Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022-SW Michigan-Sunshine Hasn’t Materialized So Far

Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022-SW Michigan-Sunshine Hasn’t Materialized So Far

Currently 20 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 12. Dew Point 17, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.01, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 6:05 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the mid 30s. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 25 in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of light freezing drizzle overnight. Low in the upper 20. SW winds 10-15 mph.

Okay, so all week it kept saying this was going to be the best day of the coming up. Sunshine. Do I see any sunshine out there so far? No. No, I don’t. So far it’s nothing but yet another gray sky morning. If we do get any sun shining down on us, I guess at this point I’m going to be surprised. Pleased, but surprised. The rest of the week look plain old miserable with a darn good chance of freezing drizzle mixing in with snow showers. Doesn’t that sound lovely? Yeah. Right. Sounds a lot like a miserable February weather week to me. I am SO thinking Spring.

Monday, Feb. 7, 2022-SW Michigan-Careful Of Some Freezing Drizzle

Monday, Feb. 7, 2022-SW Michigan-Careful Of Some Freezing Drizzle

Currently 29 with an average wind from the NW of 3 mph. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.12, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 6:03 pm.

Cloudy with a 70% chance of snow showers. Patchy freezing drizzle possible. High 31. WNW winds 10-20 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low 15. WNW winds 5-10 mph.

Could get a little messy today so do be careful if you’re out and about. Tomorrow should be a fairly nice day but watch out for freezing drizzle after that again. Sounds like a rather dreary week for the most part. Too many chances for bad roads and sidewalks. Be careful.

Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022-SW Michigan-Chilly But Better Than It’s Been

Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022-SW Michigan-Chilly But Better Than It’s Been

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SSW of 5 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 18, Humidity 69%, Barometer 30.2, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 6:02 pm.

Generally cloudy with a small chance of a snow shower. High around 30. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Variable cloudiness overnight with a 40% chance of snow flurries. Low around 25. SW winds 5-10 mph.

It’s been brutal cold some nights and mornings but it’s a bit better for now. Nothing much in the forecast to be any different. Next Tuesday looks to be the best day of the week, with what could be plenty of sunshine. Can’t complain about that, even if it is only one day a week. This time of year in Michigan we’re lucky to see the sun at all.

Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Cold Sunshine Today

Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Cold Sunshine Today

Currently 13 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 6, Humidity 89%, Barometer 30.48, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 6:00 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds becoming a mostly cloudy afternoon with a 20% chance of snow showers. High 24. S winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 20% chance of snow showers. Low near 15. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Nothing much of note in our forecast. Overnight temperatures should rise at least a tiny bit from the brutal last few nights. But cold weather and slight chances of snow flurries or showers continue to be our outlook for the foreseeable future. Lucky, at the moment anyway, nothing spectacular in the offing. No complaints here about that.

Friday, Feb. 4, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit More Snow, Lots More Cold

Friday, Feb. 4, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit More Snow, Lots More Cold

Currently 4 with an average wind from the N of 3 mph. Feels like 3 degrees. Dew Point -2, Humidity 79%, Barometer 30.44, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 5:58 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon snow showers. High 15-20. Light winds.

90% chance of overnight snow showers. Low 5-10. Light winds.

More proof that winter is busy showing it’s true nature, watch for more snow showers and colder temperatures. At least we aren’t dealing with the misery that Winter Storm Landon is still spreading around. Ice has been one of the major components of this winter storm system and we, in my area, lucked out and missed that part. Not so lucky elsewhere. Winter storms that bring snow and cold are bad enough, but the ones that usher in ice are the very worst of the season. Ice is treacherous and frightening. We need to consider ourselves just plain lucky to have to deal with snow and cold. As much as I hate it, I do consider that the best of the options. Anyway, cold tonight and cold again tomorrow night before it levels out a tad. Bundle up.

Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Landon Fizzled Out Here

Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Landon Fizzled Out Here

Currently 17 with an average wind from the NE of 2 mph. Feels like 6 degrees. Dew Point 7, Humidity 64%, Barometer 30.54, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5:57 pm.

Cloudy with a high around 121. NE winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy becoming a clear overnight sky. Low 4. NE winds 5-10 mph.

Going to be a bitter cold night again. One thing we learned from all the winter storm hype was that, as usual, it’s vastly overdone for the most part. At least here. Measured about 2 1/2″ of snow total in my little backyard. Not much of a snow storm. And yes, I do realize that Landon is doing plenty of bad stuff elsewhere. Just not here. Personally, not unhappy about that. (The non-action here, not the too much action elsewhere part) We are way, way overdo for a good solid snow storm, but this wasn’t it for us. Not even close.

Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Air Full Of Tiny Snowflakes

Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Air Full Of Tiny Snowflakes

Currently 24 with an average wind from the NNW of 4 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 24, Humidity 100%, Barometer 30.14, Visibility 0.68 mi, Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:55 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Thursday 11 pm. Total snowfall 4-7″ possible.

100% chance of snow. 1-3″ OR 1-4″ possible. High in the upper 20s. N winds 10-15 mph.

Chance of overnight snow 50%. Low near 15 degrees. N winds 10-15 mph.

SO many of the reporting sites are differing from each other that the only thing we can count on is it’s going to snow. What we end up with is going to be a wait and see propitiation. Anywhere from an inch to 7 inches could end up on our surface by the end of Winter Storm Landon. This winter storm is stretching from one end of the country to the other. A huge storm offering about every winter problem that is possible. Freezing rain, ice, sleet, snow…and behind it cold temperatures.  And it’s not a fast moving storm. It’s going to take its time and make life miserable for at least a couple of days. Some parts of lower Michigan are going to get dumped on. My particular part of SW Michigan? I’m still holding on to about 3″…but I’m not certain enough to bet any money on that. All I’m sure of is it is snowing now and we are expecting more of it. Just be careful out there and be happy we aren’t in that freezing rain section of this varied storm.

Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022-SW Michigan-Anticipating Some Snow

Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022-SW Michigan-Anticipating Some Snow

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SE of 8 mph. Feels like 23 mph. Dew Point 24, Humidity 70%, Barometer 29.95 & falling, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:57 pm, Sunset 5:54 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from around 2 am Wednesday through 11 pm Thursday. Predictions for my area range right around 3-6″.

Partly to mostly cloudy morning will transition to cloudy skies with a 70% chance of afternoon rain. High 41. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

Rain and snow mix in the evening will change to snow showers overnight. Less and 1″ expected. Low 24. W winds 5-10 mph.

We still are resting on the upper reaches of Winter Storm Landon and we won’t be seeing anything like what they will be getting to the south of us. 8-12″ of snow is a pretty firm prediction for the southern part of Michigan. Plenty of people here in my SW area would love to see that but unfortunately, for them at least, we aren’t falling into that zone. It will be the first major snowfall storm for lower Michigan in a long time. So lots of folks will be digging out from this one. We’ll be needing our snow shovels, but nothing like what those to the south of us will be using.
