So far it’s nothing but a gloomy day. However, the promise of a messy afternoon is out there waiting to move in. We’ve dodged the bullet so many times it’s hard to put too much faith in this, but we’re bound to hit the bullseye at some point. Maybe this time? I guess when we wake up in the morning we’ll find out.

Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020-South West Michigan-A Snowy Weekend For Us

Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020-South West Michigan-A Snowy Weekend For Us

Currently 22 with an average wind from the ENE of 9 mph. Feels like 11 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.14 & falling, Humidity 78%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 6:03 pm.

Mostly cloudy tonight. Low 23. SS Winds 5- 10 mph.

Woke to snow frosted trees and bushes. A good couple of inches of snow fell during the night. Looks like more coming tomorrow. With nothing scheduled – as of now – for the rest of the week, hopefully most of this will be out of the way in no time. However, I’m giving it some thought, I’m almost sure more snow will show up sooner rather than later. A likely this coming week will include some of it. Still and all, even with this snowy weekend, we’re doing just fine for Michigan in the month of February.

Friday, Feb. 7, 2020-South West Michigan-Not Much More Than Clouds Today

Friday, Feb. 7, 2020-South West Michigan-Not Much More Than Clouds Today

Currently 23 with an average wind from the NW of 5 mph. Feels like 17 mph. Dew Point 19, Barometer 29.67 & rising, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 6:02 pm.

Mostly cloudy today. High 33. NW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Main cloudy overnight. Low 16. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Not a very pleasant day today but on the other hand, it isn’t snowing. At this time of year, in Michigan, that’s saying a lot. I don’t believe I got much over about 1/2″ of snow from the last winter storm system to dash across the country. Appreciated.  Somehow I just can’t help but wonder how long this is going to go on, our un-wintry weather. I’m sure I’m not alone feeling slightly on edge, waiting for the reality of an actual winter to smack us down. Seems bound to happen. Day by day. I guess.  Day by day. We’ll wait.

Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020-South West Michigan-Light Dusting Of Snow So Far

Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020-South West Michigan-Light Dusting Of Snow So Far

Currently 24 with an average wind from the NNE of 6 mph. Feels like 16 mph. Dew Point 16, Barometer 29.74 & falling, Humidity 71%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 6:00 pm. 70% chance of occasional snow showers. High 29. NNE winds 10 -15 mph.

40% chance of snow showers becoming mostly cloudy. Low 22. NNE winds 5 -10 mph.

I reckon the glancing blow I was expecting from the latest storm system, like luckily so many others this year, slid off into another direction, never quite settling in here. No complaints. We may get more light snow during the day today, but nothing significant. In fact, nothing of note is forecast for us. Perhaps some snow next Sunday, maybe next week about this time, but as of now, this seems to be the pattern. And again, as of now, none of it indicating anything heavy or severe. Could this actually be the entire picture of our winter? Continuing along these same lines? So far it has been. An unusual winter for us.

Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020-South West Michigan-Some Snow Coming Our Way

Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020-South West Michigan-Some Snow Coming Our Way

Currently 21 with an average wind from the E of 8 mph. Feels like 11 degrees. Dew Point 12, Barometer 30.24, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 5:59 pm.

A mix of morning sun and clouds will give way to afternoon cloudiness.  High near 30. ENE winds 5 – 10mph.

50% chance of snow. Low 24. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Looks like we might get a glancing blow from Winter Storm Kade as it moves across the country from the south right on up through the north east tip of our states. At the moment, if the path stays true, we aren’t in for much, for which we’re grateful.  Currently looks to be the 1-3″ snow coverage for us. That Jet Stream we were counting on staying to the north took a massive dip deep into the country allowing plenty of cold air and wintry conditions to spill out. To the south, this storm system will bring severe weather of a different kind. Looks to be a big stretch of the country will get at least a small share of Winter Storm Kade.

Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020-South West Michigan-Changeable Weather Predicted

Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020-South West Michigan-Changeable Weather Predicted

Currently 33 with an average wind from the NNE of 12 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.05 & rising, Humidity 66 %, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:57 pm.

Mainly cloudy today. A few peeks of sunshine possible. Temperatures holding steady in the mid 30s. N winds 10 -15 mph.

Cloudy. Low near 28. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Okay, so Mother Nature took a good look around and was surprised to see she’d given us a couple of days of sunshine in a row. In February. “Well, can’t have that, can we?” No, of course we can’t. So peering ahead I now see, sprinkled in here and there, nasty words like Freezing Drizzle and Frozen Mix. So, are we surprised? No, can’t say that we are. Appreciative of what we get that’s good, resigned to the bad we almost have to expect. Are we happy? No. Snow is one thing. And we here in Michigan can pretty much handle that, but the freezing drizzle, ice, sleet punishment we, none of us, handle well. Skill is one thing, luck another. And skill is rarely the deciding factor in getting through a day of freezing drizzle. We’ll see how it goes. The weather can, as we’ve seen time and time again, change rapidly.

Monday, Feb. 3, 2020-South West Michigan-It’s Official. She’s Baaaccck!

So, thanks to a wonderful techie wizard or two, my issues with this website seem to have been resolved so I’m evidently free to post to my little heart’s content. And so I shall.

Even that well-respected Groundhog has contributed to my forecasting-such as it is. He has officially predicted and upheld my feeling that we’re in for an early spring. Of course, I – and that Groundhog, for that matter – have been known to be wrong before, but I’m sticking to it. I feel confident that this year when I make my annual announcement and say, “March Could Be Nice.” it will actually happen. it will, indeed, be nice. And Spring? My favorite season? We could actually HAVE a Spring. A nice one. I’m pinning my hopes on that thought.

In the meantime, it’s a glorious morning full of glorious holes in the clouds allowing peeks at a blue sky full of sunshine.

It’s currently 32 with an average wind from the E of 3 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.86 & rising, Humidity 96%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5:56 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds today with a high around 45. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight with a 30% chance of a few snow flurries. Some drizzle or freezing drizzle possible mixing in. Low near 30. NE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020-South West Michigan-The Rodent Has Spoken!

Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020-South West Michigan-The Rodent Has Spoken!

So, that annual Groundhog visit has left us with a prediction of an early spring. Could I possibly get my hopes up for my favorite month, March, really to be nice??? You know, he may only be a rodent, but seriously, looking at the path that generous Jet Stream is staying on, mainly leaving the colder air up in Canada, it’s a distinct possibility this year. It’s been, basically, a delightful winter thus far, and it does seem to hold out the promise of a great February and, yes, March. This may end up being one of those winters I don’t mind in the least. A rare and wonderful occurrence.

Currently 34 with an average wind from the WSW of 16 mph. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 29.39 & falling, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:55 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high of 46. W winds 15 – 25 mph with higher gusts possible.

A few overnight clouds. Low around 30. WNW winds 10 -20 mph.
