An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, July 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Sunny But Cool Morning

Currently 68 with an average wind of 10 mph from the N. Feels like 66 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 30.18, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:20 am, Sunset 9:16 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 70s. N winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear with a low in the lower 50s. NW winds around 10 mph with gusts to20 in the evening becoming light.

Felt like a fall morning today. Not a fan. Don’t be looking for any drastic rises in our temperatures for a while. And no rain in sight, for now, until about next Tuesday and Wednesday. Should be a decent summer week with nights cool enough for good sleeping with windows open. Me? I like it warmer, but hey…I’m a true summer fan.

Wednesday, July 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Nice Summer Week Ahead

Wednesday, July 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Nice Summer Week Ahead

Currently 70 with an average wind of 6 mph from the WNW. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 29.91, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 9:17 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 70s. NW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Clear with a low in the lower 50s. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 25 in the evening becoming light.

What a pleasant week coming up. No rain in sight – as of right now – until a week from today, actually. Mostly sun with some clouds floating around once in a while. No drastic heat. This is simply a lovely summer week in store for us. And yes, we all know how fast something can crop up, but looking ahead now, nothing. The Jet Stream is giving us a break as it shifted to the south, leaving us out of the sweltering southern heat. We aren’t being burdened with all the heavy rain that’s causing flooding problem in the southern tier of our nation. We are in the sweet spot this week. Enjoy it best you can would be my advise.

Tuesday, July 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Overcast Skies

Currently 75 with a 16 mph from the W. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.79, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 9:18 pm

Partly sunny with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the lower 80s. W winds 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight showers. Low in the lower 60s. NW around 10 mph.

Had a terrific thunderstorm last night. Started with a startling loud blast that slowly rumbled off into the distance taking it’s sweet time. Then evolved into what sounded like an audible version of Christmas ribbon candy…something that folded in on itself over and over and over. Very distinctive sound, this one.  Today, no rain so far in my little backyard, but plenty of clouds and gloom. Appears we will have sunshine the rest of the week, without drastic hot temperatures. Sounds good.

Monday, July 15, 2024-SW Michigan- Possibility Of Some Severe Weather Later

Monday, July 15, 2024-SW Michigan- Possibility Of Some Severe Weather Later

Currently 75 with an average wind from the WSW of 10 mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.87, Humidity 91%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:17 am, Sunset 9:18 pm.

80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low around 70. SW winds 5-10 mph.

Had a proper thunderstorm lat night around 2:30. Plenty of thunder, lightening, and rain.  There is the possibility of some rain and severe weather this evening/over night as the cold front comes through. This cold front will eventually drop our temperatures into the 70s by Wednesday. Should be a comfortable week later on but today will still be warm. Tomorrow not so much, but still not into the 70s yet.

Sunday, July 14, 2024-SW Michigan-Expect Cooling Later This Week

Sunday, July 14, 2024-SW Michigan-Expect Cooling Later This Week

Currently 73 with a 10 mph wind from the SW. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 67, Barometer 30, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:16 am, Sunset 9:19 pm

60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Could be partly sunny in the afternoon. High in the upper 80s with a heat index of 94-99. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Could be warm and muggy for a day or so but the Jet Stream in beginning a nice dip to the south. This will leave us in cooler weather starting about Tuesday. Might get some rain Monday and Tuesday but sunshine after that. Our week will become more livable as it goes along.

Saturday, July 13, 2024-SW Michigan-Gonna Get Hot

Saturday, July 13, 2024-SW Michigan-Gonna Get Hot

Currently 78 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 78 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 65%, Visibility 9.9 mi., Sunrise 6:16 am, Sunset 9:20 pm

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60. S winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Not sure about the next three days beyond they’re going to be hot. Rainy? Well, several websites are indicating a chance of rain, but the one I like (mainly because I like hot and dry) isn’t saying much about rain. So it’s a wait and see thing beyond the heat which seems to be a given.

Friday, July 12, 2024-SW Michigan-Should Be A Fine Day

Friday, July 12, 2024-SW Michigan-Should Be A Fine Day

Currently 73 with a calm wind from the N. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:15 am, Sunset 9:20 pm.

Mostly sunny until midday becoming party sunny. 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the lower 80s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

It’s a very pleasant morning. Some clouds, but plenty of sunshine. Tomorrow is looking good but Sunday through Tuesday appear to be bringing us some rain.  Warm temperatures ahead but nothing drastic. We are in the midst of Michigan’s very livable summer. We’re so lucky not to be faced with hurricanes, dangerous heat, etc. We usually get a nice variety that manages to stay out of the harsh ranges so many other states have to deal with.

Thursday, July 11, 2024-SW Michigan-Could Get Rain Later

Thursday, July 11, 2024-SW Michigan-Could Get Rain Later

Currently 70 with a  calm wind from the N. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 30.08, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:14 am, Sunset 9:21 pm.

Areas of dense morning fog. Mostly sunny until midday becoming partly sunny with a 40% chance of showers with a slight chance for a thunderstorm. high in the lower 80s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 60s. Light winds.

That visibility of 10 miles is debatable as some areas are involved in extremely dense fog. This will burn off quickly, but those trying to cope with it need to be cautious. Looks like a rainy day tomorrow but so far, the weekend seems to be offering sunny days. Perhaps some rain during the nighttime hours, which wouldn’t be all that bad. Long as the rain plays by the rules and only falls in the dark. Could be some very warm days coming up this weekend and on through perhaps Tuesday. Could find ourselves in 90 degrees again. This we’ll have to keep an eye on. But the possibility is there.

Wednesday, July 10, 2024-SW Michigan-Rainy Remnants Of Beryl

Wednesday, July 10, 2024-SW Michigan-Rainy Remnants Of Beryl

This was from early this morning before the Internet went down. Back up gain, so here goes:

Currently 68 with an average wind from the N of 13 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 96%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:13 am, Sunset 9;21 pm.

100% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall. High in the lower 70s. N winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low around 60. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 becoming light.

This is actually shreds of what once was Hurricane Beryl giving us all this precipitation.  Seems as if clear days will be ours once this rolls along to it’s next destination.  So far the weekend is looking good. Let’s hope that continues to be the case.

Tuesday, July 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Look For Rain To Move In

Tuesday, July 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Look For Rain To Move In

Currently 77 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 77 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi. Sunrise 6:12 am, Sunset 9:22 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of afternoon showers. High in the lower 80s. Light winds becoming W 5-10 mph.

90% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low in the mid 60s. Light winds becoming NE 5-10 mph with gusts to 25.

Believe it or not, the remnants of what once was a Cat 5 hurricane, Beryl, will be bring us rain overnight and tomorrow. All the was from the Caribbean to us is a mighty long run with plenty of damage along the way.  Look for some sunny days once this clears out – and as of now, this weekend should be fine. Things can change but for now it’s clear sailing ahead which should help dry things out nicely.
