Monday, Jan. 2, 2023-SW Michigan-Very Foggy Morning

Currently 36 with an average wind from the SSW of 1 mph. Feels like 36 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.06 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:19 pm.

Cloudy with areas of dense morning fog. High in the lower 40s. Light winds.

100% chance of rain. Low in the mid 30s. E winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

The Dense Fog Alert has been extended to noon today from a previous 10:00. Got lots of rain coming tonight and tomorrow – along with what will likely be record temperatures tomorrow. Might climb into the low 50s. Not our typical January weather in Michigan. Appreciated, though. Looks as if the temperature around here is going to remain in the 30s for the entire coming week. I’m sure liking this. And we know it won’t last forever. It can’t. Like I said, this is winter in Michigan. We know better than to expect this sort of mild weather for very long.

Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023-SW Michigan-Happy New Year

Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023-SW Michigan-Happy New Year

Currently 36 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:18 pm.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the lower 30s. W winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Starting the year out with light rain – happy it’s nothing more severe. Mild temperatures and rain beats the heck out of what we could be getting today. Look for perhaps some freezing rain to appear around Wednesday. The temperature will take a dip into the 20s on Thursday, but the rest of the week looks to be in the 30s and, so far, dry. Not a bad beginning for 2023. Just be careful of the rain on Tuesday and possible freezing rain on Wednesday.  And Happy New Year! May this be a year we remember as a good one.

Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022-SW Michigan-Rain Likely For New Year’s Eve Night

Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022-SW Michigan-Rain Likely For New Year’s Eve Night

Currently 35 with a calm average wind from the SSW. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 95%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:17 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. Light winds.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight rain. Low in the upper 20s. SW winds around 5 mph becoming S.

Last day of 2022, last day for Christmas decorations to be up for those of us who have trouble tucking them away for a whole year.

Sounds like some rain tonight, hopefully not mixed with anything unpleasant. Likely some rain in the morning on New Year’s Day. We are sure to pay for it in the long run, but this year is ending on a calm note and the new one beginning much the same.

Another hopeful is that somehow this new version is kinder and more normal. Dare I say that? Is there actually a normal left? We can only pray for the possibility.

Friday, Dec. 30, 2022-SW Michigan-Likely To Get Some Rain Today

Friday, Dec. 30, 2022-SW Michigan-Likely To Get Some Rain Today

Currently 47 with an average wind of 4 mph from the SSW. Dew Point 46, Barometer 29.85, Humidity 96%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:16 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of rain showers. high in the upper 40s. SW winds 5-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 20s. Light winds.

It was about 52 degrees outside this morning when I went out to feed the critters. Temperature is slowing falling from that high and will settle on mid to upper 40s today. Other than today, our forecast is only mentioning precipitation for New Year’s Eve – of course – that could include some rain, freezing rain, snow. Not an enormous percentage for all of that, but still a 40% chance for that to happen with temperatures dropping into the upper 20s is worth paying attention to. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and allow the year to bow out without causing any problems for anyone. Plain old rain if precipitation is coming that night would be enough to cope with. We may see another 50 degree number show up about next Tuesday. After that it will drop back down into the 30-degree range for the rest of the week. Not looking bad for the beginning of January.

Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022-SW Michigan-Possible Rain Coming Our Way

Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022-SW Michigan-Possible Rain Coming Our Way

Currently 45 with an average wind from the SSE of 8 mph. Feels like 42 degrees. Dew Point 44, Barometer 29.77, Humidity 95%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:15 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers. Areas of fog. high in the upper 40s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

70% chance of overnight rain showers. Areas of fog. Low in the lower 40s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Not much more than rain on the way for us until perhaps Friday night and Saturday. That will include a chance for possible freezing rain and some snow to enter the picture. Neither one of which we want to see. This doesn’t seem like anything that should stick around as the temperatures are supposed to be fairly decent for the next week or so – in fact, next Tuesday we are looking at numbers in the 50-degree range. This seems to be our ‘January thaw’ arriving a tad early. And hopefully, it will stick around for a while.

Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Some Welcome Sunshine Today

Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Some Welcome Sunshine Today

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 92%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:14 pm.

Partly sunny today with a high in the upper 30s. S winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 20.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Low in the mid 30s. S winds 15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Seeing some blue sky and sunshine is enough to lift anyone’s spirits. And I’d suggest you get out and enjoy it cause the next week looks to have some rain in every single day. Dang! Well, as of now, at least it isn’t snow. Watch out for Saturday as the powers that be are trying to toss some freezing rain into the mix. Let’s hope that doesn’t materialize. In the meantime, today is a definitely a winner.

Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Bit Of Warm Up Coming

Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Bit Of Warm Up Coming

Currently 32 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 17 degrees. Dew Point 22, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:13 pm.

Cloudy. High in the mid 20s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy overnight. Low around 20. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Looks as if 2022 is going out on a pleasant note. Should see some temperature readings in the low 40s. Some rain moving in off and on during the week. Hopefully nothing will go astray and cause any problems for New Years. Plenty enough was given us for Christmas. Do be careful as warming up and rain will likely create slippery conditions to driving and walking.

Monday, Dec. 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance For More Light Snow

Monday, Dec. 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance For More Light Snow

Currently 17 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 17 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 30., Humidity 100%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:13 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of some snow showers. High in the lower 20s. W winds 5-10 mph.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 20% chance of snow showers. Low 10-15 mph. W winds 5-10 mph.

Expecting a bit more snow today, but the next two days – as of right now – appear to have no precipitation involved at all. Perhaps even a peek at the sun on Wednesday. After that the rain starts and looks to be continuing right on past the new year. I’m thinking I’d as soon see some rain and a bit of melting snow instead of the constant snow showers we’ve had lately. So for at least a few days we can put away the snow shovel and haul out the umbrella. Nice to have variety, right?

Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022-SW Michigan-Merry Christmas

Sunday, Dec. 25, 2022-SW Michigan-Merry Christmas

Currently 14 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 2 degrees. Dew Point 14, Barometer 29.79, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.75 mi., Sunrise 8:12 am, Sunset 5:12 pm.

70% chance of snow. Little or no accumulation. High 15-20. W winds 10-20 with gusts to 30.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight snow. Low 10-15 mph. W winds 5-15 mph.

Chilly yet with some additional light snow, but we’ve come through the worst of it heading to better weather. By the end of the week we should be in the 40s with rain. Can you believe it? Looking forward to it. In the meantime, enjoy the day, keep warm and have a Merry Christmas.

Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022-SW Michigan-Blizzard Warning Still In Effect

Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022-SW Michigan-Blizzard Warning Still In Effect

Currently 13 with an average wind from the SSW of 7 mph. Feels like 4 degrees. Dew Point 13, Barometer 29.58, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.75 mi., Sunrise 8:11 am., Sunset 5:11 pm.

Blizzard Warning still in effect until 7:00 this evening

Blustery with areas of blowing snow. Snow accumulation 1-2″ expected. High near 15. W winds 20-25 mph with gusts to 40. Wind chill readings to -10.

70% chance of overnight snow with areas of patchy blowing snow likely. 1″ possible. Low 10-15/ W winds 10-15 with gusts to around 35 mph.

Still very cold when that wind hits you with the occasional blowing snow reminding us that blizzard warnings are still in effect. My area did not get the worst of the worst that had been expected. Yes, it’s cold and yes it’s windy. But not all that much snow – impossible to tell how much because it’s blowing around. Expect more snow tomorrow and probably Monday, but then appears as if a brief warmup will be settling in. Personally, I can hardly wait. Even though things didn’t get as bad as expected around here, it’s been bad enough to make things truly uncomfortable. Looking forward to some warmer air. Anything in the 40s is going to feel balmy.
