Friday, May 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Hints Of Possible Rain In Forecast

Friday, May 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Hints Of Possible Rain In Forecast

Currently 83 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 86 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.33 & rising, Humidity 62%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:12 am, Sunset 9:05 pm.

Party to mostly cloudy with a high around 86. SW winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly cloudy tonight with a 50% chance of rain showers after midnight. Low 66. WSW winds 10-15 mph.

Well, all of a sudden the idea that we could be getting some rain from now on through much of this coming week is showing up. My, my, my…how things change in a day. Right now it looks as if the current rain system might be rising from the south to the north in the usual pattern, once again hitting the upper part of Michigan but missing us. Let’s hope not. We could use some of that moisture. The air quality is bad again with pollen. Plus, there could be a tiny problem with smoke coming down from Canadian wildfires that seems set on filtering down into the northern tier of states. I remember once, decades ago, when there was a huge fire in Canada and I got the most spectacular pictures of our sky looking like it was on fire. I’ll see if I can’t locate those pictures. I know I have them on file someplace. They’re worth sharing again if I can. In the meantime, fingers crossed that the rain showing up in future forecasts for parts of Michigan does indeed make it into our area.

Thursday, May 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Drought Becoming Very Real Word For SW Mich

Thursday, May 20, 2021-SW Michigan-Drought Becoming Very Real Word For SW Mich

Currently 72 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 30.29 & rising, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 9:03 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the upper 80s. S winds 5 – 15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy. Low in the mid 60s. S winds 5- 10 mph.

Once again missed out on much needed rain. I think my little area got a whole 5 drops of it. We are really in need of moisture now and it’s only looking to get worse. At least for the short term. Here comes the heat due to a very strong high pressure ridge that isn’t going to be moving much and a Jet Stream curving way, way up to the north of us, leaving us smack dab tucked in under that ridge. Look for some temperatures nudging 90, definitely 80s, but don’t be looking for much in the way of needed rain around here ’cause it just isn’t in the cards as of right now. I’m loving the warmth, but longing for some rain to mix in there someplace. I think we’re going to appreciate a nice long rain-if and when we get one. Anyone know how to do a really effective rain dance?

Wednesday, May 19, 2021-SW Michigan-No Rain Yet, But Getting Warmer

Wednesday, May 19, 2021-SW Michigan-No Rain Yet, But Getting Warmer

Currently 69 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 55, Barometer 30.23 & rising, Humidity 61%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:15 am, Sunset 9:02 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High 80. S winds 10-15 with gust to around 30.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low in the lower 60s. S winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 25 in the evening.

The air feels a little close out there this morning. There is some hope of rain later on and I’m hoping it puts in an appearance. We could use it. Bizarre how parts of the country have an abundance and others in need. Right about now we’re in the needy portion for some precipitation. The heat will be with us this week giving us days of 80 degree weather and I’m more than ready for it.

Tuesday, May 18, 2021-SW Michigan-Could See 80 Degrees Today

Tuesday, May 18, 2021-SW Michigan-Could See 80 Degrees Today

Currently 69 with an average wind from the ESE 7 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 30.29, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 9:02 pm.

Mostly sunny until midday becoming partly sunny with a 30% chance of afternoon rain. High near 80 degrees. SE winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of overnight rain. Low around 60 degrees. SE winds 5 -10 mph.

We could be looking at some rain later on, overnight, maybe a bit tomorrow…but the central south portion of our country is being pounded. It seems to be never-ending down that way. Flooding, tornadoes…the rain keeps on keeping on. When a system gets squeezed between high pressure systems and stuck in on place and seemingly unable to move – or at least travel along very slowly like what’s going on down there now, nothing good usually comes of the situation. Texas and Louisiana especially are being hit hard with excessive precipitation. We really are lucky where we’re at. And I can’t stress that enough. Consider yourself fortunate if you’re in the SW section of Michigan. We do seem to be able to elude most of the ugliness Mother Nature has to play around with.

Monday, May 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Here Come Some 80 Degree Days

Monday, May 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Here Come Some 80 Degree Days

Currently 60 with an average wind from the ESE of 2 mph. Feels like 60 degrees. Dew Point 50, Barometer 30.19 & rising, Humidity 70%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:17 am, Sunset 9:00 pm.

Partly cloudy today with a high of 77. S winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low about 55 degrees. SSE winds 5 -10 mph.

Okay – some rain, maybe a thunderstorm or two about Wednesday, but then we’re looking at 80 degree days this week. Could even sneak into the upper 80s. This is me, being thrilled! My kind of weather. Finally. As for the air…pollen count is very high today. Those trees we love so much are not playing nice. Just know if you suffer from allergies of this particular variety, you might encounter some issues.  The rain coming on Wednesday will, without a doubt, cleanse the air for a bit, but it is that time of year. Outdoor love/hate conditions with nature.

Sunday, May 16, 2021-SW Michigan-80 Degree Days Coming This Week

Sunday, May 16, 2021-SW Michigan-80 Degree Days Coming This Week

Currently 55 with an average wind from the ESE of 1 mph. Feels like 55 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 30.22, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:18 am, Sunset 8:59 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain until midday. High around 70. S winds around 10 mph becoming SW with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 40s. Light winds.

There are some days of 80 degrees coming later this week. Of course it will immediately drop down to the 60s, losing about 20 degrees, putting us back into the 70s next week, but hey…we’re take what we can get. I’m thrilled to think about it warming up, even briefly, to the 80s. I’m going to be loving that. Today is much chillier than I would have hoped for, but I guess we’ll get through it as long as we’re heading to more comfortable days. In the meantime, it’s a cloudy Sunday with a chill feel to it.

Saturday, May 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Catch Some Rain Today/Tonight

Saturday, May 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Could Catch Some Rain Today/Tonight

Currently 56 with an average wind from the ENE of 2 mph. Feels like 56 degrees. Dew Point 41, Barometer 30.24 & falling, Humidity 56%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:19 am, Sunset 8:58 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon. High in the upper 60s. S winds around 10 mph becoming SW in the afternoon with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight rain. Low around 50. S winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening becoming light.

Okay, so today and tonight might turn out to be a bit soggy but tomorrow is promising us partly sunny skies, so grab an umbrella that you might or might not need and save tomorrow for better things. Starting out with a high pollen count this morning but it’s expected to lower during the day because of the humidity rising, no strong winds to blow misery your way and probably evening rain that will wash a lot of the pollen out of the air. For folks with allergies, we’re well aware of the days harboring high pollen counts. Just part of getting on with getting on, I reckon. But again, tomorrow will be better.

Friday, May 14, 2021-SW Michigan-The End Of Frosty Nights

Friday, May 14, 2021-SW Michigan-The End Of Frosty Nights

Currently 53 with an average wind from the NE of 1 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 30.34 & rising, Humidity 59%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:20 am, Sunset 8:57 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the lower 70s. W winds 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the mid 40s. Light winds.

Finally, the end of the frosty nights. Hopefully what ever hasn’t been damaged by the cold system that overwhelmed everything will at last be able to grab hold of Spring and continue to grow and flourish. Don’t see any more temperatures falling into the 30s now for awhile. We spent way too long dealing with this unfriendly weather. Time to get serious about warming up – and staying warmed up. Daytime temperatures in the 70s and nights in the 50s? Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? Flowers blooming, grass growing – well in most places, anyway. Here in my little backyard there is a maniac with a lawn mower who visits far too often with the blade of his mower evidently set at grass root level. So any greenery daring an attempt to grow back there is doomed to a brief life and a quick death. Nothing I can do about it but mourn the foolishness of it all.  And appreciate other folk’s lawns. Which I do.

Thursday, May 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Temperatures At Last On The Way Back Up

Thursday, May 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Temperatures At Last On The Way Back Up

Currently 49 with an average wind from the S of 1 mph. Feels like 49 degrees. Dew point 33, Barometer 30.44 & rising, Humidity 55%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:21 am, Sunset 8:56 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 60s. Light winds becoming W around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Clear overnight skies. Low around 40. W winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Okay…we seem to have come through the tunnel into the light of warmer temperatures. We made it. Not yet tonight, but looking at a week ahead of 50+ degree nights. Windows open, fresh air in. Can’t wait! Things are looking up- like the temperatures. Still below temperatures over the southern part of the nation, but in spite of the fact that they are shivering – for the south – they aren’t getting so much of the violent severe weather that could be visiting them by now. So I guess it’s a trade-off. Here we seem to be about as lucky as we can get involving severe weather. No crazy tornado season, no hurricane season…we’re been fairly fortunate regarding droughts, floods…all in all we appear to be rather a sheltered spot on the planet. And it’s appreciated.  For now we’re looking at a week ahead of daytime temps in the 70s and nights in the 50s. About perfect, I’d say.

Wednesday, May 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Just Look At All That Sunshine

Wednesday, May 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Just Look At All That Sunshine

Currently 53 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 30.48 & rising, Humidity 44%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise  6:22 am, Sunset 8:55 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 60s. Light winds becoming NW of 5 – 10 mph in the afternoon.

Clear with the chance of widespread overnight frost. Low in the mid 30s. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

So, even though the powers that be are tossing in the frost word for one more night, I don’t buy it. Seems to be a notion that somebody doesn’t want to move past. No…I think the frost is mostly gone and looking ahead I see a week of delightful 70 degree days. Color me happy – and the sky mostly blue. Finally. A little rain along the way about the beginning of next week seems to be in our picture for now but we won’t be bothered by that long as the temperatures stay up where they belong. And they should.
