An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019-South West Michigan-Sun Doing It’s Best To Brighten The Day

Currently 28 with an average wind from the W of 9 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Humidity 66%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

50% chance of widely scattered snow showers. High 29. W winds 5 -10 mph.

Cloudy overnight with a low of 23. Light and variable winds.

We did have a Winter Weather Advisory in effect overnight for freezing drizzle followed by a light snow. We got that and it did make the roads this morning a bit slick, but nothing drastic. And this time of year, it could jolly well have been very drastic. In fact, peering ahead it does still look as if our weather will be fine and dandy for December with nothing extreme making any threats. At least for now this is what we can expect. Fingers crossed that nothing untoward shows up out of the blue…or as is usually the case, Canada and the frozen north. So far, so good.

Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019-South West Michigan-Hearing Hints Of Non-White Christmas :>)

Currently 31 with an average wind from the NNW of 5 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 29.69 & falling, Humidity 97%, Visibility 4 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Areas of morning fog. Overcast. High around 35. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

Mainly cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers. Low near 25. WNW winds 10 -15 mph.

Could be some snow now and again between now and then but for today, the idea of having near record temperatures around Christmas are sort of putting the kibosh on the idea of a white Christmas. Something that won’t break my heart. My holiday does not hinge on a covering of white to make it perfect. In fact, bare streets to drive on and non-slick sidewalks to walk on sound wonderful to me. We’ll see. A lot can change in a couple of weeks. The snow-loving white Christmas fans may well end up being happy after all. Only time and Mother Nature will tell.

Friday, Dec. 13, 2019-South West Michigan-Luck Still Holding With Weather

Currently 34 with an average wind from the SSE of 6 mph. Feels like 28. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.00 & falling, Humidity 77%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Partly cloudy evening will become overcast overnight. Low 27. Light and variable winds.

No unlucky change in our temperatures today. The Friday the 13th bad luck is holding off for the day. Today we’ll see plenty of clouds, but no big plunge in how the air feels. All good.

Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019-South West Michigan-Seeing The Last Of Above 20 Degree Temperatures

Currently 22 with an average wind from the SE of 14 mph. Feels like 9 degrees. Dew Point 15, Barometer 30.40 & falling, Humidity 73%, Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:06 pm.

A mix of morning sun and clouds will give way to a cloudy afternoon with the possibility of a rain shower or wet snow. High around 40. S winds 10 -20 mph.

Overnight overcast skies. Low 32. SSW winds 10 -20 mph.

Well, it isn’t anywhere near 40 degrees right now, in fact, it’s mighty chilly outside, but the possibility of it hangs out there. A couple of days from now there is no sign of anything over a temperature hovering in the 20 degree range. I guess that means try to enjoy whatever this particular days brings ’cause it’s going to be bundle up to the teeth time very soon. Dang.

Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019-South West Michigan-Darn Cold Out There

Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019-South West Michigan-Darn Cold Out There

Currently 16 with an average wind from the W of 18 mph. Feels like 0 degrees. Dew Point 7, Barometer 30.35 & rising, Humidity 80%, Visibility 6 mi., Sunrise 8:03am, Sunset 5:06pm.

Cloudy becoming partial clearing as the day goes along. A few snow flurries or showers possible. High 19. W winds 15-25 mph.

Clear becoming cloudy with a low of 15 overnight. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

Rather brisk outside this morning. No snow blowing about but there is a bit of a wind, which is adding to the cold feel. I’m already missing our Summer temperatures. I’m most certainly going to be missing them a whole lot more as this season progresses.

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019-South West Michigan-Colder With Light Snow

Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019-South West Michigan-Colder With Light Snow

Currently 23 with an average wind from the WNW of 11 mph. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 17, Barometer 30.02. Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.5 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:06 pm.

Mostly cloudy with an 80% chance of light snow. Colder. High 25. W winds 10 -20 mph.

Cloudy with a few snow flurries or showers. Low 17. W winds 10 -20 mph.

What a difference a day makes. Temperature at least 20 degrees lower today. Our little break in the Winter weather has ended. Expected to wake to slippery roads as yesterday’s rain was inevitably going to freeze with last night’s temperature drop. But the almost 1/4″ of snow was a surprise. Not a good one. Just added to the slick road conditions. Just more unfun Winter weather conditions.

Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain Moving In For Tonight & Tomorrow

Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019-South West Michigan-Rain Moving In For Tonight & Tomorrow

Currently 38 with an average wind from the SSW of 12 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 32, Barometer 29.93 & falling, Humidity 8 mi., Sunrise 8:00am, Sunset 5:06pm.

Cloudy with a high of 43. SW winds 10 -20 mph.

90% chance of showers becoming steady overnight rain. Low 39. S winds 5 -10 mph.

Today looks to be our last really decent day for awhile. Rain moving in, then cold and snow. Things are going to change as winter moves back in on a more steady footing. Was bound to happen. Bummer. But temperatures of more than 20 degrees less in only a few days will not feel nice.

Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019-South West Michigan-A Few More Days Then Bottom Falls Out

Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019-South West Michigan-A Few More Days Then Bottom Falls Out

Currently 29 with an average wind from the S of 10 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 21, Barometer 30.40, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 5:06 pm.

Cloudy to partly cloudy today with a high around 35. S winds 10 -15 mph.

Partly cloudy tonight, low near 30. S winds 10 -15 mph.

Today through Monday sound like reasonable days. For December. But by Tuesday our temperature is due to plummet and snow moves back into the picture. It’s been nice while it lasted and we knew it couldn’t go on forever, but most of us purely do hate to see the ugliness of winter show up again. Darn!

Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019-South West Michigan-A Couple Of Dry Days Before Rain/Snow

Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019-South West Michigan-A Couple Of Dry Days Before Rain/Snow

Currently 33 with an average wind from the WNW of 3 mph. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 30.04 & rising, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:06 pm.

Cloudy with temperatures holding steady in the mid 30s. Light and variable winds.

Cloudy with a few snow flurries possible. Low 31. SSE winds shifting to W 10 -15 mph.

So far it looks as if today and the next couple of days will be dry but then rain descends and in a few days into that snow will join the parade. Or at least this is the current report. Only thing for sure is the sky is definitely partly cloudy this morning with no precipitation. Good enough!

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Gloomy And Gray

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019-South West Michigan-Gloomy And Gray

Currently 33 with an average wind from the W of 12 mph. Feels like 24 degrees. Dew Point 29, Barometer 29.56 & rising, Humidity 84%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Overcast with the possibility of a few snow flurries or showers showing up. Temperatures holding steady in the low to mid 30s. WNW winds 15 – 25.

Partly to mostly cloudy. Low 27. WNW winds 10 – 20 mph.

Not a very pretty day out there right now. The clouds have moved in to cover any sky we might have taken a look at and it’s rather breezy. Snow still packed on tree limbs from our recent dumping by Mother Nature. Matter of fact the only surface minus snow for now are the busy streets where traffic has conveniently helped clear things up. It hasn’t warmed up enough to help us get rid of much of this mess. Just making it all look messier. I hesitate to put any stock in advance weather forecasts but perhaps – and this is a very big maybe – next Monday could bring us 40 degree temps with rain. That would help immensely with helping us get rid of some snow. Would love that, but since it seems that even putting a whole lot of faith in even what is forecast for the very next day is iffy, getting giddy about what could be 5 days off seems rather silly. So we’ll wait and see.
