An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Finn Is In The Neighborhood

Currently 34 with a 10 mph wind from the ESE. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.42, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.84 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:26 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 4:00pm today.

Windy. 100% chance of snow possibly mixed with rain later on. High in the upper 30s. E winds 15-25 mph with gusts to 40.

100% chance of rain possibly mixed with snow. Low in the lower 30s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 35.

Been snowing all morning. Not heavy, but steady. The temperatures may rise enough today to make our precipitation a mix of snow and rain. This seems to be a messy storm for our area. And there is snow in the forecast every single day for the rest of the week. Next week watch for the Arctic Blast to come roaring in making it frigid around here. Then, whatever snow is on the ground is going to hang around for awhile. We are definitely in a wintry weather pattern.

Monday, Jan. 8, 2024-SW Michigan-Weather Track Keeps Changing

Monday, Jan. 8, 2024-SW Michigan-Weather Track Keeps Changing

Currently 36 with a 3 mph wind from the SSW. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 29, Barometer 30.32, Humidity 87%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am., Sunset 5:25 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the mid 30s. S winds around 10 mph becoming SE in the afternoon.

100% chance of snow. 1-2″ expected. Low in the lower 30s. E winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 25 increasing to 35 in the afternoon.

I don’t know why I’m surprised that for now that heavy load of snow seems to be parting and leaving us in the middle once again. Worst weather now appears to be going to the north and to the south of us. Will we get snow? Probably. How much? I wouldn’t hazard a guess.  One storm system after another is moving through the country leaving various weather problems along the way. Everything from blizzards, to tornadoes, to flooding. It’s crazy winter weather at it’s worst. At this point the only thing I’m positive of is that beginning next week an Arctic Blast of cold air is going to bring us frigid temperatures. Not looking forward to that in the least. I would only suggest you be ready for anything and keep an eye on the weather site you trust the most to be accurate for your area. And keep your fingers crossed that they are up to date with all the changing weather conditions.

Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024-SW Michigan-Beginning Of Lots Of Snowy Days

Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024-SW Michigan-Beginning Of Lots Of Snowy Days

Currently 34 with a calm wind from the NNW. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 100%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:24 pm.

70% chance of snow. High in the upper 30s. W winds around 10 mph increasing to 10-15 in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy overnight. Low around 30. W winds around 10 mph.

Looking ahead, it would appear for the moment as if Monday is going to be the last day without any precipitation for the next…oh, million days. OK, maybe not so much as that but every day in the foreseeable future is showing some sort of winter precipitation. Look for a possible windy and snowy Tuesday and Wednesday of this coming week, especially, when Winter Storm Finn pays us a visit. Like it or not, winter has finally descending on our area.

Saturday, Jan. 6, 2023-SW Michigan-Likelihood Of Snow All Week

Saturday, Jan. 6, 2023-SW Michigan-Likelihood Of Snow All Week

Currently 32 with a 4 mph from the ESE. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 85%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:23 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow. High in the mid 30s. E winds 5-15 mph.

70% chance of overnight snow. 1″ or less expected. Low in the upper 20s. Light winds.

Not at all sure that Winter Storm Finn is going to be dumping a mess of snow on us, but I am sure we will be getting some snow most every day in the coming week. So far, Monday is looking snow-free, but other than that, the word snow shows up in the forecast of every single day.  Sounds like a wintry week ahead of us.

Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, SW Michigan-Still Looking At Snow On The Way

Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, SW Michigan-Still Looking At Snow On The Way

Currently 34 with a 5 mph wind from the SW. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 30.23, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am., Sunset 5:22 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of snow flurries. High in the mid 30s. SW winds 5-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the mid 20s. Light winds.

Most sights are still looking at some weekend snow for us, but a much better chance for snow around next Tuesday. Winter Storm Ember is traveling through the country right now, but that one is for the most part swinging to the south and east. It appears as if the next winter storm, Finn, will be including us as it comes through about midweek. I guess it’s all due. After all, it’s January and that is a certain sure winter month.

Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024-SW Michigan-Looking At Two Snow Systems Coming Our Way

Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024-SW Michigan-Looking At Two Snow Systems Coming Our Way

Currently 28 with a 3 mph wind from the ESE. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.32, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:21 pm.

Possibly becoming partly sunny later today. High in the lower 30s. N winds 5-15 mph becoming W in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a chance of some snow flurries overnight. Low in the lower 20s. SW winds 5-10 mph.

There is an opportunity to see a peek at the sun today. That might, or might not, happen. I think what we can count on is some snow. This weekend we’ll get some snow on Saturday and again on Sunday. But it’s next week that we need to be aware of. There is the strong potential for a snowy, windy event coming our way around Tuesday and Wednesday. I’d say the possibility is, at this time, quite strong, so just be ready for what could get here. I realize it’s tricky trying to predict weather conditions these days, but this one appears to be solid. Just a heads up.

Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024-SW Michigan-Another Colorless Sky

Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024-SW Michigan-Another Colorless Sky

Currently 36 with a 3 mph wind from the NW. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 84%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:20 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of morning drizzle and afternoon snow showers. High in the mid 30s. W winds 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. N winds 5-10 mph.

Our season of colorless sky is not one of our more picturesque times. Makes one long for summer blue skies and green trees. That’s a long way off though. This has, so far, been a mild winter, but it still doesn’t offer much of a view. Looking for snow over the weekend, Saturday and Sunday could being us that. And then what appears to be a messy week ahead, with opportunities for wintry mix, snow, etc. Not looking pretty at this point. Just be ready for whatever comes along.

Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024-SW Michigan-Change Of Wintry Mix Later

Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024-SW Michigan-Change Of Wintry Mix Later

Currently 34 with an 8 mph wind from the W. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 28. Barometer 30.13, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:19 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of freezing drizzle and snow showers in the afternoon. High in the upper 30s. SW winds 15-25 mph with gusts to 35.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of freezing drizzle and snow showers overnight. Low around 30. W winds 5-15 mph.

Messy weather could visit us later today and overnight. Tomorrow, too. Right now looking at possible snow this weekend. Saturday and Sunday likely to bring snow. Winter is trying to settle in.

Monday, Jan. 1, 2024-SW Michigan-New Year Starting Out Cloudy

Monday, Jan. 1, 2024-SW Michigan-New Year Starting Out Cloudy

Currently 32 with a 4 mph wind from he ESE. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 30.15, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:18 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high in the mid 30s. NW winds 5-10 mph becoming 10 mph in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 20s. W winds 5-15 mph.

So far, so good as far as snow goes. Perhaps around Wednesday we might get some. Early next week we may be in for snow, frozen mix as the Jet Stream is going to conspire with various air currents and whatnot to bring in much more wintry weather than we’ve had so far. Just be aware. We know how fast things can change, but so far, this is what we seem to have in store.

I hope this New Year brings you good health and happiness. And all of the weather that you like the most.

Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023-SW Michigan-Misty Rain, Maybe Snow Later

Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023-SW Michigan-Misty Rain, Maybe Snow Later

Currently 37 with a wind of 1 mph from the WNW. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.86, Humidity 100%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:17 pm.

70% chance of rain and possible snow. High in the upper 30s. Light wind becoming NE 5-15 mph in the afternoon.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers possibly mixed with rain. Low in the upper 20s. N winds 5-10 mph.

A rather dreary last day of 2023.  No snow put in an appearance this morning, just off and on misty rain. There is the likelihood that snow will show up overnight. If it does, we could wake up to 2024 at least seeing a light coating of snow on the ground. Or maybe not. Our snow, so far, has been pretty much restricted to Halloween. Sooner or later we’ll see more of it, but it’s a guessing game at this point.

Snow or no snow, do take it easy if you’re out and about tonight. Start out the New Year safe and sound.  And have a Happy New Year.
