An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Mostly clear with an overnight low in the upper  30s. NW winds 5-10 mph.

Not a very pleasant morning but it should become more so in the afternoon. Still chilly but at least not so wet. Might look for more rain from Monday night into Thursday along with a couple of 70 degree days. Not many of those remaining, so we need to enjoy every one we do get. The ground has become a confetti of color with so many leaves now letting loose and falling. Won’t be long before all that left will be the skeletal bare branches of trees above us. Not yet – but not far away.

We could be getting some rain tonight and again tomorrow. I do hope so as we won’t be looking at another chance until next week some time. This weekend continues to look cool and dry. Perhaps a good weekend to get out and look for leaf color. It will warm up a bit next week, not as cool as this coming Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Slight Chance For Rain Today

Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Slight Chance For Rain Today

There is a chance for a few raindrops today, but not much of one. A better chance on Friday morning. Look for the chilliest days to be this weekend. Looks to be dry, but on the cool side. It will warm up a tad the beginning of the week. Just sounds like typical late October weather. Could be worse, it has been some years, so what we’re getting this time around is rather on the okay side.

Chance of some rain tonight and again on Friday. Other than that things are looking bright and sunny. A little cooler this coming weekend but should be good weather for leaf peeping should one feel so inclined. Not bad weather all in all for mid October.

Monday, Oct. 21, 2024-SW Michigan-One More 70 Degree Day

Monday, Oct. 21, 2024-SW Michigan-One More 70 Degree Day

Currently 66 degrees with a SSW wind of 6 mph. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 51, Humidity 58%, Barometer 30.2, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 6:49 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 70s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the lower 50s. S winds 5-10 mph.

Looks like another day well into the 70s tomorrow before we dip back into the 50s and 60s. And for now the rain appears to be perhaps Thursday night, Friday morning. But right now doesn’t look like much. Things could change but so far that is the picture we’re seeing. Color is brilliant right now and these sunny days make the sky book even more blue behind the colored leaves.  Nice time to be out leaf peeping. And leaf raking. One is much more fun than the other.

Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Enjoy These 70 Degree Days

Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Enjoy These 70 Degree Days

Mostly clear with an overnight low in the mid 50s. SW winds 5-10 with gusts to 20 in the evening.

If you’re like me and dread the lose of warm weather, I hope you’re taking advantage of these few 70 degree days. We may – or may not – see any more of them. It’s Fall in Michigan and things can change in a hurry if Mother Nature turns surly. The color is brightening up and the days are comfortable. Time to be out leaf peeping. Won’t be too long until most of those colorful leaves will be laying brown on the ground. Well, a lot of them already are, but more are still hanging on the tree branches. Get those rakes out and handy, but in the meantime get out and do the fun part of Fall. That would involve NOT raking the leaves up yet.

Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Nice But Cool Weekend

Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Nice But Cool Weekend

Currently 65 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 46, Humidity 45%, Barometer 30.46, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 6:52 pm.

Mostly clear with an overnight low in the mid 40s. SW winds 5-10 mph.

A lovely sunny day, a little on the cool side, but we take what we can get. Still looking for around 70 degrees for the next three day but then rain and a dip back into the 50s by Wednesday. A good weekend to be out and about, looking at color, or raking up the color or whatever appeals to you the most.

Friday, Oct, 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Air Full Of Flying Leaves

Friday, Oct, 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Air Full Of Flying Leaves

Currently 46 with an average wind from the SSW of 2 mph. Feels like 46 degrees. Dew Point 37, Humidity 53%, Barometer 30.41, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 6:93 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the mid 60s. S winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 20.

Clear with an overnight low around 40. Light winds.

Some nice days on the way – tomorrow though Tuesday – with temperatures back into the 70s. Looking forward to that. Next Wednesday it ends with some cold rain and falling temperatures so I reckon the thing to do is get out there and take advantage of it.

With every breeze the trees are already letting loose of their leaves where they end up flying through the air like flocks of tiny birds. My parking lot is loaded with them where they’ve decided to land and die. For as pretty as the leaves look still attached to the trees, they quickly loose their appeal on the ground. There they turn brown and become merely a task that not too many people look forward to. Raking leaves is a lot of work. But there it is, that time of year. And bottom line, raking is less work than shoveling snow which unfortunately comes next. So grab that rake and have at it while the weather is still pleasant.

Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly Fall Morning

Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly Fall Morning

Currently 43 with an average wind from the S of 1 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 40, Humidity 78%, Barometer 30.31, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 6:55 pm.

Clear overnight with a low in the upper 30s. S winds 5-10 mph.

Sure feels fall-like in the mornings now. Mornings already meant for staying in bed if possible. Looking for more of the same from here on. Might see a comfortable day along the way but they won’t last. 50s and 60s with nights in 30s and 40s. That’s about it. Plenty of color showing up. Plenty of leaves on the ground. More of the same with that from now on, too.

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunshine And 60 In Store

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunshine And 60 In Store

Currently 48 with an average wind from the SSE of 6 mph. Feels like 48 degrees. Dew Point 36, Humidity 63%, Barometer 30.31, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 6:57 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the mid 50s. NW winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear with areas of frost overnight. Low in the lower 30s. Light winds.

Chilly nights and mornings. About usual for this time of year, I guess. Looks much like sunshine and 60 degree days coming our way for the next week. Not seeing any rain coming in that time period, not at present anyway. And although snow is starting to fall in the west and higher elevations, seeing none in our immediate forecast. Thank goodness for that.
