An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, March 18, 2025-SW Michigan-Not Finished With Winter Yet

Currently 48 with an average wind from the SSW of 2 mph. Feels like 46 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.82, Humidity 58%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:49 am, Sunset 7:52 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the lower 60s. SW winds 5-1-0 mph with gusts to around 20 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy with a low in the lower 50s. SE around 10 mph becoming S overnight with gusts to 25.

Hard to see right now, but our March days are not out of the woods with 30 degrees and snow showers. It appears that we’ve in store for a lot of those over the next few weeks. First off this Thursday it seems we’ll get a glancing blow from Winter Storm Nyla. After that? Just plain winter hanging around refusing to depart and allow spring to get a steady foothold. At any rate, we’re in for a lot more chilly weather so don’t be in any rush to pack away the winter duds. And it pains me to say all of that. Dang! This is not one of the March months that are nice…could have been but alas…

Monday, March 17, 2025-SW Michigan-Ground Snow For St. Patrick’s Day

Monday, March 17, 2025-SW Michigan-Ground Snow For St. Patrick’s Day

Currently 30 with an average wind from the ENE of 4 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mph, Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 7:51 pm.

Sunny until midday becoming partly sunny. high in the upper 4os. SW around 10 mp0h becoming 10-15 with gusts to 25 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly clear overnight. Low in the mid 30s. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Our day and night time is equal today. That will change by tomorrow but it won’t happen again for another 6 months.

Yesterday’s miserable cold weather ended up with what looks to be about a 1/2″ of snow covering everything this morning. Not exactly what we like to see on St. Patrick’s Day but it is what it is. In fact, tomorrow and the next day appear to be the best we’re going to be getting for the next two weeks. And…look for an unfortunate repeat of yesterday’s weather this coming Thursday.

Okay, so far March is not really being very nice. Alas…there’s always next year, I guess. I have hopes every year but this one simply is not falling into line as I’d hoped.

Sunday, March 16, 20215-SW Michigan-Darn Cold Out There

Sunday, March 16, 20215-SW Michigan-Darn Cold Out There

Currently 36 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.43, Humidity 100%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 7:49 pm.

100% chance of rain becoming afternoon snow. 1″ or less expected. High in the upper 30s. NW winds around 10 mph increasing to 10-15 with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy with an overnight low in the lower 20s. NW winds5-10w with gusts to round20 in the evening becoming light.

At least the rain is cleaning up our atmosphere after yesterday’s unpleasant stuff. Dust, smoke…the air along with a high wind made it a pretty uncomfortable day.  Today we’re just dealing with cold – and probably snow later on. Not a delightful day at all. And look for a repeat of today around next Thursday. We can only hope that will be the end of the 30 degrees and snow because we’re certainly had our fill of it. Don’t look for any drastic warm up next week but temperatures in the 50s will be our norm. This is not the spring weather we’ve been dreaming of…not yet anyway. Eventually. We can only hope.

Saturday, March 15, 2025-SW Michigan-Wind And Rain Coming

Saturday, March 15, 2025-SW Michigan-Wind And Rain Coming

Currently 61 with an average wind from the SE of 5 mph. Feels like 61 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 29.3, Humidity 90%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 7:48 pm.

High Wind Advisory in effect until 8 pm today.

Windy. Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain showers. High around 70. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 40 increasing to SW 20-30 mph with gusts to 50.

Windy tonight with a 90% chance of overnight rain. Low in the mid 30s. W winds 5-10 becoming NW 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Warm temperature today leading into wind, rain and a tomorrow at least 30 degrees colder with a good chance of seeing some snow mixed in with the rain. Not a nice scenario but it appears to be ours none-the-less. Back up a few degrees the beginning of the week leading into probably Wednesday with another chilly day and perhaps snow. Nothing is sounding wonderful here but we have hopes that eventually things will even out and we’ll get back to a comfortable spring.

Friday, March 14, 2025-SW Michigan-Could Get Some Thunderstorms

Friday, March 14, 2025-SW Michigan-Could Get Some Thunderstorms

Currently 50 with an average wind from he ENE of 4 mph. Feels like 48 degrees. Dew Point 31, Barometer 29.78, Humidity 47%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 7:47 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the lower 70s. SE winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 25 becoming S 15-20 with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy in the evening with a 90% chance of rain showers with a chance of a thunderstorm overnight. There is a marginal chance for something severe. Low in the mid 50s. S winds 10-20 with gusts to around 35.

Not quite the couple of sunny hot days we were imagining. We’ll be getting the warmth today and tomorrow, but likely accompanied by clouds and perhaps a thunderstorm or two. Still and all, enjoy the numbers in the 70s because Sunday is going to become rather a shocker with our temperature diving down into the 30s with a chance for some snow.  No way around it, just an ugly day. Monday will revive a bit so we just have to get through that one rotten day, but it’s sort of a blow considering we want to be done and done such numbers and precipitation.

Thursday, March 13, 2025-SW Michigan-Couple Super Days Coming

Thursday, March 13, 2025-SW Michigan-Couple Super Days Coming

Currently 37 with an average wind from the E of 1 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 24, Barometer 29.98, Humidity 57%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 7:46 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 50s Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a low in the upper 30s. SE winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 20.

Today is going to be nice and the next couple of days will be even better. Look for some rain, maybe storms coming in late Saturday and overnight which will drag our temperatures down about 30 degrees. Sunday could be miserable in comparison. Could even see a wintry mix or some snow. Nothing to look forward to. That, of course, will not hang around. Things will begin to improve somewhat right after. Mother Nature just seems to enjoy tossing us a side slap now and again. The following week won’t be anything to write home about. In fact a week from today on Thursday of that week we could be looking at temperatures in the 30s with some snow. So, I reckon the best thing to do is enjoy today and the the next couple of days as much as possible. Then prepare to wait a bit for things like this to repeat. They will. Eventually.

Wednesday, March 12, 2025-SW Michigan-Temperatures Rising

Wednesday, March 12, 2025-SW Michigan-Temperatures Rising

Currently 32 with an average wind from the NE of 7 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 29.88, Humidity 51%. Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset  7:45 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high around 50. E winds 5-15 mph with  gusts to around 25.

Mostly clear with a low around 30. E winds 5 mph.

Look for our day to get warmer this week right on up to Saturday. Sunday isn’t set to play nice, and that will bring the temperatures down next week to a lot less than we’re seeing now. And…I hate to say this…and granted it’s a long way in the future, but somewhere around the 20 someone had the audacity to mention snow. I know. I know. We don’t want to be hearing this. I’m hoping by the time that roles around it will have completely changed. Who know? It’s March in Michigan and we seem to get it all. At least this week, the all is nice and pleasant. Enjoy.

Tuesday, March 10, 2025-SW Michigan-Lovely Right Up To Weekend

Tuesday, March 10, 2025-SW Michigan-Lovely Right Up To Weekend

Currently 46 with an average wind from the WNW of 13 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 36, Barometer 29.69, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:02 am, Sunset 7:43 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the upper 40s. N winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy with a low in the upper 20s. NE winds 5-10 becoming E with gusts to 20 overnight.

This week continues to be pleasant and enjoyable. No change yet in the fact that this weekend will end it for a while. Saturday should remain on the warm side but not so sunny. And Sunday will drop down with rain or rain/snow and will drag the numbers down for the following week. Not much we can do about it but wait it out ’cause the nice warm stuff will return eventually.

Monday, March 10, 2025-SW Michigan-Heading In To A Warm Week

Monday, March 10, 2025-SW Michigan-Heading In To A Warm Week

Currently 43 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.79, Humidity 67%, Visibility 9.9 mi. Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 7:42 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 50s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Mostly clear with an overnight low in the lower 40s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

What a lovely week we have in store. Right on up to the weekend. Saturday will be cooler and likely bring rain but Sunday is probably going to be a chilly one. One site offers the idea that we could see a snow flake or two. I’m hoping that’s well off the mark. The only thing we know is this weekend will break this lovely spell and next week won’t be the experience we’ll have over the next 4 or 5 days. Enjoy.

Sunday, March 9, 2025-SW Michigan-Nice Weather On The Way

Sunday, March 9, 2025-SW Michigan-Nice Weather On The Way

Currently 45 with an average wind from the S of 6 mph. Feels like 43 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 29.92, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 7:41 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the lower 50s. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the lower 30s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 30 in the evening.

This is a terrific week of weather coming for us – right up to the next weekend, where it will take another dive. Figures, huh? But in the meantime we will have climbing temperatures – could even see 70 by Friday – with plenty of sunshine. Can’t complain about that.
