Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Gray Sky Day

Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Gray Sky Day

Currently 29 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.08, Humidity 93%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:40 pm.

Cloudy today with a high in the lower 30s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 20 in the afternoon.

70% chance of overnight snow. Little or no accumulation expected.  Low in the upper 20s. SW winds 5-10 mph.

I sure hate to dangle hope out and have it evaporate – but there is the tiniest chance of seeing a bit of sun on Monday. Maybe. If it shows up, it will be short-lived as the rest of the week continues to be cloudy with some snow possible around Wednesday/Thursday. In the meantime, it’s clouds and snow showers for us this weekend. Gray skies abound.

Friday, Jan. 20,2023-SW Michigan-No Sunshine For Us

Friday, Jan. 20,2023-SW Michigan-No Sunshine For Us

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.76 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:39 pm

80% chance of snow. Little or no accumulation expected. High in the lower 30s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Mostly cloudy with a low in the mid 20s. W winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 25.

Recently I was requested to provide some sunshine in our forecast. Nice thought, but since I’m not Mother Nature but just a weather-nut who is fascinated with atmospheric systems and what they provide for us, all I can do is report on what I see. And, unfortunately, I don’t see a single ray of sunshine in our coming forecast. Some light snow today, more snow Saturday night, Sunday morning…then the usual assortment of clouds, potential freezing rain, flurries…you know, the fun stuff that Michigan is used to in the winter…for the coming week.  So, the best I can do is provide a picture of sunshine I captured last time any of it dared to put in a showing and stream into my living room. Has to suffice for now. Cause there sure isn’t going to be any up in the sky to be looking at. Sad, but true.

Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Cloudy, Rainy One For Us

Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Cloudy, Rainy One For Us

Currently 36 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.43, Humidity 100%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:37 pm.

100% chance of rain. High in the lower 40s. E winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 40 becoming SW with gusts to 25 in the afternoon.

90% chance of rain then a chance of snow possibly mixed with rain and freezing rain. Little or no accumulation. Low in the lower 30s. W winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Nothing special or spectacular out there today, nor is there anything in the forecast. Looks pretty much like the same old, same old. Rain, chance of snow and/or freezing rain. Plenty of clouds. No drastic temperature drops in store for the near future, either. Looks like what you see is what we can expect.

Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023-SW Michigan-Messy Storm System On The Way

Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023-SW Michigan-Messy Storm System On The Way

Currently 35 with an average wind from the WNW 1 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.87, Humidity 100%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:36 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the upper 30s. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon becoming N.

100% chance of rain and snow then rain mixed with freezing rain overnight. Snow accumulation 1″ or less, ice accumulation 1/10 or less. Low in the lower 30s. E winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 40 increasing to 15-25 with gusts to around 50 overnight.

This is just going to be messy. Snow. Rain. Freezing rain. We have a chance of getting all or at least some of it ending with what looks like plain old snow by Saturday night, Sunday morning. Nothing worse than the freezing rain. It can quickly glaze over a highway making things tricky and dangerous. Just be watchful. Be careful and take your time through whatever comes along. I’m hoping this is one of those times when it all manages to miss us. I guess we’ll see how that goes.

Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Rainy Day For Us

Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023-SW Michigan-Another Rainy Day For Us

Currently 39 with an average wind from the SSW of 6 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 29.4, Humidity 100%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:35 pm.

70% chance of rain. Areas of patchy fog throughout the day. High in the mid 40s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 30.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight rain. Low in the mid 30s. W winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Not overly cold this morning, not cold enough to turn today’s rain into snow. That’s a good thing. We should be getting used to rain and fog, we’re getting more than our share of it. Nothing drastic or severe in our forecast for the foreseeable future. Perhaps some periods of freezing rain mixing in, but other than that, so far, so good. Considering this is mid-January in Michigan, things could be so much worse.  Dismal and uncomfortable, perhaps, but nothing we can’t get though without much effort. Except for the freezing rain part. Be watchful for any of that showing up.

Monday, Jan. 16, 2023-SW Michigan-Farewell To The Sun For A While

Monday, Jan. 16, 2023-SW Michigan-Farewell To The Sun For A While

Currently 35 with an average wind from the E of 3 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:34 pmm.

90% chance of overnight rain. Low in the mid 30s. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

The weekend was wonderful with plentiful sunshine. That was then, this is now. Not a hint of sunshine in the forecast for about ever. We see rain, maybe freezing rain, perhaps snow – for sure lots of clouds – but definitely no sunlight for us. Not real soon, anyway. Nothing for it but to keep the memory of the bright days alive while we shelter from whatever we get to replace it.

Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023-SW Michigan-A Bit More Sun For Us

Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023-SW Michigan-A Bit More Sun For Us

Currently 24 with an average wind from the ESE of 3 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 90%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:32 pm

Party sunny today with a high in the upper 30s. SE winds 5-15 – with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 30s. SE winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Being graced with sunshine for most of our weekend is a rarity and yet here we are – still being allowed more sun today. Look for rain the beginning of the week and some snow around Thursday. As of now, it doesn’t look like much snow, but snow none-the-less. In the meantime, go forth and enjoy the sun still shining down on us.

Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023-SW Michigan-Sunny Saturday Sky

Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023-SW Michigan-Sunny Saturday Sky

Currently 24 with an average wind from the W of 1 mph. Feels like 24. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.17, Humidity 78%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am, Sunset 5:32 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high of 33 degrees. Light and variable winds.

A few overnight clouds. Low 26. SSE winds 5-10 mph.

Yesterday’s supposed sunshine never did put in an appearance in my backyard. A few peeks at some blue sky but not enough to allow any sunshine to slide through. Today is a different matter and it’s been clean and shiny all morning. Might have a bit of sun tomorrow, but maybe not. For sure rain the beginning of the week and keeping an eye on what could be a snowstorm of sorts about Thursday.  Just a heads up for what might be. In the meantime, today’s sun is certain to be welcome.

Friday, Jan. 13, 2023-SW Michigan- Possible Afternoon Clearing

Friday, Jan. 13, 2023-SW Michigan- Possible Afternoon Clearing

Currently 28 with an average wind from the WSW of 8 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 30, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:30 pm.

Party sunny in the afternoon. High in the lower 30s. N winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly clear overnight with a low 15-20. N winds 5-15 mph in the evening becoming light.

Our morning skies are not offering much in the way of beauty. Most are pure overcast and almost colorless. We’ve been fortunate enough to get some afternoons with clearing skies. Mother Nature allowing sunshine to color our drab world is much appreciated.  We’re looking for some of that this afternoon, and believe it or not, what could be an entire day of it tomorrow. A sunny Saturday. Nice to think about, right? And even nicer to experience. Fingers crossed nothing will step in and change that opportunity.

Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023-SW Michigan-Dismal Gray Skies

Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023-SW Michigan-Dismal Gray Skies

Currently 36 with an average wind from the ESE of 8 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 100%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:29 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. N winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly cloudy with a low in the upper 20s. N winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Take heart that it appears as of now we may be graced with a sunny Saturday. Finger crossed, of course, but it’s looking good for now. Still fortunate enough not to be expecting anything drastic or severe. So far, so good, for the month of January.
