Cloudy with a 20% chance of snow showers. Low 15-20.NW winds 5-10 becoming light.

Winter Storm Blair is still an issue and along comes Winter Storm Cora. This one, too will be south of us – even more south than Blair. So far our area has lucked out. No way of telling how long that luck will hold out, but grateful for so far. Looks like perhaps some snow about every other day for us – or not. Depends on which weather station you connect with. None of it shows significant, which is a good thing. One thing for certain is the cold temperature numbers will remain – probably right on through January.

Monday, Jan. 6, 2025-SW Michigan-Might See Peek Of The Sun

Monday, Jan. 6, 2025-SW Michigan-Might See Peek Of The Sun

Currently 19 with an average wind from the SE of 8 mph. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 12, Barometer 30.09, Humidity 97%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:14 am, Sunset 5:23 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the mid 20s. N winds 10-15 mph.

Party cloudy with a high 15-20. NW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

Our cold temperatures are going to be with us very likely through the month of January. Going to feel like winter for sure. Not much showing up in the forecast for snowfall for us. Maybe some on Wednesday, some the end of the week – but so far nothing significant. I reckon we can handle that – especially while watching the mess Winter Storm Blair is dropping on states to the south of us. Now that is significant. Most worrisome is where the ice has taken down tree branches and electric power. The cold we’re experiencing has moved in on those states too. No power with those frigid temperatures? That is plain dangerous. Prayers for all concerned to be able to survive.

Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025-SW Michigan-Get Used To The Cold

Sunday, Jan. 5, 2025-SW Michigan-Get Used To The Cold

Currently 18 with an average wind from the W of 3 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.19, Humidity 91%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 8:14, Sunset 5:21.

Mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers until about midday. High in the mid 20s. NW winds 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy with an overnight low 15-20. NE winds 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Unfortunately, this cold is going to hang around for some time. Looking ahead, this appears to be simply a might chilly month of January for us. No snow to speak of, as of right now, in the near future that looks significant, but the frigid temperatures will be noticeable. Matter of fact, this bitter cold is spilling down through most of the nation. Guess we should just be grateful not to be in the path of Winter Storm BlairĀ  snowfall that’s taken hold of states to the south of us. Happy about that, but not about this brutal cold.

Saturday, Jan 4, 2025-SW Michigan-Bitter Cold Temperatures

Saturday, Jan 4, 2025-SW Michigan-Bitter Cold Temperatures

Currently 21 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 9, Barometer 30.2, Humidity 86%, Visibility 2.8, Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:21 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the lower 20s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy with a low 15-20 with W winds 10-15 with gusts to 25.

Look for a good chance of some snow today, but other than that, what we’re facing is mostly the frigid temperatures. Going to stay downright cold through this week. Perhaps a bit more snow around Wednesday but as of now not looking like much. Cold and wind is what we need to gear up for – quite unlike the states to the south of us facing Winter Storm Blair.

Friday, Jan. 3, 2025-SW Michigan-Area Should Miss Winter Storm Blair

Friday, Jan. 3, 2025-SW Michigan-Area Should Miss Winter Storm Blair

Currently 21 with an average wind from the WSW of 7 mph. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 21, Barometer 30.07, Humidity 96%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:20 pm.

70% chance of snow showers. 1″ or less expected. High in the mid 20s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

40% chance of snow showers. Low 15-20 degrees. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Saturday 1:00 am. Total snowfall up to 4″ expected.

We may be missing the blunt of Winter Storm Blair here and that isn’t making anyone unhappy that I’m aware of. We are stuck with the bitter cold though, no way out of that. And we are getting some lake effect snow but that isn’t going to even come close to holding a candle to Blair. That storm is looking powerful with a variety of heavy snow right on to freezing rain and sleet. Thoughts of safety to those to the south of our state but at the same time grateful for it sliding past us.

Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025-SW Michigan-Cold Stuff Is Coming

Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025-SW Michigan-Cold Stuff Is Coming

Currently 25 with an average wind from the WSW of 3 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 21, Barometer 30.17, Humidity 90%, Visibility 3 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:19 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers. Low in the lower20s. W winds 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Could get a bit more snow today, tonight, perhaps tomorrow. After that, as of right now, it looks like clouds and bitter cold temperatures for us for the next week. Looks very much like the big snowstorm is going to be sliding past to the south of us. Fingers crossed that this will hold up. No way to miss the frigid temperatures though. That much we’ll be in for.

Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025-SW Michigan-New Year’s Day Snow

Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025-SW Michigan-New Year’s Day Snow

Currently 32 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 28. Dew Point 30, Barometer 29.94, Humidity 100%, Visibility 2.1 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:18 pm.

70% chance of snow showers. 1-2″ possible. High in the mid 30s. W winds 5=15 mph with gusts to 25.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of evening snow showers. Low in the lower 20s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

We will be getting some snow today – not a great deal of it, but enough to make the roads slippery. Look for more snow on Friday. We may luck out with this winter storm coming in over the weekend. We will for sure get the arctic cold temperatures and likely the wind, but we may be on the north side of the majority of the snow. Pretty early to tel for sure but that’s what it looks like for now. Fingers are crossed on this. In the meantime, have a safe and happy New Year’s day with the beginning of a terrific year ahead.

Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024-SW Michigan-Likely Some Snow Today Through Tomorrow

Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024-SW Michigan-Likely Some Snow Today Through Tomorrow

Currently 34 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 29.64, Humidity 100%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:18 pm.

90% chance of rain/snow showers. High in the mid 30s. NE winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight snow showers. Low in the lower 30s. NW winds 5-15 mph.

Very possible we’ll see some snow overnight and on in to tomorrow. Perhaps nothing after that until Sunday. But our temperatures will be dropping considerable. Cold from the Polar blast of winter will be moving through here and staying with us well into January. If you’re going to be out and about for New Year’s tonight, do keep an eye on the weather and the road conditions. Better yet, don’t drive. Then you have no problems.

In the meantime, have a Happy New Year. May the weather this coming year to accommodating for everyone – no matter how you want it to fall out.

Monday, Dec. 30, 2024-SW Michigan-Nice Now But…

Monday, Dec. 30, 2024-SW Michigan-Nice Now But…

Currently 37 with an average wind from the SSW of 4 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.72, Humidity 98%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:17 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the lower 40s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Mostly cloudy with 20% chance of freezing rain and snow showers. Low in the lower 30s. Light winds becoming E 5-10 with gusts to 20.

Pleasant temperatures are with us now but don’t look for them to hang around. We’ll be getting some snow probably Tuesday and Wednesday, but the bigger story is the Polar Vortex on it’s way for the beginning of 2025. We could be getting some serious snow over the weekend – the story on exactly where that snow will be falling isn’t set in cement right now – but for sure we’ll be getting wind and very cold temperatures right on through to the middle of January. Winter will descend on us with a vengeance as January takes over. So enjoy today’s warmth – such as it is. It will be gone before we know it.

Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024-SW Michigan-Rainy Sunday For Us

Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024-SW Michigan-Rainy Sunday For Us

Currently 43 with an average wind from the SE of 8 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 41, Barometer 29.68, Humidity 100%, Visibility 2.9 mi., Sunrise 8:13 am, Sunset 5:16 pm.

100% chance of rain. High in the mid 40s. NE winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

100% chance of overnight rain. Low in the mid 30s. NW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

A chilly rain out there this morning and I suspect it will last most of the day and through the night. Look for a break in the precipitation tomorrow with perhaps a peek at the sun. If that happens, I’d take advantage of it ’cause it doesn’t look much like any sunshine for a whole lot of days after that. In fact, beyond clouds, appears as if snow is going to visit at least every other day. We’ll see. But I’m bettingĀ  January is going to prove to be very much different from what our December has been.
