Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024-SW Michigan-All Day Long Fog

Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024-SW Michigan-All Day Long Fog

Currently 37 with a 2 mph wind from the E. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.41 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:45 pm.

Dense Fog Alert Until 10:00 PM.

Cloudy. Widespread fog through the day. 30% chance of afternoon rain. High in the upper 30s. E winds 5-10 mph.

100% chance of overnight rain. Areas of fog. Low in the mid 30s. NE winds 5-15 mph.

Should be getting used to the foggy days. Seems to be what we end up with as we transition from harsh weather to some that’s not quite a wintry. At least with the temperature as high as it is, it’s not a freezing fog which can be deadly. We just have to take it slow and easy and keep an eye out for places where the fog thickens limiting visibility. After Friday, the precipitation should cease until around next Tuesday. Even at that, if things stay the way they are predicted that could be a one of thing and back into more dry days. Fingers crossed.

Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024-SW Michigan-Clouds, Rain And Fog For Us

Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024-SW Michigan-Clouds, Rain And Fog For Us

Currently 36 with a 3 mph wind from the ESE. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 30.18, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.5 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:44 pm.

100% chance of rain. Widespread fog and dense freezing rain possible. High in the upper 30s. L winds becoming E 5-10 mph in the afternoon.

Cloudy tonight with a 30% chance of rain. Widespread dense fog. Low in the mid 30s. Light winds.

Not a hint of sunshine today. Rain very likely, which as long as the temperatures stay over freezing, should help get rid of some of the snow. There’s still plenty of it to get rid of. Haven’t seen much fog around my area but I understand it’s dense in other places. Just be careful out there. Looks like drier days coming up all with temperatures around the lower 30s. Long as no more snow is in the picture – and it isn’t for the foreseeable future – things are improving.

Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Stuck With Messy Weather

Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024-SW Michigan-Stuck With Messy Weather

Currently 34 with a 3 mph wind from the SE. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 100%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrie 8:06 am, Sunset 5:43 pm.

100% chance of rain and snow mix. Areas of fog, freezing rain and sleet. High in the mid 30s. E winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight rain possibly mixed with freezing rain. Widespread fog. Low in the lower 30s. SE winds around 10 mph.

Well, winter couldn’t possibly just move on without causing a mess. And we’ve got just that. A mess. Fog, freezing rain, sleet, wet snow…got everything but sunshine – and that’s sure not going to happen anytime soon. We simply have to get through this and the days will get better. Be safe – drive and walk carefully.

Monday, Jan. 22, 2024-SW Michigan-Lousy Weather Continues Just In A Different Form

Monday, Jan. 22, 2024-SW Michigan-Lousy Weather Continues Just In A Different Form

Currently 25 with a 4 mph wind from the SW. Feels like 10 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 30.23, Humidity 88%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:42 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory from Tuesday 1 am until 4 pm.

90% chance of early snow then possibly mixed with rain sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon. High in the lower 30s. SW winds 15-20 with gusts to 30 mph.

90% chance of light freezing rain possibly mixed with freezing rain snow and sleet overnight. Ice accumulation up to one tenth of an inch possible. Low in the lower 30s. SW winds 5-15 mph.

Well, this is a fine mess…we get rid of one form of rotten weather and move right on into another one. This one possibly more dangerous as it involves ice. In other words, starting off this week on a negative note. If we can just get past this couple of days we’ll get into plain old rain with upper 30 degree temperatures. Not ideal, but not scary either. Maybe uncomfortable but not necessarily dangerous. Please be careful today and tomorrow. Not sure how icy things will get but even a little bit is bad for driving or walking.

Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024-SW Michigan-A Bit Better Today

Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024-SW Michigan-A Bit Better Today

Currently 23 with a 5 mph wind from the WSW. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 14, Barometer 30.55, Humidity 76%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:07 am, Sunset 5:40 pm.

Partly sunny in the morning becoming mostly sunny. High in the lower 20s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy tonight with a low 10-15. S winds 10-20 mph.

Looking better out there today. Some sun peeking through is such a welcome sight. Makes it feel a tad warmer than it is. Digging out of the brutal cold and snow is, of course, going to put us smack dab into the mixed mess – the wintry mix that usually leaves us with some ice to deal with. We all know it couldn’t be as easy as cold into warm. That’s not what Michigan is all about. We’re used to dealing with a variety of messy weather. This coming week will give us some of that variety, I think. Just pay attention.

Saturday, Jan. 20. 2024-SW Michigan-Nearing The End Of Bitter Cold

Saturday, Jan. 20. 2024-SW Michigan-Nearing The End Of Bitter Cold

Currently 12 with a 1 mph from the WSW. Feels like 0 degrees. Dew Point 12, Barometer 30.35, Humidity 88%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:39 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers. High in the low 20s. NW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25. Wind Chill as low as minus 13.

Mostly cloudy. Low 5-10 above. NW winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Last night was the coldest of our cold nights lately. That should be the end of it. Not  that we’re going to be zooming into anything balmy, but it won’t be as brutal as it’s been. Next week we’re looking at that messy wintry mix stuff that’s never good – or safe.  The best part is that some of this snow should be melting away. We’re lucky that Winter Storm Indigo gave us a pass. What we have been – and continue to be – dealing with is the lake effect snow. And even at that we’re, in my area, much luckier than so many others who get slammed by the lake effect stuff. We continue, as miserable as it’s been here lately, to be in a sort of cushioned spot with the worst of the weather going to the north, south, east and west of us. May it continue to be so.

Friday, Jan. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Watch For Bitter Cold Temperature Tonight

Friday, Jan. 19, 2024-SW Michigan-Watch For Bitter Cold Temperature Tonight

Currently 18 with a 4 mph wind from the ENE. Feels like 5 mph. Dew Point 15, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 92%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 8:08 am, Sunset 5:38 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High 15-20. N winds 5-10 with gusts to 20.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of snow. Low near 5 below zero. N winds 10 becoming w overnight. Wind chill readings as low as minus 3 to minus 13.

Its isn’t as if we’re going to wake up to a balmy weather pattern, but you can take heart that tonight will be the bottom we had to hit in order to start going up again. The next few nights will still be miserable cold, but nothing like tonight. And in a few days our weather will warm up considerably over what we’ve been stuck with. Of course, next week’s 30 degrees and chance of rain will bring it’s own issues…probably that wintry mix that makes things dangerous to drive and walk…but at least it won’t feel as scary cold again. We’ve manged to handle this, we can handle whatever comes next. Just stay warm tonight. Going to be wicked cold.

Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Getting Through This Brutal Week

Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024-SW Michigan-Getting Through This Brutal Week

Currently 23 with a 2 mph wind from the WNW. Feels like 16 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 29.99, Humidity 92%, Visibility 2.9 mi., Sunrise 8:09 am, Sunset 5:39 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the mid 20s. SW winds around 10 mph becoming W in the afternoon.

90% chance of overnight snow. 1-2″ possible. Low near 15. NE winds 5-10 mph.

We are getting near the end of this miserable weather. At least the frigid temperatures. By this weekend – next week – they should be a thing of the past. Are we still stuck with all this snow? Yeah, sort of. Should get some rain next week which will have to help melt some of it away. At least, hopefully, off the tree branches that are broken and falling. We need to hang in there for a couple more days. And Friday night should be colder than what we’ve been, but that should be the end of it. And we’re in the last half of January. The Weather Channel is talking about above normal temperatures for February through April. SO looking forward to that.

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Cold Snowy Week Continues

Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024-SW Michigan-Cold Snowy Week Continues

Currently 12 with a 4 mph wind from the SSW. Feels like -6. Dew Point 6, Barometer 29.86, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.6 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:35 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect – again. These Winter Advisories just keep coming at us.

50% chance of snow showers. High 15-20. SW winds 15-25 with gusts to around 35. Wind Chill as low as -14.

70% chance of snow showers. Low 10-15. W winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 30.

This miserable weather just keeps on keeping on. The cold is unrelenting and the snow, even if it manages to come down in light amounts, is still falling down on us. There really is no relief in sight until next week. In the meantime there are so many of us virtually snowed in…it’s too cold to get out there and too much snow to be driving on.  Those who absolutely have to be out and about are driving on slippery roads and in frigid air. There is nothing good to be said about this week’s weather. None.

Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Cold Temps And Lake Effect Snow Continue

Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024-SW Michigan-Cold Temps And Lake Effect Snow Continue

Currently 10 with a 4 mph wind from the WSW. Feels like -8 degrees. Dew Point 10, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 100%, Visibility 1.2 mi., Sunrise 8:10 am, Sunset 5:34 pm.

Winter Weather Advisory Continues until later this afternoon.

80% chance of snow showers. 1″ or less expected. High near 10. W winds 15-20 with gusts to 30. Wind Chill to -12.

70% chance of snow showers. 1″ or less expected. Low 5-10 with gusts to 30. Wind Chill to -3 to -13.

This miserable weather continues. The frigid Arctic air will hang around this week and the Lake Effect Snow will continue to shower us with more snow. Not seeing any more huge amounts of snow being dumped on us for awhile…and it will warm up next week. But getting through this week is a toughie. It’s depressing and uncomfortable. Around my yard, it’s really sad to see that there are branches falling due to the heavy snow that is impossible to remove or lighten. Thankfully, at least so far, it looks as if next week will help lighten the load on the trees and bushes. But in the meantime, they continue to break. This is going to be a mess by the time it’s all over and done.
