An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Friday, June 28, 2024-SW Michigan-Weather Has Turned Chilly

Currently 68 with an average wind from the SSE of 12 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 29.96 & falling, Humidity 67%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:06 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a  20% chance of afternoon showers. High in the upper 70s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

70% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. S winds 5-15 mph.

What a difference this week. Feels downright nippy to me. Look for a chance of some rain later and overnight. Again tomorrow. Sunday is still looking clear but a tad on the chilly side. Doesn’t look like any major warm up in store. We should be in the 70s, perhaps lower 80 a few days, but nothing drastic. Should please those unfavorable to hot weather. Not me. I’m a fan.

Thursday, June 27, 2024-SW Michigan-Very Cool Start To Morning

Currently 63 with an average wind from the N of 12 mph. Feels like 63. Dew Point 47, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 60%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the mid 70s. N 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low in the mid 50s. Light winds becoming SE 10 mph during the night.

Felt more like fall than summer this morning when I woke up. Frankly, I miss the heat already and want it back.  Doesn’t look like that’s going to happen any time soon. Our temperatures look to be in the 70s or low 80s at best for the next week. Sunshine tomorrow, rain on Saturday, and sunshine again on Sunday. At least we’re getting a variety. Of sorts.

Wednesday, June 26,, 2024-SW Michigan-What A Different Morning!

Currently 75 with an average wind from the W of 7 mph. Feels like 75 degrees, Dew Point 65, Barometer 298, Humidity 76%, Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy until midday becoming mostly sunny. High in the upper 70s. w winds around 10 mph becoming NW in the afternoon.

Mostly clear. Low in the lower 50s. N winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Should be seeing some sunshine tomorrow and Friday, but rain coming in on Saturday. So far, Sunday is look good, if a bit cool. Was truly thankful for waking up to a calm, uneventful morning today as compared to the chaos of yesterday. My understanding is there are some people put out that sirens were heard when in effect we didn’t have a true tornado. Brutal winds that manage to snap trees like twigs certainly qualifies for needing a head’s up in the minds of most of us.  Take it from someone who used to have a park-like property that was reduced to land with broken or downed trees from straight line winds, they can be every bit as damaging as a tornado. Me? I’m grateful for the sirens going off. Knowing there are people weather-aware and ready to put out alerts.

Tuesday, June 25, 2024-SW Michigan-One Weird Morning

Currently 70 with an average wind from the S of 14 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 2973 and falling, Humidity 86%, Visibility 7 mi, Sunrise 6:05 am, Sunset 9:25 pm

90% chance of more showers and thunderstorms this morning becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. High in the lower 80s, SW winds 10-20 mph becoming W 10-15 mph in the afternoon with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy with  30% chance of overnight showers with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Low in the mid 60s. W winds 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

What a bizarre morning. An hour of continuous thunder led into a violent wind with tornado sirens going off around 6:30. Haven’t been outside to see what happened but I could hear trees cracking and breaking so I suspect there is some damage out there.  Still a light rain outside with an occasional rumble of thunder. Supposed to see some sunshine later today but as of the moment, that seems doubtful. We will see some sunshine tomorrow and Thursday, but look for more rain on Friday and Saturday.  Sunday is still looking fine.

Monday, June 24, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunny And Pleasant Today

Currently 64 with  an average wind from the NNW of 4 mph. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 60, Barometer 29:98, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the lower 80s. Light winds.

60% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60s. Light winds becoming S 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.A proper and enjoyable thunderstorm last night has left us with pleasant temperatures for today. Look for more rain tonight and tomorrow, but don’t bother looking for that smothering heat to be returning  right yet. Should stay agreeable with some of our night time temperatures making sleep comfortable with some windows open for fresh air.

Sunday, June 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Cloudy And Cooler Today

Sunday, June 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Cloudy And Cooler Today

Currently 68 with an average wind from the W of 12 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 29.7, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Mostly cloudy morning becoming mostly sunny afternoon. High in the mid 70s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly clear with a low in the mid 50s. NW winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Much cooler today after a substantial thunderstorm last night. Look for rain again about Tuesday and perhaps next Saturday. Peering far into the future, next Sunday is looking, for now, to be another winner like this one. Fingers crossed on that. No 90 degree days in view for now and that’s a blessing.

Saturday, June 22, 2024-SW Michigan-Possible Severe Weather Later

Saturday, June 22, 2024-SW Michigan-Possible Severe Weather Later

Currently 79 with an average wind from the S of 8 mph. Feels like 81 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the upper 80s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

90% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe. Low in the mid 60s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Wouldn’t be much of a surprise if we didn’t end up with some severe weather later today or into the evening hours. It’s going to cool down considerable tomorrow compared to what we’ve been dealing with. Heat will more or less return by Tuesday, resulting in some more rain. Not looking for more 90 degree days right away, but we will be in the 80s next week for the most part.

Friday, June 21, 2024-SW Michigan-Some Storm Activity Yesterday

Friday, June 21, 2024-SW Michigan-Some Storm Activity Yesterday

Currently 77 with an average wind from the East of 4 mph. Feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 70, Barometer 30.24, Humidity 96%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Partly sunny until about midday becoming mostly sunny. High in the upper 80s. 50% chance of a shower or thunderstorm. Light winds. Heat Index to 97.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 70s. Light winds.

Well, late yesterday becoming a little more active than anyone wanted. Storm system rolled through bringing some wind, rain and a small tornado or two. There is a slight chance for severe weather to pop up between now and Sunday morning. As of now, Sunday is looking fine as that high pressure dome is trying to drop down a tad leaving us out of most of the brutal heat. A welcome move on the part of the jet stream.  Next week is looking better as so far no 90 degree numbers are showing up. Something else welcome for most of us.

Thursday, June 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Possible Heavy Rain Later

Thursday, June 20, 2024-SW Michigan-Possible Heavy Rain Later

Currently 79 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 79 degrees. Dew Point 71, Barometer 30.3, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the upper 80s. Light winds becoming N around 6 mph. Heat index to 97.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers and a thunderstorms. Patchy overnight fog. Low in the upper 60s. Light winds.

There is a chance we could get a heavy rainfall later today. And with a low in the 60s, this might be a good night to open up some windows and get some fresh air in the place. Unless you’re like me and you’ve had a window sort of open all the way through this heat. No matter what, I have a window in my upstairs bedroom open. Not real wide, but wide enough for the cat to sit on a stool and get her little face in position to watch the nighttime activity. I know. I know. I’ve heard it all. But I have to have some fresh air or I start to feel trapped or claustrophobic or smothered or something.  Doesn’t have to be much – just some. Anyway, look for the possibility of rain tomorrow, too and it will be a bit warmer than today.

Wednesday June 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Heat And Chances Of Rain

Wednesday June 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Heat And Chances Of Rain

Currently 82 with an average wind from the SW of 12 mph. Feels like 86 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 30.2, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the lower 90s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25. Heat Index to 98.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. Light winds.

The high pressure dome continues to meander along to the north of us. This is allowing the southern heat to use us as a playground. Various sights indicate a chance for some rain tomorrow, Friday, Saturday, but leaving Sunday dry. Others are not so sure about the next few days but insist on tossing rain in for Sunday. I reckon we  just wait and see. All the while keeping that A/C cranking ’cause no matter, between now and Saturday, it’s going to be hot. Will be cooling into the 80s after that, which will seem fairly refreshing. What ever comes along, it’s a Michigan summer – one a tad on the toasty side this year. Beats snow, ice and blustery winds. For most of us.
