An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Monday, March 25, 2019-South West Michigan – Lots Of Sunshine Today

Currently 31 with a NE wind of 13 mph making it feel like 21 degrees. Dew Point 13, Humidity 47%, Barometer 30.31 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:37 am, Sunset 8:00pm. Sunny today with a high of 44 degrees. NNE winds 10 -20 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 20. NNE winds 10 -15 mph.

Plenty of sunshine today and how welcome that is. Still piles of dirty snow here and there but gradually they grow smaller and uglier. Can’t wait for it all to be gone. It’s just so delightful to be able to head on out the door without putting on boots. Can’t wait to be able to say that minus a coat. Eventually. It’s on the way!

Sunday, March 24, 2019-South West Michigan-First Robin Of Spring In My Backyard

Sunday, March 24, 2019-South West Michigan-First Robin Of Spring In My Backyard

Currently 46 with a SW wind of 6 mph making it feel like 43 degrees. Dew Point 26, Humidity 45%, Barometer 3o.13 & falling, Visibility 10 mil, sunrise 7:38 am, sunset 7:58 pm. Partly cloudy this morning will becoming overcast in the afternoon. High 51. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy becoming clear overnight. Low 29. NE winds 10 -15 .

My first Spring Robin of 2019 in my tiny backyard yesterday. The little slacker sure took his time. Everyone else around here has seen them for the past week. Oh well…he’s back and that’s all that counts. I’ve hung the nesting material basket out and I’m tossing raisins out with the bird seed. Can’t give ’em worms, but I can furnish what I do know they’ll eat. Raisins. At any rate, a sure sign of Spring when the Robins return. And I find it amazing, as I do every year, that they seem to come back en mass.  None and then they’re all over the place. Welcome back, birds.

Saturday, March 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Clear Sky, Sunshine Today

Saturday, March 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Clear Sky, Sunshine Today

Currently 28 with a WNW wind of 6 mph making it feel like 21 degrees. Dew Point 19, Humidity 68%, Barometer 30.32 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:40 am, Sunset 7:57 pm. Sunny today with a high of 46. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Clear early becoming cloudy overnight. Low 31. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

The sky is a pale blue this morning, but it is blue. Not a cloud in sight and that’s a great thing. Even though it’s starting off chilly and won’t warm up a tremendous amount, the sunshine will make it seem better than it is. In Michigan, we spend far too many days in the winter minus so much as a hint of sunshine, so when it puts in an appearance, everyone has more energy and interest in accomplishing things. Still can’t do much of anything outdoors yet, but that’s okay. The time is coming. We’re getting there.

Friday, March 22, 2019-South West Michigan-Still Have Backyard Snow

Friday, March 22, 2019-South West Michigan-Still Have Backyard Snow

Currently 34 with a NNW wind of 15 mph making it feel like 24. Dew Point 26, Barometer 29.97 & rising, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:42 am, Sunset 7:56 pm. Decreasing cloudiness, high 37. NNW winds 20 -30 mph with higher gusts possible.

Clear overnight skies, low 20. NNW winds 10 -20 mph.

It might be nearing the end of March but I still have snow on the ground in my tiny backyard. Granted, it faces North and never gets any sunshine out there, but the temperatures could most certainly have been kinder and more helpful.

Thursday, March 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Spring Brings…More Snow

Thursday, March 21, 2019-South West Michigan-Spring Brings…More Snow

Currently 34 with a N wind of 5 mph making it feel like 30 degrees. Dew Point 34, Barometer 29.98 & rising, Humidity 98%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:44 am, Sunset 7:55 pm. Cloudy with early patchy fog. Mostly cloudy with a high of 46. WNW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Partly cloudy to cloudy with a 30% chance of rain/snow mix. Low 31. WNW winds 10 -1 5 mph.

Yesterday, the first day of Spring brought us a pretty steady snowy afternoon. In fact, I was out driving in it and at one point looked suspiciously like a white-out. Nasty weather for what is supposed to be the gentle season of Spring. And nothing in the next week’s forecast indicates Spring is intending to be any more kind to us than that.

Wednesday, March 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain, Perhaps Snow Mixed In?

Wednesday, March 20, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain, Perhaps Snow Mixed In?

Currently 40 with a SSW wind of 11 mph making it feel like 33 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.09 & falling, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 7:54 pm. Party cloudy morning to become a cloudy afternoon with a 90% chance of rain, perhaps some snowflakes mixed in. High around 41. S winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy with an 80% chance of overnight rain/snow mix. Low 33. ESE winds 5 – 10 mph.

That rotten S words refuses to vanish, to clear out of our picture. Oh, we sure do wish it would as we’ve had enough. Naturally, any that falls now will go away quickly, but still…

Tuesday, March 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Pale Blue Clear Sky Today

Tuesday, March 19, 2019-South West Michigan-Pale Blue Clear Sky Today

Currently 28 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 24. Barometer 30.40 & rising. Humidity 85%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:47 am, Sunset 7:53 pm. Partly cloudy with a high of 45.

Clear overnight skies. Low 31. SSW winds 5- 10 mph.

Not warming up a tremendous amount yet, but it should get over the freezing mark enough to help alleviate some of the snow cover that still lingers in shaded areas…like my tiny backyard. I’m still gingerly walking over ice and snow to get to the area where I feed the birds and critters. No sunshine hits out there, so I hang on to that snow cover much longer than I care to. Need to see more warm rain and higher temperature numbers for awhile to get rid of all of it.

Monday, March 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Will See A Bit Of Sun Today

Monday, March 18, 2019-South West Michigan-Will See A Bit Of Sun Today

Currently 30 with a SW wind of 3 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 30.36 & rising, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 7:51 pm. Sunny to partly cloudy today. High 41. WSW winds 10 – 15 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy tonight, low 26. SW winds 5 -1 0 mph.

Watching the heartbreaking pictures of the historic flooding in Nebraska, Iowa is hard to do. Going to take a long, long time to overcome the damage and loss there. My heart goes out to those folks. Thankfully, nothing like that going on here. Today will be rather blah and uneventful. Under the circumstances of what’s happening elsewhere, that’s not a bad thing.

Another picture of my much loved Black Squirrels. This is the one who appears to have blue eyes. Is that possible? I don’t know, but every time I catch a picture of this one guy, his eyes definitely look blue.

Sunday, March 17, 2019 – South West Michigan- Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Sunday, March 17, 2019 – South West Michigan- Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Currently 31 with an average wind from the S of 8 mph making it feel like 24 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 30.27 & falling, Humidity 60%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 7:50 pm. Cloudy today with a high around 39. WSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Clear skies, low 22, NW winds 5 – 10 mph.

On this St. Patrick’s Day our weather is mild. A tad chilly but no wind to speak of so it’s not such a cold fee outside as we’ve been dealing with. Supposedly the Robins are back. Why? Goodness knows. There most certainly isn’t anything for them to eat and not much of anything available for them to build nests with. I’m thinking  Robins perhaps aren’t the brightest of birds or they would have remained in the south with a chance of not freezing their tail feathers off for awhile.

In the meantime, enjoy this holiday. As the saying goes, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. So, like it or not, today you’re Irish. Celebrate accordingly.

Saturday, March 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Woke To A Covering Of Fresh Snow

Saturday, March 16, 2019-South West Michigan-Woke To A Covering Of Fresh Snow

Currently 30 with a W wind of 10 mph making it fee like 22 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 30.25 & rising, Humidity 65%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 7:45 pm. Cloudy skies with morning snow showers will be come partly cloudy in the afternoon. High 36. WNW winds 10 – 20 mph.

A few passing overnight clouds, low 23. WNW winds becoming S 10 – 15 mph.

Oh yeah…Mother Nature simply can’t let go and just go. A dusting of fresh snow this morning was not a pleasant sight and there’s still a chance of some flurries tomorrow. More than ready to have the S word vanish from our weather picture.

Must be getting to be Spring -whether it looks it or not – as the guys from next door have started Sugaring. Will be interesting to watch as they’ve never done this before.
