An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

A gloomy beginning to our week but with needed rain. Haven’t had as much of it as we’ve needed so these few days of rainy weather are not fun but welcome. And we can be grateful it’s only rain and not snow.

Looks a lot like rain will move in later today. And once it gets here, seems as if rain is in the forecast until about Wednesday. Hopefully you were able to gather up a lot of those fallen leaves left by our high wind by now ’cause you won’t get much of an opportunity again for a while. Not very colorful out there now with so many of the leaves down. Lots of bare sticks left behind. Sure is looking a lot like November.

Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly Sunshine Today

Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly Sunshine Today

Currently 39 with an average wind from the NE of 4 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 35, Humidity 85%, Barometer 30.41, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:19 am, Sunset 6:32 pm.

Partly cloudy with a low in the mid 30s. SE winds around 10 mph tonight.

Found some ice in the birdbath this morning. Appears to be time to turn it on at night now. November is starting out on the chilly side, as it should. As it must. After all, we’re now rapidly heading into the winter months. They’ll be here sooner than you imagine. Seems like we were just waiting for spring and now we’re at the other end. Would must prefer it to be the opposite but I haven’t much say in the matter. Aiming to get out and rake leaves out of my tiny backyard area – hopefully for the last time this year.  The past few days of harsh winds have managed to cram a ton of them up close to my backdoor again. Had enough of that, now. Shouldn’t complain, however, won’t be long and I’ll be complaining about the snow in my backyard needing to be moved. Alas…

Friday, Nov. 1, 2024-SW Michigan-Winds Finally Calm

Friday, Nov. 1, 2024-SW Michigan-Winds Finally Calm

Currently 43 with and average wind from the NW of 11 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 36, Humidity 76%, Barometer 30.22, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:17 am, Sunset 6:33 pm.

20% chance of an early shower.  Cloudy for the most part with possible peeks of sunshine later today. High 51. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 30. N winds 5-10 mph.

Yesterday’s wind was fierce. Trees are looking mighty different today from just a few days ago. Also our temperature is down considerable, too. And it’s going to stay there. No need to be looking for anymore 70s or near 80s…not for some time to come. It was nice while it lasted but alas….it’s now long gone, blown away by some persistent high winds. Looks like Saturday I’ll be back out in my little backyard with a rake again. Hopefully for the last time this year. And so starts the month of November in Michigan.

Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024-SW Michigan-Windy, Rainy Halloween Forecast

Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024-SW Michigan-Windy, Rainy Halloween Forecast

Currently 64 with an average wind from the SSE of 7 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 59, Humidity 83%, Barometer 29.8, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:16 am, Sunset 6:35 pm.

Wind Advisory in effect from 2:00 pm today to 2:00 am Friday.

80% chance of rain with a slight chance for a thunderstorm today. High in the upper 60s. SW winds 15-25 mph with gusts to 45 in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a 20% chance of overnight rain. Low in the lower 40s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 40 decreasing to 30.

Not a very pleasant forecast for any trick or treaters this evening. If the rain holds off, sounds as if the wind won’t be so kind. There are so few of the little candy seeking goblins anymore it probably won’t matter so much. But for those out there, try to keep them dry and tied down so they don’t blow away. No more rain in sight after this until Sunday. That, unfortunately, appears to want to last until Wednesday, so a rainy period ahead.  Should take care of what leaves are left behind after the wind blows through.

Partly cloudy becoming cloudy with a 70% chance of overnight rain. Low in the lower 60s. S winds 10-20 mph with gusts to around 35.

Wind and rain will help bring down a lot of our leaves. It’s that time of the year. I hope you’ve had the chance to get out and do some leaf peeping while the leaves were still all connected and the color was brilliant. Been a pretty fall this year. Evidently the weather has cooperated along those lines. Hard to believe we’re on the edge of slipping out of October and falling into November already. Sure came around fast. Now to get ready for Halloween to polish it all off.

Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024-SW Michigan-Enjoy The 70 Degree Days

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the mid 60s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 35.

Enjoy today and tomorrow because this could jolly well be the last of our 70 degree days. Not seeing anything like this in the foreseeable future. This is remarkable weather for the end of October in Michigan. Lots of 50s and 60s. Getting more toward the 50s as the days go on. Our rains could become more prevalent and chillier. Just the way it is. In the meantime a couple of really comfortable days are ours. Go forth and enjoy them.

Monday, Oct. 28, 2024-SW Michigan-Possible Rain Tonight

Monday, Oct. 28, 2024-SW Michigan-Possible Rain Tonight

Currently 46 with an average wind from he SE of 4 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 35, Humidity 65%, Barometer 30.21, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 6:39 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 70% chance of overnight rain and a chance of a thunderstorm. Low around 50. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Looking like rain tonight and then again about Thursday. Other than that, plenty of sunshine and a couple of fairly warm days mixed in there. Don’t be looking for a whole lot more of those comfortable days, we’re lucky to be getting two of them. Might see more rain coming, it’s almost November and things turn a little damp from now on. Count us fortunate none of it is looking to be snow yet. A lot of the brilliant color has faded from the trees in places. In others, it’s still blazing away. Again, that time of year. Soon enough Mother Nature’s attempt to appease our senses with color in order to make us forget the dull white and black color scheme she really has in mind will be way gone.

Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024-SW Michigan-Bright But Chilly

Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024-SW Michigan-Bright But Chilly

Currently 45 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 34, Humidity 66%, Barometer 30.37, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 6:40 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 50s. Light winds.

Mostly clear with an overnight low in the mid 30s. S winds around 10 mph.

Such a pretty day, nice and bright – but it’s darn chilly out there. Nice to know that this coming week will bring us a couple of comfortable days. Upper 70s, might even see an 80. Won’t last  but we’ll take what we can get even if it’s only one or two days at a time. We should get some rainy days coming this week, too. And mostly back into the chilly temperatures. Things could be so much worse the end of October in Michigan, we we’re grateful for what’s in store for us for now.

Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024-SW Michigan-Cool But Pleasant Weekend

Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024-SW Michigan-Cool But Pleasant Weekend

Currently 47 with an average wind from the WNW of 6 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 37, Humidity 68%, Barometer 30.39, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 6:41 pm.

Sunny with a high in the mid 50s. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Mostly clear with an overnight low around 30. Light winds.

This should be a great weekend to get out and take in the fall color. The rains that will eventually get around us will take down a lot of them, the color will fade and the opportunity will be lost before too long. That colorful confetti all over the ground is proof that it’s now or perhaps never for leaf peeping. Like spring when the light green begins and suddenly Poof! everything is green and lush, our falls are much the same. The color begins, blazes away, the leaves start to fall and suddenly it’s all gone and what’s left on the trees will be dull brown. Then nothing but bare branches. So…get out there, take a look, take your pictures and enjoy it while it’s there.
