An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Thursday, August 16, 2018 South West Michigan – Expecting, Hoping, For Some Rain

Currently 72 with an average wind from the ESE of 4 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 68, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.96 & rising, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 6:48 am, Sunset 8:42 pm. 60% chance of showers or thunderstorms today, high 83. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight with the chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm rolling through. Low 67. Light and variable winds.

The temperature isn’t all that high this morning, but with the dew point and humidity so elevated, it feels warmer than some of the other hot days we’ve recently gone through. Fingers crossed that some of the precipitation supposedly drifting around up there makes its way to my area. We keep hearing about a stray shower but they insist on straying far beyond our reach.  We know that eventually the chilly fall rains will begin, but those are not welcome rains for the most part. Those are the ones that start to remind you how cold you’re bound to be in no time at all, and they do an powerful job of knocking down any leaves trying to brighten out world with color. No…what we need, and have needed for some time, are some good, rejuvenating summer rains. Yeah, like I said, fingers crossed.

Wednesday, August 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot, Slight Chance of Overnight Rain

Wednesday, August 15, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot, Slight Chance of Overnight Rain

Currently 74 with a SSW wind of 5 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 68, Humidity 81%, Barometer 29.96 & rising, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 6:47 am, Sunset 8:44 pm. A mix of sun and clouds will become cloudy with the slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm later in the afternoon. High 88. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

40% chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms tonight. Low 68. SSE winds 5 -10 mph.

We keep hearing about the chance for rain, but it keeps not happening. We really need the rain. Never seen so many dry leaves laying around on the ground this early in the season. It’s simply the dryness. They aren’t changing into the beauty of Autumn, they are simply giving up the ghost, letting go, and falling on the ground. It’s crazy. This has been the hottest, driest summer  I can remember. Not a fun one at all. Something not fair here. We has a rotten Spring, a Summer to hot to enjoy and who knows what we’ll be getting for the next couple of seasons. Weird.  I know. Could be worse. It’s so much worse in so many other places. Seems rather shameful to be complaining. But we expect SO much from our Spring and Summer seasons and when they fail so miserably to live up to expectations, a little complaining is to be expected. I’ll try to keep it at a minimum :>)

Currently 75 with a WSW wind of 6 mph. Feels like 75. Dew Point 67, Humidity 78%, Barometer 29.95 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:46 am, Sunset 8:45 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy, high 89. W winds  10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 67. SW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Still holding out the chance of some rain Wednesday through Friday, but in all honesty, the percentage seems to be dwindling. And we are still in need of some good soakings. All I know is we’re definitely not getting any today and it’s going to be a mighty warm one – again.

Monday, August 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds Beginning To Gather

Monday, August 13, 2018 South West Michigan – Clouds Beginning To Gather

Currently 73 with a SE wind of 2 mph. Feels like 73 degrees, Dew Point 65, Humidity 90%, Barometer 30.10 & rising, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 6:45 am, Sunset 8:47 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy. High 87. Light and variable winds.

Partly cloudy overnight skies. Low 64. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not much of a breeze stirring the humid air this morning, so it does feel rather close. Chances are building that we could get some much needed rain beginning on Wednesday right through about Saturday. You would think in all of those possible days, we’d catch a break and get some precipitation, wouldn’t you? My fingers are crossed. We shall see.

Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot Summer Weather Continues

Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018 South West Michigan – Hot Summer Weather Continues

Currently 79 with an E wind of 5 mph. Feels like a warm 83 degrees out there already. Dew Point 63, Humidity 59%, Barometer 30.11, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:44 am, Sunset 8:48 pm. Sunny today with a high of 86. ENE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 62. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Wonderful – but dry – summer weather continues. For some – like for instance my youngest son whose home A/C has died – this hot summer weather isn’t really so wonderful, but for those of us who can duck into the A/C cooled house for relief, it’s pretty good. There is a small chance of a bit of rain about midweek, but for now, dry is the way things continue around here.

Saturday, August 11, 2018 South West Michigan – Sun, Clouds, Perhaps A Bit Of Rain

Saturday, August 11, 2018 South West Michigan – Sun, Clouds, Perhaps A Bit Of Rain

Currently 68 with a W wind of 4 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 81%, Barometer 29.98 & rising, Sunrise 6:43 am, Sunset 8:50 pm. Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High 87. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Mostly clear with q low of 61. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

Not a bad Saturday and I do hope for those who only have the weekends free that the rain skips on over us and leaves them a dry two days off.  We could use the rain, but those who work all week long need those two days to wander around in the great outdoors and tend to whatever needs doing. If it must rain, I would hope it can hold off until Monday. That might be a busy day for me, but I can either dodge the raindrops or am lucky enough to be able to put off what I need to do to another day if necessary. At any rate, starting the weekend off just fine for now. Warm and dry.

Friday, August 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny And Pleasant

Friday, August 10, 2018 South West Michigan – Sunny And Pleasant

Currently 72 with an ENE wind of 9 mph. Feels like 72 degrees, Dew Point 65, Humidity 79%, Barometer 29.98 & rising, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:42 am, Sunset 8:51 pm. Nothing but a sunny sky today with a high of 84. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear overnight skies, low 62, ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

A perfect day to be doing just about any and every thing you’d want to be doing on a summer’s day. This is a fine one coming up with not one single thing to complain about in my little world.

Tuesday, August 7, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Morning Sun, Afternoon Rain

Tuesday, August 7, 2018 South West Michigan – Some Morning Sun, Afternoon Rain

Currently 72 degrees with a calm wind. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 69, Humidity 93%, Barometer 29.98 & rising, Visibility 8 mi, Sunrise 6:38 am, Sunset 8:55 pm. Partly cloudy morning with a 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. High 81. NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

40% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Light and variable winds.

A find morning with enough sunshine to make it feel better than the high Dew Point and Humidity would suggest. We did get .05″ rain yesterday, which isn’t much but some. Perhaps we’ll get more later today and tonight. Do hope so. We are in need.

Monday, August 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Finally Some Rain

Monday, August 6, 2018 South West Michigan – Finally Some Rain

Currently 72 with a W winds of 12 mph. Feels like 72 degrees. Dew Point 67, Humidity 87%, Barometer 30.04, Visibility 2 mi, Sunrise 6:37 am, Sunset 8:57 pm. 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could possibly be severe. 1″ of rain possible. High 83. SW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Same for tonight with a low of 66. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Woke to the lack of light pouring in through the window and the sound of gentle rain. So far, it’s gentle even though some wild weather could be in store for us later on today. In the meantime, I’ve measured .11″ of rainfall in the gauge already and thankful to say it’s still raining. An easy rainy day. How I would love to be able to stay right here and enjoy it but no…Monday is a busy day, so umbrella in hand, I shall be out and about in no time. Drat!

40% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Low 72. SW winds 10 -20 mph.

It’s a stuffy feeling morning, going to get good and hot like it did yesterday. Been watching leaves fall here and there at an alarming rate. It’s SO dry, the poor things haven’t a chance of holding on. And I’m not saying all the leaves are falling, but far too many of them in spots. We are surely in need of a good rain or two.
