Wednesday, June 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Sounds Like A Sweltering 4th Coming Our Way

Currently 73 with an average wind from the SW of 1 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 30.07, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:26 pm.

20% chance of a stray shower today. Mostly cloudy early becoming partly cloudy later on. High 81. W winds 10-15 mph.

20% chance of overnight showers from a few passing clouds in a mostly clear sky.

Not bad temperature-wise today or the next few, but by Sunday, they are already talking about our heat being up close to 100 as a possibility. My understanding is that our month of July is going to continue in the way too hot range, and it would seem like it isn’t going to waste any time getting to it. So far, even though we’ve had some truly hot days, we aren’t suffering from record setting heat like the East and West Coast. They are in trouble. And I heard that somewhere in Canada today the temperature is going to be a record-setting 121. That is not only outrageously hot but just plain crazy to try and survive unless you’re really careful. Not going to have to endure that extreme here, but do be prepared for this weekend to be a scorcher.

Tuesday, June 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Might Get A Bit More Rain-Or Not

Tuesday, June 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Might Get A Bit More Rain-Or Not

Currently 79 with an average wind from the SW of 10 mph. Feels like 83 degrees. Dew Point 72, Barometer 30.14, Humidity 85%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:07 am, Sunset 9:27 pm.

50% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm today. High in the lower 80s. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

60% chance of overnight showers or thunderstorms. Low around 66. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Flood Warning in effect until Thursday evening now.

It did rain a bit last night. Measured .05″, which wasn’t much but then again, we didn’t need much more. Might or might not get any of this rain, but it does look as if we’re nearing the end our little monsoon season. The week ahead looks to be on the cloudy side, but it most definitely does not bring rain into the picture on a daily basis like this past week did. And I think we’re all happy about that. Going from near drought to flood stage isn’t quite what we had in mind when we were hoping or some rain. But, unfortunately, that’s exactly what we did. Hopefully, not again. This much rain at a time we do not need.

60% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. High 83. Light winds.

70% chance of early t-storms and overnight showers. Patchy fog. Low 69. Light winds.

Well, yesterday turned into a total surprise. No rain and a nice breeze that made the day feel wonderful. Been awhile since we had a day like that. Was expecting more rain, didn’t get it. Even ended up with partially clear skies. Still looking for rain every day until the next weekend approaches, but hey…we could be in for more surprises. Who knows? All we do know is this one is starting out fine. What it turns into is what it turns into. Just so far, so good.

Sunday, June 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Today We May Avoid More Rain

Sunday, June 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Today We May Avoid More Rain

Currently 77 with an average wind from the WSW of 15 mph. Feels like 78 degrees. Dew Point 71, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight showers. Low in the lower 60s. W winds 5- 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Flood Watch is still in effect until noon today.

Well, today is a bit of a surprise. Nice breeze blowing and best of all…no rain so far. The chance is still out there for rain every day from now until next weekend. I’m thinking this is a good day to get out and about…not that you might not end up splashing around in wet, muddy grass, but hey…out and about is not bad, damp ground or whatever. I measured another 1.10″ of rain since last morning’s measurement.

Saturday, June 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Keep An Eye On The Weather Today

Saturday, June 26, 2021-SW Michigan-Keep An Eye On The Weather Today

Currently 71 with an average wind from the SSE of 5 mph. Feels like 72 degrees.  Dew Point 70, Barometer 29.88, Humidity 100%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 6:04 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

100% chance of rain and thunderstorms today. Some storms could be severe. High 79, SSW winds 10-20 mph. 1-2″ of rain expected.

90% chance of overnight rain and thunderstorms. Low near 70. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

There is a Flood Watch in effect until 8:00 am Sunday. And I suspect that will most likely be extended.

I measured 2.60″ in my gauge since yesterday morning’s measurement. This is going on overload already and there doesn’t appear to be a break in this weather pattern coming any time soon. The low lying places that have a tendency to flood out are most certainly going to be in trouble this week.  Matter of fact, places that don’t usually succumb to easy flooding may jolly well end up with problems.  As for today, keep an eye out for severe weather. It’s quite likely to develop as we’re in a line of potential severe storms and this time we may not be in our little ‘donut’ that helps us avoid unpleasant weather. Just be aware and ready.

Friday, June 25, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be A Case Of Be Careful What You Wish For

Friday, June 25, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be A Case Of Be Careful What You Wish For

Currently 67 with an average wind from the S of 9 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 67, Barometer 29.94, Humidity 100%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

100% chance of showers and thunderstorms today. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall. High in the mid 70s. S winds 5 – 15 mph becoming SE in the afternoon with gusts to 30 mph.

80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60s. SW winds 5 becoming light.

Okay…so we wanted rain? We are going to get rain. From what it looks like for the next week. I measured 1.60″ in the rain gauge this morning. There is a high pressure ridge to the east and one to the west and here we are, stuck in the middle with a huge plunge from the Jet Stream. That Jet Stream is going to keep us smack dab in the moisture. We are going to wish we hadn’t wished for rain. Alas… The only good thing is we aren’t stuck in the record heat wave the west coast is trapped in. Record heat for days and days with no escape for them. Here we can stay inside or grab an umbrella and stay dry. The West Coast – too many places with no A/C- is going to bake with no real place to escape that heat. I guess while we are going to be dealing with some local flooding – as I think we will be – we can consider ourselves luckier than those in places like Seattle.  Mother Nature truly does not like to deal with balance.

Thursday, June 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Looks Like Lots Of Rain Ahead

Thursday, June 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Looks Like Lots Of Rain Ahead

Currently 67 with an average wind from the S of 13 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 53, Barometer 30.01 & falling, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:26 pm.

100% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High around 76. SSW winds 10-20 mph.

50% chance of overnight scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 67. S winds 5 -10 mph.

For the most part, the forecast seems to hold rain every single day coming our way. There are a few disagreements about that, but the majority point to rain. We can most certainly use rain around my area. I guess it will remain to be seen. Whatever comes along we’ll take ’cause we have no choice in the matter anyway. Just keep an umbrella handy just in case.

Wednesday, June 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be A Rainy Week Ahead-Or Not

Wednesday, June 23, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Be A Rainy Week Ahead-Or Not

Currently 65 with an average wind from the SSW of 12 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 54, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 68%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:26 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a slight chance of afternoon showers popping up. High 72. SSW  winds 10-20 mph.

Partly to mostly cloudy. Low around 62. S winds 10-15 mph.

Well, we all know how quickly things can change but as of right now there’s a fair chance of some rain every day coming up at us starting late afternoon tomorrow. The temperatures, however, should stay up in the 70 degree range. Hopefully no more dives into the 60s. Fingers crossed on that. I can hardly believe I turned on my heat for the day yesterday. When it’s below 68 in my house, that’s cold. Too cold for me, so I kicked on the heat and got back to feeling comfortable. It’s still on, to tell the truth, but with any luck it can get turned back off tomorrow. And not turned on again until much later in the year. We’ll see. All I know is I have no more problem turning on the heat when it’s too cold outside than I do turning on the A/C when it gets beastly hot outdoors. I prefer neither one on, but the fact that they are both available is a blessing to me.

Tuesday, June 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Tuesday, June 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Currently 58 with an average wind from the SSW of 10 mph. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 45, Barometer 29.98 & rising, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:03 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 30% chance of showers until midday. High in the upper 60s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 50s. Light winds becoming SE around 5 mph overnight.

I don’t care who thinks this is refreshing, when I wake up and the temperature is around 50 degrees – on June 22 – this is downright cold to me. Haul out the long sleeve shirts and wait it out, I guess. Starting tomorrow things will warm up again and it looks like almost every day holds at least a small opportunity for some rain. I would prefer sunshine and warmth, but I’ll take it being warmer with the chance of rain if that’s what it takes.  Just bring back some summer-like temperatures.

Monday, June 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Did Get Overnight Storm, Some Rain

Monday, June 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Did Get Overnight Storm, Some Rain

Currently 63 with an average wind from the W of 17 mph. Feels like 62 degrees. Dew Point 60, Barometer 29.50 & rising, Humidity 89%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 6:02 am, Sunset 9:25 pm.

Cloudy with a slight chance of morning showers becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. High around 64. WNW winds 15-25 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly clear overnight. Low 41. WNW winds 10-20 mph becoming light.

We did get a small portion of that passing storm system last night. Somewhere around 2:30 this morning there was a nice display of lightening flashes and booming thunder. The rain sounded fairly steady but I only found about half an inch in the gauge this morning, so I think it was more sound and fury than substance. At any rate, any amount of rain we get is good these days. It sounds as if my little corner of SW Michigan isn’t the only spot where the storms somehow find ways to fail miserably at leaving behind any proof they existed in the first place. Strange but that’s the way it’s going this year. Today is a little too cool for me, tomorrow promises to be the same. But there are plenty of folks who like this cool break in the summery weather. I can’t wait for the real stuff to come back around.
