An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, March 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Dodged Another Weather Bullet

Currently 29 with an average wind from the NNE of 4 mph. Feels like 29 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 29.96, Humidity 93%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 7:49 pm

Mostly cloudy with a high in the mid 40s. E winds 5 – 10 mph becoming N in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 20s. Light winds.

Okay, so another round of messy mixed weather somehow slipped past us without leaving anything behind for us to have to deal with. Chilly out there, but no snow and no frozen mix stuff.  That being in our overnight forecast, waking up to this is the best option. I am a bit concerned about the lack of precipitation in that we could definitely use some rain (I have a friend in New Jersey and their recent wildfires are a direct result of not getting enough moisture laid down by Mother Nature in a timely manner), but at the moment, it does sound as if Thursday might bring us a bit of rain. Short of that, should that not happen, I don’t see any moisture for us until about next Tuesday. So I’m hoping for the need of an umbrella in a couple of days. I guess, once again, we’ll see how it goes.

Monday, March 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Expecting A Messy Night’s Weather

Monday, March 15, 2021-SW Michigan-Expecting A Messy Night’s Weather

Currently 25 with an average wind from the SE of 5 mph. Feels like 17 degrees. Dew Point 18, Barometer 30.38, Humidity 74%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:53 am, Sunset 7:48 pm.

Mostly sunny until about midday becoming mostly cloudy. High around 40. E winds 10-20 mph with gusts to around 30.

70% chance of snow likely possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. Snow accumulation 1″ or less. Low in the upper 20s. E winds 10-25 with gusts to 25.

This morning was beautiful. So much color in the sky and even though the forecast was for us to stay mostly sunny until midday, in less than an hour the sky had completely covered over with gray clouds. I’m just happy I was able to catch a glimpse – and a quick picture – of the color while it was there. Tonight sounds like it could become a true mess. Maybe. We do know how fast things can change and how often the crummy weather passes us by, but I don’t think we can always count on that. I think we might expect some of this unhappy weather during the seasonal change-over. Would rather skip that, but we don’t have much of a choice.  We take what we get. I guess we’ll figure out by morning what we were dealt tonight. Fingers crossed for it not to be too bad.

Sunday, March 14, 2021-SW Michigan- March Continues To Be Wonderful

Sunday, March 14, 2021-SW Michigan- March Continues To Be Wonderful

Currently 41 with an average wind from the WNW of 8 mph. Feels like 34 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.39, Humidity 35%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:56 am, Sunset 7:47 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 40s. NE winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 25.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the lower 20s. E winds 5 – 15 mph.

This continues to be one of those March months I’m always saying could be nice. Doesn’t get much more nice in SW Michigan than this one is being. Will we get more snow showers and wintry mix stuff? Yup…without question. In fact, tomorrow and tomorrow night might bring us just just a mess. But it won’t last and our temperatures are holding steady. This perks up my spirits like you couldn’t believe.  I realize that elsewhere in the country things aren’t going quite as nice and comfortable as we are but here is where I am. And here is perfectly lovely this year. Spring is getting a heard start and it couldn’t be more welcome.

Saturday, March 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Pleasant Weekend Ahead

Saturday, March 13, 2021-SW Michigan-Pleasant Weekend Ahead

Currently 35 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 35 degrees. Dew Point 15, Barometer 30.44, Humidity 44%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:58 am, Sunset 6:46 pm.

Sunny to partly sunny with a high around 50. SW winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to 25 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the lower 30s. W winds 5 -1 5 mph becoming NW 5 -10 mph.

This weekend the weather will be chilly but we’re going to see a good share of sunshine. Monday and Tuesday are shaping up to be a tad iffy. Might end up with some wintry mix, which is the worst, but whatever we get won’t last. The daytime temperatures will remain in the 40 – 50 degree range. We’ll just have to be careful during the messy parts.

Friday, March 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Wind Finally Going To Die Down

Friday, March 12, 2021-SW Michigan-Wind Finally Going To Die Down

Currently 41 with an average wind from the SW of 7 mph. Feels like 41 degrees. Dew Point 29, Barometer 30.35, Humidity 63%, Vitality 10 mi., Sunrise 7:00 am, Sunset 6:44 pm.

Sunny today with a high in the upper 40s. NW winds 10-20 with gusts to 30.

Mostly clear tonight with a low in the lower 20s. N winds 10-20 becoming light.

Still a bit breezy, but nothing like we’ve had the past few days. Very high winds in Michigan. I understand one of the enormous old trees on Midland Rd that has been the nesting spot for the Saginaw Eagles has succumbed to the high wind and is down. The Eagles trying to make sense of this is heartbreaking. Nest, eggs…down.  It’s things like this that remind you how cruel and heartless nature can be.

Still watching the prediction for the Denver area and the snowfall expected. Seems the numbers have been downplayed a bit today but still looks to be a whopper of a storm. Glad it’s not here.

Thursday, March 11, 2020-SW Michigan-The Rain Never Came

Thursday, March 11, 2020-SW Michigan-The Rain Never Came

Currently 50 with an average wind from the SSW of 13 with gusts to 22. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 40, Barometer 29.89, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:01 am, Sunset 6:43 pm.

Partly sunny until about midday becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. High in the upper 50s. SSW winds 15-25 mph with gusts to 40.

Mostly clear overnight. Low in the lower 30s. W winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20.

So, we not only didn’t get any thunder last night, if we got rain, it was negligible. What we did get was some fierce winds that evidently blew the rain clouds right on out of our picture. As of now, in spite of the fact that out in the Denver area where they’re expecting a couple of feet of snow, and the East Coast where it looks to be some whopper of a storm weather is building, I don’t see much in the line of precipitation for our area for days. And then only a slight chance of some frozen mix about next Monday. Of course, we know perfectly well how fast things can change but for now it looks dry and breezy around here. I guess we’ll see how it goes but for the time being  nice temperatures and strong winds are taking care of a lot of the mountains of snow we’ve build up along the edges.

Wednesday, March 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Thunder?

Wednesday, March 10, 2021-SW Michigan-Maybe Some Thunder?

Currently 54 with an average wind from the SSE of 5 mph. Feels like 54 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 6:42 pm.

Cloudy with a 20% chance of morning rain showers becoming partly sunny in the afternoon. High in the upper 60s. S winds 10-20 mph with gusts as high as 40.

60% chance of overnight rain shower. Low in the mid 50s. SW winds 15-20 mph with gust to 30-40 as the night continues.

So, we might get to hear some thunder tonight. Been some time since we’ve had a good rain with thunder and lightening.

Personally, I have just lost my oldest friend – so rain falling, like my tears, seems more than appropriate.

Tuesday, March 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Expecting Rain Next Couple Of Days

Tuesday, March 9, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Expecting Rain Next Couple Of Days

Currently 44 with an average wind from the ENE of 6 mph. Feels like 39 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 30.33, Humidity 7 mi., Sunrise 7:05 am, Sunset 6:41 pm.

Partly sunny becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. High in the mid 60s. SE winds around 10 mph becoming SW in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the mid 40s. S winds 5 -15 mph with gusts to around 25.

My goodness, just typing those numbers – low overnight temperature in the mid 40s? Might not stay there in a steady line, but just the fact that it’s starting to show up is encouraging. Even the fact that they are now starting to toss in the words snow showers for a couple of days next week – not any biggie. Spring has sprung. It may hop around a bit, play coy once in awhile, be elusive on occasion. But it’s here anyway.

Monday, March 8m, 2021-SW Michigan-Danger Of Overnight Freezing Fog

Monday, March 8m, 2021-SW Michigan-Danger Of Overnight Freezing Fog

Currently 48 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 23 degrees. Dew point 32, Barometer 30.22, Humidity 54%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:06 am, Sunset 6:39 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the lower 50s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy with overnight fog. Widespread freezing fog very possible. Low in the lower 30s. W winds around 10 mph becoming light.

Scary thought to wake up in the morning for the daily commute and having to face freezing fog. That’s a slippery danger to have to deal with. Just be cautious in the morning. Might be a problem, might not, just be prepared for the possibility.

Tomorrow could jolly well bring us our first 60 degree day in a long time, too. Some rain almost definite tomorrow and Wednesday, but we can use it to help us clear away winter. Still some chilly overnight temperatures coming our way, below freezing, but we’re heading in the right direction now. So eventually even the nighttime temps are going to be more comfortable.

Sunday, March 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Chilly But Warming Up

Sunday, March 7, 2021-SW Michigan-Still Chilly But Warming Up

Currently 31 with an average wind from the NE of 2 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 15, Barometer 30.43, Humidity 50%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:08 am, Sunset 6:38 pm.

Sunny today with a high around 40. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 30s. SE winds 5 -10 mph becoming S 5 -1 5 mph with gusts to 25.

It’s a pretty day today. Sunshine bright sky. But it’s cold. Still looking at at least one 60 degree day coming up this week and still looking at a couple of fairly certain rainy days. Looking forward to those days to help diminish the mountains of dirty looking snow. They’re not a pretty sight. But today is nippy and won’t be warming up much. I’ll take the sunshine even if the temperature is not rising up enough to make me comfortable. Bottom line, snow mountains on the way down, temperatures on the way up. It’s all on the way. That’s all that counts.
