An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Friday, Sept. 23, 2022-SW Michigan-Several Days Of Rain Coming

Currently 42 with an average wind from the ENE of 1 mph. Feels like 42 degrees. Dew Point 43, Barometer 30.2, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:30 am, Sunset 7:38 pm.

Sunny until about midday then becoming partly sunny. High in the lower 60s. Light winds.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain showers overnight. Low in the upper 4os. Light winds.

Looks like a rain system moving our way via Wisconsin and will likely arrive overnight. Rain might continue right on through Tuesday. Long enough for us all to be tired of it, I should imagine. At any rate, good idea to find some inside task or project to occupy yourself with this weekend.

Don’t know about you, but the heat is on in my little nest. When nighttime temperatures drop down into the 30s and 40s, too cold for me. Alas….No more A/C needed for a goodly number of months now. The thing is I could easily do without A/C most of the time but when the heat is needed there is no escape. Up goes the gas bill for sure. Dang! Life in a northern climate.

Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-Cool First Day Of Fall

Mostly clear overnight. Low in the upper 30s. N winds 5-10 mph in the afternoon becoming light.

Yeah…here come the chilly days and even chillier night. Officially Autumn now but we have a cold front, following a previous cold front, to help reinforce our thoughts of colder weather for us from now on. Not leaving us to depend on the calendar. No, indeed. Making it crystal clear our comfortable days are on the wane.  Soon be leaf-peeping and active leaf-raking time and then – no matter how hard some of us try to ignore it – we’ll be in the snow shovel days. Wonder how long it will take me now to turn on the heat. I’m guessing not long.

Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit Of A Stormy Morning, Cooler Weather Coming

Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2022-SW Michigan-A Bit Of A Stormy Morning, Cooler Weather Coming

Currently 76 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 76 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.7, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:28 am, Sunset 7:41 pm.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 50s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

A few peeks at the sun off and on this morning. Some powerful clouds in the meantime. The severe storm seemingly went on by my area with only a bit of rain falling earlier. This is that cold front traveling along, sweeping our warm weather along with it. We may at some point see a 70-degree day or two but for the most part we’re looking at 60-degree days from here on out. Heard this morning that everywhere across the country it will be what amounts to an extended color season. Maybe seeing color well into the end of Oct. Should make for some great photo ops.  Of course, it’s all blamed on climate change, but then again, these days what isn’t?

Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Cold Fall Front On The Way, Weather Changing

Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022-SW Michigan-Cold Fall Front On The Way, Weather Changing

Mostly cloudy with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms today. There is a slight chance for severe weather. High in the upper 70s. SE winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a 40 % chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the upper 60s. S winds 5-10 mph becoming SW 10-15 with gusts to 25.

A strong fall front is set to swoop down on us today, bringing a change in our weather pattern that is very likely set to be with us until it gets even more chilly. Which won’t take too long. Anyway, today there is a slight chance for some strong weather, perhaps small hail. It’s a definite change for our system.  Bound to happen and Viola! here it comes. Turn off that A/C, change that filter and get ready to be using the heat before too long. Our nighttime temperatures are going to tumble into the 40s. Time to find those fall jackets and get them ready for daily use.

Monday, Sept. 19, 2022-SW Michigan-A Pleasant, Sunny Day

Monday, Sept. 19, 2022-SW Michigan-A Pleasant, Sunny Day

Currently 68 with an average wind from the WNW of 4 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 63, Barometer 29.9, Humidity 85%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7;26 am, Sunset 7:45 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 70s. N W winds 5-10 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the mid 60s. Light winds.

Cooler temperatures are on the way for next week while in the meantime, fall color is beginning to crop up here and there. Not much yet, but it’s begun. The Finch have already lost their summer brilliance and are now beginning to be dressed in their drab, less dangerous winter colors. Hummers are still here but not for much longer, I suspect. Summer winding up and Autumn unwinding. Just the nature of things Looks like an uneventful changeover from here. So far.

Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Pleasant Morning, Possible Rain Later

Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022-SW Michigan-Pleasant Morning, Possible Rain Later

Currently 72 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 66, Barometer 29:89, Humidity 79%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7;24 am, Sunset 7:47 pm.

Partly sunny with a 30% chance of rain showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm. High in the upper 70s. SW winds 5-15 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of rain and a slight chance of a thunderstorm becoming partly cloudy overnight. Low in the lower 60s. SW winds around 10 mph becoming W overnight.

Not a bad little morning going on. Slight chance of some rain later and overnight but none again until maybe Tuesday-Wednesday. That opportunity for precipitation will usher in some cooler weather with a more Fall-like feel to our days. Bound to happen sooner or later. Only in the 60s, but that for someone who likes 80-degree days, that is definitely on the cool side. Probably time to put away the short-sleeve blouses for the season.

Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022-SW Michigan-Nice Today, Rain Tonight

Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022-SW Michigan-Nice Today, Rain Tonight

Currently 69 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 69 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:23 am, Sunset 7:49 pm

Mostly sunny today with a high in the lower 80s. S winds 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm overnight. Low in the mid 60. SW winds 5-10 mph.

There is a small chance of rain tomorrow, but the opportunity for rain is still in the picture. We should probably be ready for more Fall-like stuff coming our way. After all, it is the middle of September. Seeing more and more drier leaves that have given up the fight and fallen already, but not a whole lot of color around so far. There will be. In the meantime, enjoy this morning and get ready for likely rain overnight.

Friday, Sept. 16, 2022-SW Michigan-A Glorious Early Autumn Day

Friday, Sept. 16, 2022-SW Michigan-A Glorious Early Autumn Day

Just a lovely day to be out and about. Comfortable and bright. Still the chance of rain for Sunday, but nothing new there. Just our regular weekly chance of Sunday rain. Best we can hope is it doesn’t come around. The rest of the week looks wonderful.

Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022-SW Michigan-Cloudless Morning Sky

Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022-SW Michigan-Cloudless Morning Sky

Currently 57 with an average wind from the ENE of 3 mph. Feels like 57 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 30.19, Humidity 92%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:21 am, Sunset 7:52 pm.

Mostly sunny until midday becoming a partly sunny afternoon. High in the upper 70s. SE winds 5-10 mph becoming S in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy tonight. low around 60. S winds 5-10 mph.

Not a single thing going on in this morning’s sky. Nice, but not exactly a photo op. Look like not much more than nice early Autumn days ahead…except for, guess what? Well, that would be a Sunday, wouldn’t it? Pretty much can count on a forecast of some rain for Sunday. The only surprise is when it doesn’t happen. What is it about Mother Nature and weeping on Sunday? At any rate, let’s hope no rain this time around. The rest of the days all look pleasant and comfortable.

Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Nice Autumn Weather

Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022-SW Michigan-Nice Autumn Weather

Currently 67 with an average wind from the SSW of 2 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 65, Barometer 30.03, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7;20 am, Sunset 7:54 pm.

Sunny with patchy morning fog. High in the mid 70s. Ligh winds becoming N 5-10 in the evening.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the lower 50s. E winds 5-10 mph.

Looking ahead the temperatures seem to be all in the nicely comfortable range. 70s, a few 80s. A bit of rain now and then. Sounds like pleasant early Autumn weather coming our way. Nothing harsh or drastic on the horizon. Seeing a few leaves giving up, letting go and falling now. Not a lot, but it’s begun.
