An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, Oct. 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Still Looking Nice For Next Several Days

Currently 37 with an average wind from the NE of 3 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 41, Barometer 30.31, Humidity 100%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:41 am, Sunset 7:20 pm.

Sunny today with patchy frost possible until about midday. High in the mid 60sd. Light winds.

Clear tonight with a low in the upper 30s. Light winds.

Still on track for pleasant days until about Thursday. It does look as if Friday is going to feel more on the wintery side than the beginning of this week. Guess the only thing to do is enjoy the next several days and bundle up for the end of the week.

Hummingbirds seem to be gone and the Finch are rapidly losing their summer color. Soon going to be time to put away the summer birdbath and bring out the heated version. Not yet but getting there. Time for me to be cleaning the garage and getting it ready for winter use after being totally neglected all summer long. I only park in it when the weather appears to be threatening with snow, ice and all that winter misery. Something tells me I’m going to be using it more this winter than last. We’ll see. For now it’s keeping the rake handy, not the snow shovel. Thank goodness for that much.

Currently 61 with an average wind from the ESE of 5 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 46, Barometer 30.29, Humidity 61%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 7:22 pm.

Mostly clear with patchy fog and frost possible overnight. Low in the mid 30s. E winds 5-10 in the evening becoming light.

Today through to about Thursday should be fantastic weather. Look for rain on Thursday and then a drop of about 20 degrees for our Friday. Going to be a downright chilly day. In the meantime, I hope you’re able to be out and about and soaking up these comfortable days when we get them. Today is definitely one.

Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022-SW Michigan-Lovely Fall Weather Continues

Currently 58 with an average wind from the SSE of 5 mph. Feels like 58 degrees. Dew Pont 52, Barometer 30.14, Humidity 82%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:39 am, Sunset 7:23 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 60s. NE winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Mostly clear with a low in the upper 40s. NE winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Can’t really ask for better early Autumn weather than we’re having. Sunny, cool but comfortable, no rain in sight until later next week. This is as good as it gets for the beginning of October. A good time to take care of some of the stuff that needs to be done in the fall. You know, getting ready for the ugliness of winter that follows much too soon after? Yeah, that stuff. Rather too soon for color tours so you might as well make good use of the pleasant days.

Friday, Sept. 30, 2022-SW Michigan-Pleasant Days Continue Right On Into Next Month

Friday, Sept. 30, 2022-SW Michigan-Pleasant Days Continue Right On Into Next Month

Currently 50 with an average wind from the NE of 2 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 47, Barometer 30.27, Humidity 82%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:38 am, Sunset 7:25 pm.

Sunny with a high in the mid 60s. Light and variable winds.

Clear overnight skies with a low in the lower 40s. Light and variable winds.

This comfortable weather should continue right on through the week. Look for a bit of a cooler day on Friday, but otherwise what you see is what you’ll be getting. September is leaving on a pleasant note with October poised to pick up the mantle and run with it along the same path. We are so fortunate here. Watching the aftereffects of Hurricane Ian in Florida is heart wrenching. Such a mess of destruction and such a long, long road ahead for them as they attempt to recover. I may envy their sunshine during our beastly winters, but not enough to want to share the weather that sometimes visits them with disastrous results. I guess I’d rather stay here and gripe about our cold than be down there trying to survive a hurricane.

Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022-SW Michigan-More Sun Today

Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022-SW Michigan-More Sun Today

Currently 46 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 46 degrees. Dew Point 44, Barometer 30.54, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7;38 am, Sunset 7:29 pm.

Partly cloudy today with a high of 62 degrees. Light and variable winds.

A few overnight clouds with a low of 39. Light and variable winds.

A very pleasant week ahead with no rain showing up in our picture – at the moment – until late next week. Should be a good time to be out and about. Here I get to be out there undoing the damage that the lunatic with the leaf blower does around this complex. He gleefully bl0ws dry leaves up around the doors and into the shrubs and then departs. And it’s hard to imagine that anyone is actually paying him for such uselessness. Probably not much is why we are blessed with such incompetence, but still…At any rate, I  and my rake will go out and tidy up around my place until it looks more like it did before he arrived. Such a lot of fun.

Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Cloudy And Cool

Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Cloudy And Cool

Currently 48 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 46, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 96%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:35 am, Sunset 7:29 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the upper 50s. N winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20.

Mostly clear overnight with the possibility of patchy frost. Low in the mid 30s. Light winds.

Chance of some frost tonight. Maybe even tomorrow night. After that our temperatures looks to be hovering in the 40s overnight. But this possibility of overnight frost will become more prevalent before too long. Almost October already. Next week looks to be dry and cool. Not bad for the end of September beginning of October.

All eyes as well as tons of prayers are centered on Florida right now with Hurricane Ian set to slam into the state. Looks to be a very strong storm with the possibility of a tremendous amount of damage before it lumbers along and leaves that area. It’s a strong, but slow moving storm, which will leave them all in harm’s way much longer than they’d like to have happen. After such a relatively calm hurricane season, this one is making up for things in a big way.

Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Cooler But Sunny Weather Coming

Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Cooler But Sunny Weather Coming

Currently 50 with an average wind from the W of 5 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 45, Barometer 29.87, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:34 am, Sunset 7:30 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers. High in the lower 50s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain in the evening. Low in the mid 40s. N winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Chilling down, as is the nature of things nearing the end of September. Looks as if we have a pleasant week ahead with sunny days for the most part. Our nights are cooling off quite a bit now but many of our daytime hours will be in the 60 degree range. Not horrible. But definitely getting into light jacket weather. And we are most assuredly set for a better week ahead than those in Florida with Hurricane Ian set to bear down on them. Hopefully, they’ve got themselves ready or evacuated or whatever is their best chance for survival. Tough time ahead for them, I’m sure of that.

Monday, Sept. 26, 2022-SW Michigan-More Rain Today/Tonight

Monday, Sept. 26, 2022-SW Michigan-More Rain Today/Tonight

Currently 54 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 54 degrees, Dew Point 52, Barometer 29.6, Humidity 93%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:33 am, Sunset 7:32 pm.

70% chance of rain showers and thunderstorms. High in the upper 50s. NW winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 30.

50% chance of overnight rain showers with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Low in the upper 40s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30 possible.

Some rain today right on through early tomorrow but the rest of the week is looking dry and pleasant. Even – as of right now – next weekend, if you can believe it. Might see some 70 degree days later this week, which will be welcome.

After an unusually quiet hurricane season it looks as if conditions are cranking up. Florida seems to be in the cone of the latest, Hurricane Ian. Fluctuations galore but it’s getting to the point where things are beginning to point to a definite route for this storm.  For now, it looks like a strong hurricane building up for future damage. No way to think of that as good news. Hopefully everyone is gearing up and doing what needs to be done to stay as safe as possible.

Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Gray Day

Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022-SW Michigan-Another Gray Day

Currently 59 with an average wind from the WNW of 4 mph. Feels like 59 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 29.6, Humidity 90%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:32 am, Sunset 7:34 pm.

70% chance of rain showers with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. High in the lower 60 degrees. NW winds 5-15 mph becoming 20 mph increasing to 30.

70% chance of rain showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Low around 50. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

So begins our gray season. Mother Nature helps out as much a possible with the changing of the leaves into temporary brilliance, but those soon fade and then we’re well into the colorless part until Spring. Already I’m anxious for that to begin. Going to be a long, long wait for folks like me.

Rain with us until Wednesday this time around.

Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022-SW Michigan-A Cloudy Weekend For Us

Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022-SW Michigan-A Cloudy Weekend For Us

Currently 52 with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 52 degrees. Dew Point 50, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 92%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:31 am, Sunset 7:36 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers. High in the lower 60s. S winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 becoming SW in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy overnight with a 50% chance of rain showers and a slight chance for a thunderstorm. Low in the lower 50s. Light winds,

Here it is that rainy several days predicted. Looks as if it’s going to hang around until about midday on Tuesday. That’s a lot of gloomy days. With the temperature continuing to chill down. Not sure but it does look as if my Hummingbirds have gone. Maybe I’ve just missed seeing them, but I haven’t spotted one of the little beauties for a few days now. So sad. I worry, annually, about the little guys flying off such a long distance and hope they find food along the way. Sure sign of winter’s approach, the joy the little Hummers brought throughout the summer, gone for another year.
