has a lot to offer and the lack of hurricanes and earthquakes most certainly figure way up there on that scale.

Monday, Sept. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Clear Today, Rain Tomorrow

Monday, Sept. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Clear Today, Rain Tomorrow

A pleasant day today but look for rain tomorrow. None after that seen until perhaps Sunday. Nights and mornings now are beginning to feel more like fall. A seasonal chill is definitely in the air. Nothing drastic in our forecast for the next week, just Michigan gradually moving on into Autumn.

Not seeing any rain this morning but this afternoon may become a different story. Rain again on Tuesday is a possibility. 70 degrees seem to be what we’ll be looking at this week. Not a bad week coming at us for the first week of Fall.

Extremely foggy this morning but it’s supposed to burn off leaving us with a fine sunny afternoon. Still very warm, likely to get to around 87 today. This sort of ends with the rain coming in Sunday and again on Tuesday. We’ll be seeing 70 degree days this coming week with sun and clouds sharing our days. Looks like a comfortable week for us.

Friday, Sept. 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Slight Chance For Severe Weather Later

Friday, Sept. 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Slight Chance For Severe Weather Later

Currently 72 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 60, Barometer 29.83, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 7;42 pm.

Partly sunny with a chance of showers and thunderstorms until midday then 70% chance the rest of the day. There is a slight chance some of the thunderstorms could be severe. High in the lower 80s. S winds 5-10 mph becoming SW with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low around 60. Light winds.

Our warm weather continues for the next few days as the Jet Stream is wandering around to the north of us, allowing the southern heat to flood into our area. This will change after Sunday as that Jet Stream will decide to take a dip leaving us to the north of it, putting a stop to the 80 degrees. A rather strong rain system is going to travel through our area today and then another one arrives about Sunday and that one will remain with us very likely through Tuesday. Saturday seems, as of now, to be the best day of this particular weekend.

Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Warm And Dry Today

Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Warm And Dry Today

Currently 68 with a 1 mph wind from the S. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 60, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 56%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:27 am, Sunset 7:43 pm.

Sunny with a high in the mid 80s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 60s.Light winds becoming SE 5-10 mph overnight.

Looking for the chance for some rain tomorrow then again Sunday through Wednesday. We do need the precipitation, been quite dry longer than is safe. Too many dry leaves falling and sitting there ready to fuel for those  careless enough to be building campfires all over the place. A bit of rain to dampen things down is a good thing. In this case it will be putting an end to our 80 degree days and bringing in 70s for the week. Looking forward to it all.

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Warm Until Next Week

Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Warm Until Next Week

Currently 66 with an average wind from the ESE 5 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 58, Barometer 30.05, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:26 am, Sunset 7:45 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 80s. Light winds

Mostly clear with a low in th mid 50s. Light winds.

Not much change in anything weather-wise, until the beginning of next week. Looking for a bit of rain and a dip in the temperatures into the 70s. By the end of next week, we could even see some 60 degrees. Big difference between what we’ve had and what we could get in a week.

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Heat To Hang Around Through Weekend

Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Heat To Hang Around Through Weekend

Currently 61 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 30.16 Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 7:47 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 80s. E winds around 5 mph.

Clear with an overnight low in the mid 50s. Light winds.

Don’t be looking for any cool down for the next few days. Should stay warm right on through the weekend. Next week appears to be bringing us more comfortable days, temperatures in the 70s.  It might be that our hot days will be finished for the season after that. More fall-like numbers will make make plenty of people who have been suffering along in the heat mighty happy.  Bits of color beginning to show up here and there. Not much yet but we’ll be getting there soon enough.
