An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020-SW Michigan-Another Lovely Summer Day

Currently 67 with an average wind from the ESE of 4 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 52, Humidity 59%, Barometer 30.06, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:52 am, Sunset 8:39 pm.

Sunny with a high in the mid 70s. N winds 5 10 mph with gusts to around 20 until midday.

Clear overnight. Low around 50. N winds 10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Well, now there isn’t a hint of rain in view for at least the next 10 days. The sort of week that pleases most. Upper 70s, lower 80s. Comfortable with plenty of sunshine. Sort of like a postcard version of summer. I should think if there are any outdoorsy chores that folks need to be doing – staining decks, etc. that need about perfect drying, no moisture falling days – this would be the time to tackle such things. Me? I’m free as a bird to do nothing but enjoy the weather. Lucky me.

Monday, Aug. 17, 2020-SW Michigan-First Day Of A Lovely Week Ahead

Monday, Aug. 17, 2020-SW Michigan-First Day Of A Lovely Week Ahead

Currently 74 with an average wind from the WNW of 4 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 62, Humidity 65%, Humidity 65%, Barometer 29.98, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:50 am, Sunset 8:40 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 20% chance of a shower popping up. High in the upper 70s. NW winds around 10 mph increasing to 10-15.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the lower 50s. N winds 5 -10 mph.

Sounds about perfect this week. Low 80s, upper 70s. Very comfortable. I’m a little disturbed about leaves starting to show up on the ground here and there. WAY too early for such shenanigans. I realize the reason. It’s been a hot, dry summer and I suspect many of the leaves are stressed. But they shouldn’t show their displeasure by littering the ground already. Don’t want to even begin thinking about Autumn. No need to taint the remainder of our summer with hints of fall.

Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020-SW Michigan-Bright Blue Sky Aug Day

Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020-SW Michigan-Bright Blue Sky Aug Day

Currently 74 with an average wind from the E of 5 mph. Feels like 74 degrees. Dew Point 55, Humidity 51%, Barometer 29.55 & falling, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:49 am, Sunset 8:42 pm.

Sunny. High in the lower 80s. N winds 10 -15 mph becoming NW in the afternoon with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy with a low in the upper 50s. W winds around 10 mph.

Well, no rain from our last opportunity. Things are dry. Been a hot dry summer which probably explains some leaves falling already. NOT happy to see that, but it’s easy to understand as the leaves are probably stressed already. No chance for any additional precipitation until next weekend now, and we all know how that goes. By the time next weekend rolls around that chance for rain might vanish. Hope not, but it’s a possibility.

Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020-SW Michigan-Nice Morning, Maybe Afternoon Rain

Hopefully if there is to be rain it will come through tonight and leave tomorrow sunny and pleasant – as it’s advertised to be. This is a nice morning with the air feeling fresh and comfortable. Nice breeze blowing by.

Next several days sound like they’ll be in the mid to upper 80s with a small chance of rain each day. Come Monday, things have cooled back down into the 70s for the week. Or so it says. We’ll see how it goes.

Rain has moved out now to only about a 30% chance of Sunday. A couple of hot days and then it looks to be moderating in the upper 70s for a while. Sounds to be on the comfortable side for the next week.

Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-Sunny Warm Aug Day

Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020-SW Michigan-Sunny Warm Aug Day

Currently 79 with a calm wind from the SE. Feels like 79 degrees. Dew Point 53, Barometer 30.13, Humidity 41%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:45 am, Sunset 8:48 pm.

Sunny with a high in the upper 80s. Light winds.

Mostly clear with a low in the upper 50s. Light winds becoming NE around 10 mph.

A nice two or three days coming up with – of course – the chance of rain coming in for the weekend. So far the chance is small, and with any luck it’ll go away entirely. Could be several warm days ahead but the beginning of next week – so far – shows highs in the upper 70s. Quite a cool down.

Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Storm Chases Away Heat and Humidity

Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020-SW Michigan-Storm Chases Away Heat and Humidity

Currently 75 with an average wind from the S of 1 mph. Feels like 75. Dew Point 56, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 52%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:44 am, Sunset 8:49 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 80s. NW winds 5 -15 mph.

Clear night skies. Low in the mid 50s. W winds around 10- mph becoming SW overnight.

A ferocious storm raced from the West with derecho winds causing plenty of damage  last night. None I see here, it seemed to have weakened somewhat as it crossed Lake Michigan and most of the ferocity went to the south of us. The sky looked fierce more to the south of us and the wind never did get crazy here as it roared on to the East. I guess we lucked out again. The high humidity and oppressive heat of yesterday evening seemed to have fled with the storm. Thankfully.  Looks to be heating up again later this week with again more storms at the ready to cool it back down. Hopefully, nothing on the scale of what took place yesterday. Rain and thunderstorms are one thing, Derecho winds are quite another. Once had property that was decimated by those winds. Turned a park-like yard into one with nearly every tree either downed or damaged. Never want to see that again and I feel for everyone who had to face it yesterday.

Monday, Aug. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Slight Chance For Severe Overnight Storms

Monday, Aug. 10, 2020-SW Michigan-Slight Chance For Severe Overnight Storms

Currently 78 with an average wind from the SW of 5 mph. Feels like 78 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:43 am, Sunset 8:51 pm.

70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. High in the upper 80s. SW winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to around 25. Heat index 90-95.

60% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the mid 60s. SW winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to around 30 becoming NW overnight.

Looks like the chance for severe weather is rather slight for our area. Would be good to get some rain, but we really could do without anything harsh. Seems like it’s on track to go to the south of us but we’ll just have to keep an eye on things.

Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020-SW Michigan-Going To Heat Up Today

Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020-SW Michigan-Going To Heat Up Today

Currently 82 with an average wind from the W of 4 mph. Feels like 85 degrees. Dew Point 69, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 65%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:42 am, Sunset 8:52 pm.

Mostly sunny with a 20% chance of afternoon showers. High around 90. SW winds 5 -15 mph. Heat index to 91-96.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low in the lower 70s. S winds 5 -10 mph.

Appears the heat is going to ramp back up for today with a fairly high heat index. Back on with the A/C for awhile it would seem. It started getting a tad warm early this morning so I suspect the afternoon with be on the uncomfortable side. Perhaps some rain  moving in tonight but we know how that goes…usually to the north or south of us. Would be nice to have a rainy night.  One of the weather sources has a good chance for some rain tomorrow, but not all of them. If we don’t get rain tonight or tomorrow, it will be the ending of next week before we get another opportunity.
