An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, June 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Hot Weather To Continue

Currently 81 with a 12 mph wind from the S. Feels like 86. Dew Point 69, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:24 pm

Heat Advisory continues through Friday.

Partly sunny today with a 30% chance of rain and thunderstorms High in the lower 90s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25. Heat index to 100.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the mid 70s. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

A bit of a micro-burst last evening around 7:00. Sudden wind whipping the trees around and a heavy, but brief, rainfall. It did manage to knock the heat down a few degrees, which was welcome. This whole week is going to be a hot one with the chance of rain popping up now and then. Just enough to help keep that humidity in play. Could see some rain on Thursday or Friday and very possibly over the weekend. The temperature seems as if it’s going to come back down into the 80s the beginning of next week. Trouble is our nighttime temperatures aren’t dropping down much, which doesn’t allow for much of a relief from the heat. Hang in there. Keep watching the weather and stay cool.

Monday, June 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Could Be Worse This Week

Monday, June 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Could Be Worse This Week

Currently 77 with an average wind from the S of 12 mph. Feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:24 pm.

Sunny with a 30% chance of rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon. High in the lower 90s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 25. Heat Index to 99 today.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of overnight rain and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 70s. S winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Things as of now look like it won’t be quite as bad as it could have been this week. I don’t see anything approaching upwards to 100 showing up for us as was predicted. That’s how fast things can change. No question about it, we’ll still be hot, dwelling in the 90s most days. But just last week it was looking like we’d be living in the outskirts of Hades. Look for some rain next weekend. As of now anyway that’s the scenario.  In the meantime, stay as cool as possible and keep your body hydrated during our heat wave. Thinking this summer is shaping up to be a steamy one all the way through, so might as well get used to the heat and learn to live in it safely.

Sunday, June 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Careful Of Heat Excess This Week

Sunday, June 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Careful Of Heat Excess This Week

Currently 75 with a 4 mph wind from the SSE. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 75 Barometer 30.04, Humidity 48%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the 80s. S 10-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms.  Low around 70. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

A very slight chance of rain today. Mostly what we have is the beginning of a hot week of 90 degree days. There is an Excessive Heat Watch through Friday. The Jet Stream wandered way to the north, leaving us undefended from the high pressure building from the south. We are destined to be getting a taste of what states like Louisiana contend with all summer long. This is a week to pay attention and stay safe. Keep hydrated and either in A/C places or if you must be outside, keep to or get to shaded areas often.  Look for rain next weekend, which should knock us out of the 90 degree days into the 80s. That should feel downright refreshing after managing to get though this week. At any rate, be careful of this brutal heat coming our way. And if you get a chance, check in with older folk or those without A/C. You may just save a life. Because this kind of heat can certainly take it away.

Saturday, June 15, 2024-SW Michigan-Heat To Build Starting Tomorrow

Saturday, June 15, 2024-SW Michigan-Heat To Build Starting Tomorrow

Currently 70 with an average wind from the SE of 8 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 51, Barometer 30.2, Humidity 51%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

Sunny until midday then partly sunny. High in the lower 80s. SE winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 until midday.

Mostly cloudy becoming partly cloudy. Low around 60. SE winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Enjoy the ‘coolness’ of today as it’s not going to return for a bit. Our time spent until the high pressure ridge that’s allowing southern heat to include us will provide 90 + days for our area. Some suggestion there could be a very slight chance for some rain on Tuesday, but I wouldn’t count on it lowering the temperature much. We seem destined to be in the 90 degree range all week. Even when these 90 degree days fade, it will only lower us into the 80s for the following week. Still summer warm.

Friday, June 14, 2024-SW Michigan-Last Couple Of Fairly Comfortable Days

Friday, June 14, 2024-SW Michigan-Last Couple Of Fairly Comfortable Days

Currently 73 with a 10 mph wind from the ENE. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 53%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:23 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the lower 80s. NE winds 5-10 mph becoming N 10-15 in the afternoon.

Mostly clear with a low in the lower 50s. NE winds 5-10 mph.

Today and tomorrow might be the last fairly comfortable days we’re going to see for the next week. Might as well get ready as a major heat wave is set to roll in and smother us in 90 degree days. Several of them in the upper 90s.  This is going to be an uncomfortable week – and the word is this entire summer is supposed to be a hot one. I’m thinking even folks like me who don’t really care all that much for A/C will be using it on a regular basis. And already feeling bad for those who don’t have it. This, if all goes as predicted, promises to be a dangerous summer for heat.

Thursday, June 13, 2024-SW Michigan-No More Rain For A Week

Thursday, June 13, 2024-SW Michigan-No More Rain For A Week

Currently 81 with an average wind of 12 mph from the SW. Feels like 81 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the mid 80s. 10-20 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. W 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 becoming light.

Woke to a nice rain storm this morning and looking for more possible rain today. There is a slight chance that some of the thunderstorms could be severe. What ever we get will be the last predicted precipitation until a week from now, next Thursday. Other than that we’ll just be getting some hot days. In fact, by the beginning of next week we could be well into the upper 90s. Just be ready. Watch the forecasts and take precautions to stay safe. That’s some kind of dangerous heat.

Wednesday, June 12, 2024-SW Michigan-Maybe A Bit Of Rain Along With Warmth

Wednesday, June 12, 2024-SW Michigan-Maybe A Bit Of Rain Along With Warmth

Currently 70 with a 5 mph wind from the SSE. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 40% chance of rain until midday. High in the lower 80s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight. Low in the upper 60s. SW winds 5-10 mh with gusts to 20.

Starting off on a spate of hot days. We should be well into the 90s by the beginning of next week. Could get some rain overnight and perhaps tomorrow, but none in the picture after that until a week from now. Next Wednesday. Of course, we all know how things can change and how fast that can come around. Looking like nothing is going to hold off all that hot weather though, so just get ready. Stay cool and hydrate while we’re in that hot zone.

Tuesday, June 11, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunshine And Warming Up

Tuesday, June 11, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunshine And Warming Up

Currently 61 with a calm wind from the N. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 45, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 58%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Sunny. High in the lower 70s. Light winds becoming N 5-10 mph in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain showers. Low in the mid 50s. Light winds.

Look for some  possible storms on Thursday. Other than that, get ready for plenty of summer heat to visit our area. That big ridge that was protecting our state has decided to move, allowing a heat dome to move in and build over us. We should see our first 90 degree numbers the beginning of the week. Sunday could be a scorcher, too. Time to check those A/C units, folks, and make them ready. Just did mine. It isn’t. Alas…fingers crossed for repairs before next week. I don’t use mine much, but 90 degrees will get even my attention. And they seem to be on the way.

Monday, June 10, 2024-SW Michigan-Days Of Sunshine For Us

Monday, June 10, 2024-SW Michigan-Days Of Sunshine For Us

Currently 57 with an average wind of 2 mph from the ESE. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point 43, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 56%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 60s. N winds 10-15 mph.

Clear overnight with a low in the lower 40s. N winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening becoming light.

A cool day and a cooler night coming. Sunshine coming our way should help warm things up, in fact could be close to 90 on Sunday and definitely into the lower 90s by the beginning of next week. That’s hot.  As of now, look for the chance of some rain now on Thursday. Other than that, looks like a clear week ahead. With heat building.

Sunday, June 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunny Week Coming Up

Sunday, June 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunny Week Coming Up

Currently 66 with an average wind of 5 mph from the W. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 68, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:20 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 70s. NW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 40s. n winds 5-15 with gusts to 25 mph.

Look for nothing but sunshine coming our way for the next week. Temperatures building by the end of the week into the 80s. Very summery weather will be ours.
