An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019-South West Michigan-Snow Possibility Hangs On

Currently 31 with an average wind from the SSW of 11 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 94%, Barometer 29.78 & falling, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:55 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a chance of a few flurries or snow showers. High 35. SW Winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy overnight skies. Low 31. W winds 10 -15 mph.

Well, yesterday the possibility of snow had been removed for the week. Today back it comes. It looks and feels like a very real possibility today. Wishing it would all go away but wishing won’t work with Mother Nature. In fact, nothing does. The weather does what the weather will do no matter how much we’d like it to be different. So…instead of thinking no precipitation for the week, now we just wait and see.

Monday, Dec. 2, 2019-South West Michigan-Fair Weather Week Ahead – Maybe

Monday, Dec. 2, 2019-South West Michigan-Fair Weather Week Ahead – Maybe

Currently 28 with an average wind from the N of 11 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 25, Humidity 89%, Barometer 29.96 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:54 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy to partly cloudy today. High 33. N winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly clear to overcast overnight. Low 22. Light and variable winds.

Okay, peering ahead it would seem we are in store for a week minus any  new precipitation. So far it looks that way. Things can change but until next weekend we might be looking at fairly decent temperatures – for Michigan – and no new snow. We did get a wicked little storm the other night and have plenty of proof of that laying around. Crunching under foot and tire. Perhaps by next weekend most of this batch will be gone. Hoping so. Our goal, here in Michigan, is to hold on to as comfortable a temperature as we can for as long as we can. Especially in December because once things take a tumble, they go downhill quickly and it always feels like permanently. So far, so good. Should be a fine week for us.

Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019-South West Michigan-4″ Of Overnight Snow

Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019-South West Michigan-4″ Of Overnight Snow

Currently 31 with an average wind from the ENE of 10 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 91%, Barometer 29.38, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

50% chance of snow flurries and showers. Temperatures near steady in the mid 30s. NE winds 10 – 15 mph.

Cloudy. Low 27. NNE winds 10 -15 mph.

We were supposed to get a lot of wind, snow, sleet, freezing rain mix but what we got was all snow. A little over 4″ of wet heavy snow. I was told there was, but evidently slept right through,  an extremely loud, rumbling thunder storm last night about midnight. Totally missed it and I usually don’t miss thunderstorms. At any rate, this morning looks nice but it’s miserable to be dealing with. Too heavy to shovel, miserable to drive in. The next three or four days should help get rid of a bit of it with no new precipitation forecast. We’ll see. This morning was beautiful to see but not fun to cope with.

Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019-South West Michigan- A Couple Of Miserable Weather Days Coming Up

Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019-South West Michigan- A Couple Of Miserable Weather Days Coming Up

Currently 32 with an average wind from the E of 15 mph. Feels like 22 degrees.  Dew Point 27, Humidity 82%, Barometer 30.08 & falling, Visibility 10 mil, Sunrise 7:52 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Cloudy with 40% chance of  rain showers with some sleet mixed in. Temperatures steady in the mid 30s. E winds 10 -20 mph.

100% chance of rain mixed with snow. Some sleet and freezing rain possible. Becoming windy. Low 32. E winds 20 -30 mph.

It does sound as if today and tomorrow will be messy. Out of nowhere this ugly little spot of weather has dropped on us. However, it also sounds as if Monday on will be more or less pleasant for most of the remainder of the week. I guess we can wade through this misery in order to get to the nice stuff without too much stress.

Friday, Nov. 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Black Friday, A Dangerous Day To Be Out And About

Friday, Nov. 29, 2019-South West Michigan-Black Friday, A Dangerous Day To Be Out And About

Currently 31 with an average wind from the E of 6 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 27, Humidity 81%, Barometer 30.45, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:51 am, Sunset 5:08 pm.

Cloudy today with a high of 36. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy tonight, low 29. E winds 5 – 10 mph.

So…after a semi black week…let’s face it it’s become almost a pewter gray Monday, a steel gray Tuesday, a charcoal gray Wednesday – Thanksgiving – then supposedly a black Friday. Honestly, the day after sales used to be fun after a holiday. They were. But then I’m talking decades ago, back when people were civilized and just went to catch a bargain or two. Now they’re cut-throat raiders. I wouldn’t try one these days without full body armor and a body guard. It’s insane.

On a more civil vein, I hope you all had a grand Thanksgiving Day full of food and gratitude.

Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019-South West Michigan-Happy Thanksgiving

Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019-South West Michigan-Happy Thanksgiving

Currently 34 with an average wind from the N of 9 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 29, Humidity 82%, Barometer 30.44 & rising, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:50 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

Generally cloudy with temperatures steady in the mid 30s. NNE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Cloudy. Low 29. Light and variable winds.

Thanksgiving Day is gray and gloomy here but once the tables are set for that scrumptious turkey dinner, things will brighten up immensely. Take a moment today to give thanks for everything, big or small. There’s so many things to be grateful for. Even gloomy days like this…at least it isn’t snowing. For that I give great thanks.

Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019-South West Michigan-A Crummy Day But So Far No Snow

Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019-South West Michigan-A Crummy Day But So Far No Snow

Currently 44 with an average wind from the SW of 27 mph. Feels like 34. Dew Point 39, Humidity 83%, Barometer 29.30 & rising, Visibility 2.4 mph., Sunrise 7:48 am, Sunset 5:09 pm.

90% chance of light rain and wind. Some snow showers could mix in by afternoon. High around 45. WSW winds 25 – 35 mph. Gusts up to 40 possible.

Cloudy with gusty winds. Low 32. NW winds 20 -30 mph with gusts up to 40 possible.

Been blowing rain around all morning and it’s a cloudy mess, but so far it’s now offering any snow to us. And we’d like to keep it that way. Way too much for most people to be doing this day before a holiday. And we’re keeping our fingers crossed that tomorrow, the big travel day, remains road-safe.

Monday, Nov. 25, 2019-South West Michigan-Little Fog, Some Clouds, But No Rain

Monday, Nov. 25, 2019-South West Michigan-Little Fog, Some Clouds, But No Rain

Currently 38 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 37, Humidity 98%, Barometer 29.63 & rising, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 7:46 am, Sunset 5:10 pm.

Areas of morning fog. Partly cloudy skies this morning will becoming afternoon overcast. High around 50. SSW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Some passing clouds, Low 33. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

No precipitation forecast for today, or tomorrow for that matter. About Wednesday and again next weekend. Fair enough. Sounds as if Thanksgiving day will be mild and easy traveling here in SW Michigan. We’ve had plenty of them where that wasn’t the case. No telling at this point what Christmas may bring, but this holiday will provide safe roads. We’ll take them one at a time. Good enough.

Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019-South West Michigan-High Flying Clouds

Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019-South West Michigan-High Flying Clouds

Currently 44 with an average wind from the SW of 15 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 35, Humidity 71%, Barometer 29.61 & falling, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:45 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

Mostly sunny morning to some passing afternoon clouds. High 46. WSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy early to partial clearing overnight. Low 37. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

I see the wind down here on the surface is around 15 mph but way up there where the clouds are living, it has to be mighty windy. Those clouds are really moving fast. Glad it’s up there and not down here. We’ve had quite enough of the wind lately. Enjoying this nice spate of pleasant unusual November weather. Just seeing the sun would be good enough but these mild temperatures make it all even better. Absolutely nothing to complain about right now…well, beyond the fact that we’re heading into my least favorite season, Winter, and not my favorite, Spring. But other than that…

Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Clearing Out

Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019-South West Michigan-Clouds Clearing Out

Currently 32 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 30, Humidity 90%, Barometer 29.89 & falling, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:44 am, Sunset 5:11 pm.

Partly cloudy today with a high of 41. SW winds 5 -10 mph.

A few overnight clouds. Low 30. WSW winds 5 -10 mph.

A nice mild day, the first half of a pleasant late November weekend. We are in a mild weather pattern right now that is both surprising and welcome. We are all well aware, here in Michigan, that when the bottom falls out on this pleasantness, and it will, things are going to get Winter ugly. Fingers crossed that this holds off for as long as possible. At any rate, for today we’ll get busy and do some last minute outdoor tasks so that when Spring arrives, eventually and hopefully inevitably, things will look tidy and neat.
