Currently 27 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 30.2, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:47 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the mid 20. W winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly clear with a low 15-20. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Not overly warm today but the sunshine makes it feel better than it is. This coming week, however, brings us a lot of days in the 30 degree range. Might be some snow mixed in here and there, but hey…30 degrees. We’ll take it.

Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025-SW Michigan- Finally A Bit Of Warmth For Our Day

Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025-SW Michigan- Finally A Bit Of Warmth For Our Day

Currently 23 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 18. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:45 pm.

Partly sunny with a 20% chance of afternoon snow showers. High in the lower 30s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low 15-20 with gusts to around 30.

What a difference – feels fairly balmy out there this morning. Well, maybe not quite, but much better than the close to zero mornings we just lived through. Looking ahead, it would appear as if a good scattering of 30 degree days will be ours for a bit. Might be dropping back into the 20s here and there along the way but still…Getting close to the end of January which, for me, only leaves one really tough month to get through. February. Short but cruel as a general rule and then we’ll be into March. And March Could Be Nice. We’ll see how it goes this year. In the meantime, enjoy the 30 degrees while we have it.

Friday, Jan. 24, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Cold and Snowy

Friday, Jan. 24, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Cold and Snowy

Currently 18 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 13, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 83%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:44 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of snow showers until about midday. High around 20. SW winds around 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers. Low near 10. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Not much to say except it’s just keeping on keeping on. There is the chance for tomorrow of seeing a 30 degree day. Of course it could still come with a chance for more snow showers, but hey…at least it will be a tad warmer. Looks like a lot of 20 degree days coming up – but peering way, way ahead to the week after next – right now it could bring us more 30 degree days to break up the monotony,  We shall see how it goes. In the meantime we’re stuck with cold and snow showers for what seems to be about ever. January in Michigan. Me? I’m looking forward to spring like your wouldn’t believe.

Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025-SW Michigan-Warmed Up A Bit

Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025-SW Michigan-Warmed Up A Bit

Currently 19 with an average wind from the WNW of 9 mph. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 86%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:43 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the mid 20s. NW winds 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight snow showers. Low near 10. NW winds around 10 mph becoming light.

Well, it’s not exactly balmy but it is at least in the 20s. This, compared to what we’ve just been through, is quite an improvement. We could see a 30 degree day on Saturday – of course, it will also bring with it another chance for more snow showers, but we can’t have it all.  And in spite of it all, we are much more prepared for the cold and snow than the deep south states that have been hammered by Winter Storm Enzo. Rare snowfall in Florida, heavy snow in Louisiana and Texas…so many states shut down due to what we would consider our usual winter weather. Not usual for the deep south, but they’re getting a share right now anyway. Hope they all stay safe and made memories – because chances are they won’t see this happen again, perhaps not in their lifetime. Where we, on the other hand and unfortunately, will see plenty more of it before spring comes along to bring us much needed relief.

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Beastly Cold

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Beastly Cold

Currently 1 degree with an average wind from the SSE of 4 degrees. Feels like -13 degrees. Dew Point -3, Barometer  30.15, Humidity 74%, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:42 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Areas of blowing snow possible.  High around 20. S winds 10-25 with Wind Chill Readings as low as -21 until midday.

90% chance of overnight snow showers. 1-3″ possible. Low near 15. SW winds 5-16 mph with gusts to 25.

Still a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Thursday.

This remains a brutal stretch of weather. Bitterly cold and snow showers simply keep on showing up. And they will, off and on for a while. Looking way ahead, we could actually see a 30 degree day coming our way next week. But first we have to get through this weather mess. More lake effect snow combined with a clipper system streaming through  over the lake water absolutely guarantees we’ll be seeing a few more inches of snow. Personally, I’m good and sick of shoveling and I don’t even have to do all that much. Any is too much in my book.

As unhappy as I am with our weather, can’t imagine how folks must feel in the deep south – as south as some beaches of Florida – about the cold and snow they got from Winter Storm Enzo. This is a lifetime event for people and they likely won’t be seeing anything like this again. The system is working it’s way to the coast and on out, but for the time being, things are shut down due to snow and ice in place that shouldn’t be affected by any of it. Hoping everyone stays safe. At least they know they’ll be out of it all in a while. We, on the other hand, are stuck with this for some time to come. And we definitely will be seeing more of it over time.  Spring seems SO far away this winter.

Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025-SW Michigan-Stuck In Cold Snowy Weather

Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025-SW Michigan-Stuck In Cold Snowy Weather

Currently 3 degrees with an average wind from the WSW of 3 mph. Feels like 3 degrees. Dew Point 2, Barometer 30.38, Humidity 97%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:40 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory until 7:00 tonight. Cold Weather Advisory in effect until Wednesday 12:00 pm. Wind chill readings to as low as -25 degrees.

100% chance of snow showers. Another 1″ or less expected. High 5-10. W winds 5-15 with wind chill readings to -15 degrees.

50% chance of overnight snow showers. Low near 5 below. Wind chill reading as low as -21 below zero. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

This is simply downright cold. It’s brutal outside this morning. Yesterday and today, first thing looking out the window into this bitter cold air it looks as if the air itself is pale white. Like every molecule of air is coated with ice. Very strange. And getting out into it to feed the birds and critters? Uncomfortable is putting it mildly. Bundled up even with a face covering, shoveling the overnight snow for a path out to where I feed the birds and critters was not fun.

We may be slowly coming out of this on Wednesday – nothing quick mind you, but a bit higher and warmer than we are right now. We’ll still be no warmer than in the 20s all week. This is sheer winter, no question about. Be careful out there. Doesn’t take long for your skin to be damaged by this kind of cold. I’m thinking we’re really going to be grateful by the time spring rolls around this year.

Monday, Jan. 20, 2025-SW Michigan-Bad As Today Is, Tomorrow Worse

Monday, Jan. 20, 2025-SW Michigan-Bad As Today Is, Tomorrow Worse

Currently 5 degrees with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like -6 degrees. Dew Point 6, Barometer 30.29, Humidity 98%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:39 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until noon on Wednesday. 3-5″ snow possible. Dangerous cold wind chills as low as -24 degrees. This gives you, max, about 30 minutes before your skin isn’t damaged by frostbite.

100% chance of snow showers. 1-2″ possible. High 5-10. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25. Wind Chill Reading as low as -15 degrees.

90% chance of snow showers. 1-3″ possible. Low near -5 below. W winds 5-16 mph. Wind Chill Readings to as low as -18 below degrees.

This is bitter, brutal cold weather. If you absolutely have to be outside, please take precautions against damage to your skin. Better yet, stay inside or severely limit your exposure outside. And as cold as today is, tomorrow promises to be even worse. Be careful, folks. This weather is nothing to fool around with. By Thursday we should see the light at the end of the tunnel and be way, way up to the 20s – which will seem comfortable in comparison. Wednesday is still going to be too darn cold, but not quite as brutal as today and tomorrow. Take care of yourself, your pets and anyone you think might be in trouble and need help to live through this weather.

Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025-SW Michigan-Brutal Weather Setting In

Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025-SW Michigan-Brutal Weather Setting In

Currently 12 with an average wind from the WNW of 3 mph. Feels like 7 degrees. Dew Point 6, Barometer 30.07, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:38 pm.

70% chance of snow showers. 1″ or less expected. High  near 15. NW winds 5-15 mph.

70% chance of overnight snow showers. 1-3″ expected. Low zero to 5 above. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 25. Wind chill readings as low as -3 to -13 below zero.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4:00 pm Sunday through 7:00 pm Tuesday. 3-5″ of snow. Wind chill readings from -15 to -25 below zero range.

If you absolutely have to be out and about over the next several days, please be careful. Try to stay as warm as possible and take precautions against frostbite which, in the temperatures we’re expecting, won’t take long to damage your skin. By next Wednesday, the worst of this will be over and we will be back, at least, into the 20 degree range. That will seem almost balmy by comparison. Not much to say about this Siberian air mass coming to us through Canada beyond the fact that we could jolly well live without it – and hopefully can live through it.

Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025-SW Michigan-Atrocious Weather On The Way

Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025-SW Michigan-Atrocious Weather On The Way

Currently 28 with an average wind from the NNW of 10 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer  29.77, Humidity 59%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:36 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of snow showers. High near 30. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of snow showers. Low near 10. N winds 5-10 mph.

There is no sugar coating the weather taking aim at us. It’s going to be brutal cold by Tuesday and there is a chance of snow off and on most days. Ordinarily I’d say this is a good time to be in one of the southern states. However, this frigid air is going to be spilling down as far as the gulf coast in places. At least we’re more prepared for cold and snow than the absolute south states- supposedly. Not that it’s going to make things any better. All we can do is be prepared. Seriously. Take all precautions with what you are wearing, the safety measures you have with you in your car, the time spent outside courting frostbite. Thinking spring isn’t really going to be all that helpful during this weather ordeal, better to be spending your time in trying to stay safe.

Friday, Jan. 17, 2025-SW Michigan-Couple Decent Days Before Deep Freeze

Friday, Jan. 17, 2025-SW Michigan-Couple Decent Days Before Deep Freeze

Currently 28 with an average wind from the SE of 6 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 29.79, Humidity 83%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:35 pm.

Cloudy becoming mostly sunny with a high in the upper 30s. S winds 10-20 with gusts to around 40.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain and snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 30 becoming NW 5-15 mph.

Today will be a good day to get out and about. Maybe tomorrow. After that? I’d plan on staying in and staying warm. Monday and Tuesday will be wicked cold with Siberian air coming down to us through Canada. Look for some snow chances during next week – as of now, nothing big or harsh. And after Tuesday it will be a tad warmer. Thankful for that!
