An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024-SW Michigan-Potential For Severe Weather Tonight

Currently 57 with a 5 mph wind from the SW. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 53, Barometer 29.42, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi.,Sunrise 7:22 am, Sunset 6:29 pm.

Partly sunny today. High in the upper 60s. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

100% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms in the evening then rain possibly mixed with snow showers overnight. Low in the mid 20s. SW winds 5-15 becoming SW 10-15 with gusts to 30.

Our strange weather continues. Could see 70 degrees today and tomorrow we’ll be in the 30s with the chance of snow. Never fear, our temperatures will begin an upward march the day after that, so the snow won’t last long. Long enough to remind us of what February in Michigan should look like – an appearance most of us are thrilled that hasn’t been the case this year. Anyway, look forward to a nice weekend with sunshine. Nothing like variety.

Monday, Feb. 26, 2024-SW Michigan-Crazy February Weather Continues

Monday, Feb. 26, 2024-SW Michigan-Crazy February Weather Continues

Currently 43 with a SE wind of 6 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:24 am, Sunset 6:28 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 50s. E winds 10-15 mph becoming SE 15-20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers and a slight chance for a thunderstorm overnight. Low in the upper 40s. S winds 15-20 with gusts to 35.

This really is interesting weather. We could see upper 60s, maybe if Mother Nature tries hard enough 70, tomorrow. We’ll get rain and then a thump of a drop in the temperature back into the 30s with the chance of snow by Wednesday. This if not any February in Michigan that I can ever remember, but I’m rather enjoying the variety of weather with all the ups and downs as they come along. Won’t enjoy the snow on Wednesday, but the temperature will once again rise so we will get rid of it quickly. That’s the only sort of snow I am comfortable with. A day’s worth and then gone….

Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly But Sunny Sunday

Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly But Sunny Sunday

Currently 43 with an average wind from the WSW of 5 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 29.74, Humidity 53%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:25 am, Sunset 6:27 pm.

Partly sunny becoming mostly sunny. High in the upper 40s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to around 35.

Partly cloudy with an overnight low around 30. W winds 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Not a bad Sunday for a February in Michigan. Look for our roller coaster temps to continue this week. Maybe a rain storm, which would be cool, and perhaps some snow after that. But it won’t last long because the week should end up with very comfortable temperatures again. This weather is unusual, but very interesting. And for me, enjoyable.

Keep looking for ups and downs in our temperatures. Some 50s some 30s. Perhaps some snow around  next midweek. This continues to be an interesting and unusual month of February.

Friday, Feb. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Small Chance For Snow Showers Today And Tonight

Friday, Feb. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Small Chance For Snow Showers Today And Tonight

Currently 34 with a 3 mph wind from the SSE. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 29.64, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:29 am, Sunset 6:24.

Partly sunny with a 20% chance of afternoon snow showers. High in the lower 40s. N winds 5-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of evening snow showers then becoming mostly clear overnight. Low 15-20. N winds 5-15 mph.

Not bad, this small chance of snow showers. Look for more about midweek coming up – Wednesday or Thursday. Our temperatures, for the most past, are going to stay relatively high. Tomorrow will see a dip back into the 30s, and those dips and dives will continue to show up now and again for a while. Roller coaster numbers, which at least shouldn’t sneak up on us, as the weather stations are fairly accurate at letting us know when they highs and lows are coming for us. So far, a strange month of February. Let’s watch it play out and see what happens with the rest of it.  Watch for a full moon on the 24 – The Snow Moon – and get ready for a little less sleep. Research appears to indicate we don’t sleep as well during a full moon. Oh well…some folks, like me, don’t sleep well at any time, so nothing unusual for us :>)

Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024-SW Michigan-Fine February Continues

Mostly clear with an overnight temperature around 30. Light winds becoming NW 5-10 mph.

February continues to pretend like it’s March, or even on some days, April. This is perfectly acceptable to most of us and we’re willing to go along with it. Except for a few notable events, this year’s month of February has been extraordinary. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it, what that portends for our Spring? My fingers are crossed that it just keeps on keeping on, getting nicer and warmer as it goes along. No backsliding. I reckon we’ll see how it goes as it goes.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024-SW Michigan-Possibility Of Some Rain Before Dip In Temp

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024-SW Michigan-Possibility Of Some Rain Before Dip In Temp

Currently 45 with a 5 mph wind from the SSW. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 52%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 6:22 pm.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy with a low in the lower 30s. W winds around 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

A fair chance of some rain tonight and tomorrow and then a few days of our temperatures dipping back into the 30s. Never fear – they’re gong to be back up in the comfortable zone quickly. Weather conditions continue to be out of the norm for a Michigan February. Hopefully, March will remain with the program and be nice ’cause….are you ready? March Could Be Nice. Maybe this year it actually will be.

Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Unusual February Continues

Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Unusual February Continues

Currently 30 with a 4 mph wind from the SSW. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 30.22, Humidity 61%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:33  am, Sunset 6:20 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 40s. S winds 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the mid 30s. S winds 10-15 mph.

Going to have some decent temperatures here in Michigan for this year’s month of February.  50 degree range – that’s not our usual run of the mill February weather. Look for a dip in the numbers about Friday and Saturday, but then it rebounds. In fact, this roller coaster affair with our temperatures appears to be our routine. Not bad at all considering what it could be this time of year. Just doesn’t appear to be any snow in our forecast for the foreseeable future. Let’s hope that stays true.

Not just us enjoying what appears to be an early spring. The Cherry Blossoms are blooming in Japan already. Even there things are ahead of schedule. Nothing quite that flamboyant here, but we’re doing our best.

Monday, Feb. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Cold Sunshine

Monday, Feb. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Cold Sunshine

Currently 23 with a SSE wind of 3 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 21, Barometer 30.18, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 6:18 pm.

Partly sunny until midday then becoming mostly sunny. High around 40. S 10 mph. winds becoming SW in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a low in the mid 20s. Light winds.

Bright and sunny out there this morning but no question but that it’s chilly. Went out to feed the critters this morning and it felt like…well, February. We could build up to a 50 degree day on Thursday but then it takes a nosedive back into the 30s over the weekend. Still, this is not bad at all for a Michigan February. Long as we can see some sun shining, it feels fine. Cold or not.

Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Going To Warm Up

Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Going To Warm Up

Currently 32 with a 10 mph wind from the WNW. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 29.72, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 6:17 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the lower 30s. W winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy with an overnight low in the lower 20s. NW winds around 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Well, not real quick, but it is going to be warming up. We’ll be seeing some 40 degree days, maybe even 50s very soon. Getting some rain rather than snow. It all sounds good to me. Except for a few exceptions, February, this year, hasn’t been all that bad. May that continue to the end and then March be even better.
