Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7:00 pm Thursday. 3-5″ with 35 mph winds.

As of yesterday, this snow wasn’t supposed to start until later today. Wrong! Been snow showering every since I got up this morning.  At least the total snow prediction from this particular system has been lowered. A few days ago it was sounding downright ferocious. Any snow is dangerous when our roads get covered, but lots of inches less than forecast to be shoveling isn’t a bad thing. We could see a peek of the sun on Friday – this sounds like the only opportunity, so if it happens, enjoy it. I know I will.

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024-SW Michigan-Snow On The Way

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024-SW Michigan-Snow On The Way

Currently 37 with an average wind from the WNW of 1 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.86, Humidity 86%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Winter Storm Watch in effect from 7:00 am Wednesday through 7:00 pm Thursday. 3-6″ of snow, strong winds expected.

Cloudy with a 20% chance of afternoon rain. High in the upper 30s. Light winds.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low in the upper 20s. W winds 5-10 mph.

Looks like a storm system heading out way. My little area seems to escape the big snows – or has so far – but we won’t be able to get around the cold temperatures coming along with it. Thursday will be downright cold. Friday will warm up a tad and take us back into what we can call comfortable this time of year by the weekend. The snow will likely transition over to rain for the weekend. At any rate, not many dry days ahead for us. Just pay attention to the weather and keep your winter caution on hand.

Monday, Dec. 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Drizzle Rain This Morning

Monday, Dec. 9, 2024-SW Michigan-Drizzle Rain This Morning

Currently 46 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 46, Barometer 29.02, Humidity 100%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:07 pm

Cloudy with a 50% chance of morning rain with a partly cloudy afternoon. High in the mid 40s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 30s. W winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Rather dreary weather for a while. Look for snow showers through Thursday with so far what looks like a dry day on Friday. The weekend isn’t looking good as far as dry weather, in fact Saturday may bring us that dread frozen mix stuff. Just a messy batch of weather for us right now.

Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024-SW Michigan-Some Welcome Sunshine

Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024-SW Michigan-Some Welcome Sunshine

Currently 43 with an average wind from the S of 1 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Partly cloudy with a high in the mid 40s.  Light winds becoming S 5 mph in the afternoon.

70% chance of overnight rain showers. Low in the mid 30s. SE winds 5-10 mph.

A nice break in the clouds allowing that bright sunshine to pour down on us. Temperature is in a comfortable zone right now, too. Both more than welcome. Look for some rain or snow showers off and on all next week. So far nothing drastic in the picture – could change but not seeing it at present. Just enjoy this lovely day for now.

Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024-SW Michigan-Not As Chilly But Still Cloudy

Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024-SW Michigan-Not As Chilly But Still Cloudy

Currently 30 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 26, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high round 40. SW winds 5-15 mph increasing to 15-25 with gusts to 30 in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy with an overnight low around 30. SW winds 15-20 becoming W  5-15 mph in the afternoon.

Not nearly as chilly as it’s been but every bit as gloomy and sunless. Most days in the coming week will be in the comfortable range – if one can consider somewhere in the 30 degrees comfortable. Only one chilly day supposedly in the forecast, probably around Thursday when it might dip down into the 20s. Either rain or snow showers could put in an appearance most days. Nothing drastic, but dreary. That’s okay, we don’t have to shovel dreary.

Friday, Dec. 6, 2024-SW Michigan-Prepare For Welcome Warm Up

Friday, Dec. 6, 2024-SW Michigan-Prepare For Welcome Warm Up

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 30.22, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of afternoon snow showers. High in the upper 20s, W winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy with an overnight low in the lower 20s. W winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening becoming light.

Not much chance for precipitation until Sunday night, which then will be rain as our temperatures will have risen considerably. The rain will last though Monday and transition into snow for the next two days. But no severe cold in the forecast for the present. Not an unwelcome turn of events for most of us.  By the end of next week we’ll see a few pretty cold days again, but in the meantime, enjoy the break from the harsh chill while we have it going for us.

Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Warning Continues

Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024-SW Michigan-Winter Storm Warning Continues

Currently 21 with an average wind from the WSW of 12 mph. Feels like 10 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.6 mi, Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Partly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight snow. Low 15-20. NW winds 10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Winter Storm Warning continues until Friday 1 am.

Yesterday’s drive home from work was a scary situation for many people.  Heavy snow, wind, hail and even lightening thrown in for fun. This storm is not to be taken lightly. Be careful diving today, tonight, in the morning. Road crews will be doing their best for you but you need to take responsibility for what you’re doing out there. Lots of folk without power right now because of the high winds. Better conditions coming Friday through Sunday. We might even see our temperatures sneaking into the 40 degrees Sunday and Monday. That won’t last either, but it will be a welcome change from what we’re dealing with now.

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024-SW Michigan-Blustery Weather

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024-SW Michigan-Blustery Weather

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.64, Humidity 96%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Winter Storm Warning in effect from 5:00 pm today through 1:00 am Friday. Heavy snow and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches with locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.

100% chance of snow showers. 1-2″ likely. SW winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 35.

100% chance of snow showers. Possible heavy snow showers. Snow accumulation 2-4″ possible. NW winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 45.

This morning is not bad but things will go downhill later today through tomorrow. Very windy conditions expected. Possible heavy lake effect snow will follow the clipper system snow that starts it all off. This afternoon and evening might be bad enough but tomorrow could be ferocious. If you must be out driving, please be careful. Depending on how much of this predicted snow we get will be made more dangerous by high winds. This is not going to be a fun couple of days.

Tuesday, Dec. 3 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly With Possible Flurries

Tuesday, Dec. 3 2024-SW Michigan-Chilly With Possible Flurries

Currently 27 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.4, Humidity 86%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the lower 30s. SW winds 5=10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low in the mid 20s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Not too bad as winter days in early December go. I am assuming it will be getting worse the next few days, but we’ll take what we get. Perhaps a brief clearing of clouds on Friday and maybe Sunday. These won’t be all day events even if they do happen. Mostly we’re looking at the opportunity for some snow most days. My area hasn’t been the host for any of the lake effect snow so far, and hopefully won’t be. No guarantees though so our best bet is to simply be ready for whatever comes our way. That’s actually what it takes to survive Michigan winters, so most of us are equipped with what we need – if not going so far as to an appreciative attitude. No sense in trying for the impossible for those of us unable to see much joy in winter weather.

Monday, Dec. 2, 2024-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Welcome Sunshine

Monday, Dec. 2, 2024-SW Michigan-A Bit Of Welcome Sunshine

Currently  31 with an average wind from the SSE of 1 mph. Feels like 31 degrees.  Dew Point 27, Barometer 30.25, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the lower 30s. W winds around 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers becoming  partly cloudy overnight. Low in the lower 20s. Light winds.

Some more than welcome breaks in the clouds this morning. Do you see that blue sky out there? What a lovely color. Of course it gets to the point where any color is a lovely color when we’re dealing with all our overcast winter skies. However, today is offering us some brightness and we’ll take it, happily. We seem to be looking at the chance for snow most days this coming week. I’d say especially Wednesday, along with some wind. Bundle up.
