An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Wednesday, April 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Cooler Than Yesterday

Currently 53 with an average wind from the WSW of 7 mph. Feels like 53 degrees. Dew point 50, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 84%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:41 am, Sunset 8:40 pm.

Partly cloudy today with a high around 68. W winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy with a 30% chance of overnight rain. Low 46. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Yesterday was lovely. Sat out in my little back patio communing with nature and loving every second of it. Quite a bit cooler today than yesterday. And will be cooler tomorrow and Friday, too. Drat.  Unfortunately, this particular pattern seems to be we get a warm day then pay for it for several afterwards. Looks like that is set to continue. Warm again on Sunday then right back to cooler for the week following. Don’t know about you, but getting tired of it. I want a nice steady warm. Something on an even keel – or as even as weather can be. Evidently that’s too much to ask. In the meantime a little light rain this morning, maybe some tonight and likely tomorrow. But I guess here in SW Michigan we can be grateful we aren’t getting anything severe like so many other states this Spring. Patience and gratefulness…trying to get it on…and keep it on.

Sunday, April 25, 2021-SW Michigan- Chilly Today But Heading To Warmth

Sunday, April 25, 2021-SW Michigan- Chilly Today But Heading To Warmth

Currently 38 with an average wind from the WSW of 10 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:44 am, Sunset 8:36 pm.

A mix of sun and clouds. High in the lower 50s. N W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy. Low in the mid 30s. NE winds 5 -10 mph becoming E with gusts to around 20 overnight.

Quite chilly out there today with the wind. The clouds have thinned out leaving plenty of fluffy lumps here and there parked in the deep blue. Leaves continue to unfold and add greenery to our landscape. Looking forward to Tuesday when it is predicted we will hit 80 degrees. Can. Not. Wait. March had been so promising and if I recall correctly we did hit 80 that month. April slid in as a bit of a disappointment but we’re going to warm up again. We’re ready.

Saturday, April 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Might Get Some Rain

Saturday, April 24, 2021-SW Michigan-Might Get Some Rain

Currently 48 with an average wind from the E of 1 mph. Feels like 47 degrees. Dew Point 39, Barometer 29.94 & falling, Humidity 67%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:46 am, Sunset 8:35 pm.

Cloudy with a 30% chance of rain. High 56. SW winds 5 – 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight rain. Low 32. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

Might be seeing a high in the upper 70s – maybe even hit 80 – about Tuesday. But don’t get real excited about it. It won’t last. It seems to be a one of. Not that the following week is going to be dreadful or anything, but it isn’t going to be cozying up to the 70 degree mark. 60s and 50s aren’t all that bad though considering the chill we’ve just been exposed to. Sounds okay to me. In the meantime, chance of rain today/tonight.

Thursday, April 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Up Heading Our Way

Thursday, April 22, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Up Heading Our Way

Currently 38 with an average wind from the WSW of 8 mph. Feels like 38 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 30.09 & rising, Humidity 67%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:49 am, Sunset 8:33 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the upper 40s. W winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly clear overnight with areas of frost. Low in the mid 30s. SW winds 5 -1 0 mph with gusts to 20 in the evening.

This morning’s sky was interesting. Thick patchy clouds that are now separating and fluffing up. These are, supposedly, due to pretty much vanish as the day goes on, leaving us plenty of glorious sunshine. Won’t warm up a tremendous amount today but hang in here…it’s on the way. This might be our last frosty night. Let’s hope so. I think we’ve seen enough cold to last us for awhile.

Wednesday, April 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Sick Of Cold Weather

Wednesday, April 21, 2021-SW Michigan-Sick Of Cold Weather

Currently 31 with an average wind from the NW of 3 mph. Feels like 31 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 30.13, Humidity 59%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:51 am, Sunset 8:31 pm.

Mostly sunny with a high in the lower 40s. NW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy with widespread frost overnight. Low in the upper 20s. W winds 5 -10 mph becoming SW.

Well, aren’t we about sick enough of this cold weather? Where the heck did spring go, anyway? Another night of freezing temperatures and hopefully we’ll turn the corner and head back into the right direction. We can only hope so. Peering ahead, it does look as if we’re going to be finished with the below freezing stuff, but hey…right now I’m not counting on anything much. At least we didn’t get the snow they were joyfully predicting for our area. There is that. And that’s about all.

Tuesday, April 20, 3021-SW Michigan – Miserable Cold Snap Continues

Tuesday, April 20, 3021-SW Michigan – Miserable Cold Snap Continues

Currently 33 with an average wind from the  WSW of 5 mph. Feels like 26. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.05, Humidity 67%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 6:52 am, Sunset 8:30 pm.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of afternoon rain. High in the lower 40s. NW winds 5 -10 with gusts to 20.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain and snow. Low in the upper 20s. N winds 5 – 10 mph with gusts to 25 in the evening.

This is just purely miserable weather for nearing the end of April. Little birds are out there shivering and huddling together trying to stay warm. Water in the birdbath becomes a skating rink overnight. Me? I don’t want to go outside at all. The only time today I’m going out there was this morning to toss bird and critter food out for the chilly creatures.  The sooner this mess clears out the better. Next week is looking decent – but that’s next week. This week is not a winner. It’s something to survive. And we shall, of course. Just not happy about it.

Monday, April 19, 2021-SW Michigan-Crummy Weather On The Way

Monday, April 19, 2021-SW Michigan-Crummy Weather On The Way

Currently 48 with an average wind from the SSW of 6 mph. Feels like 45 degrees. Dew Point 37, Barometer 29.76, Humidity 64%, Visibility 7 mi., Sunrise 6:54 am, Sunset 8:29 pm

Freeze Warning From Tuesday through Thursday. There go the tender new fruit tree buds and sensitive new growth.

70% chance of rain until about midday. High in the upper 40s. W winds 10-20 mph with gusts to 30.

Cloudy to partly cloudy overnight with widespread frost. Low in the lower 30s. NW winds 5 -10 mph with gusts to 20.

Nothing nice or pleasant about our weather forecast. Freeze warning? Snow? This is a miserable stretch of weather that is without a doubt going to do damage to plenty of things that took advantage of our early spring and started to grow. Wonderful. We finally get a good spring and Mother Nature decides to shatter it all. I have absolutely nothing good to say about what’s coming. My only hope is that it somehow doesn’t get as cold as predicted and that the snow misses us. Not a lot of faith in that hope coming to fruition.

Sunday, April 18, 2021-SW Michigan-Nice Today, Not So Nice On The Way

Sunday, April 18, 2021-SW Michigan-Nice Today, Not So Nice On The Way

Currently 51 with an average wind from the WSW of 2 mph. Feels like 51 degrees. Dew Point 19, Barometer 29.94, Humidity 28%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:55 am, Sunset 8:27 pm.

Partly sunny through early afternoon becoming mostly sunny. High around 60. Light winds becoming W 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy with a low of 43. SW winds around 10 mph with gusts to 20.

Today the sun will shine and the temperatures not so bad. What we’ve got coming Monday through Wednesday morning is anyone’s guess. Snow? Rain? Misery? I reckon we have to wait and see. The rainy night with temperatures in the twenties gives me pause….to me that translates into snow. So…this early Spring is going to turn on us and our fruit trees and tender buds are going to be in danger? Swell. You can count on Mother Nature’s benevolence  to be something we can’t count on. For me, I’ll be glad to see the back of this week and be past whatever we’re in store for.

Saturday, Apr8il 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Frosty Nights Continue

Saturday, Apr8il 17, 2021-SW Michigan-Frosty Nights Continue

Currently 50 with an average wind from the SE of 1 mph. Feels like 50 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.24, Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:57 am, Sunset 8:27 pm.

Mostly sunny with areas of frost until about midday. High in the upper 50s. Light winds becoming W 5-10 in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy with widespread frost overnight. Low in the lower 30s. NW winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light.

Still facing some nights with frost likely. And still facing a few chilly days about next Monday/Tuesday. In spite of the cold hanging around, the flowering bushes and trees are starting to get down to business. A few flowering trees doing nicely and the forsythia is gorgeous. That sunny yellow color is enough to lift my spirits. One of the prettiest and rather humble flower of spring’s offerings. Nothing flashy or in need of much publicity, never-the-less every spring it brightens things up, promising even more to come  And it does. Soon flowers of all sorts will be joining the club to brighten up our days. After the drabness of winter, these colors wake up our senses and lighten our moods. And Lord knows, we sure do need that.

Friday, April 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly Weather Hanging In Here

Friday, April 16, 2021-SW Michigan-Chilly Weather Hanging In Here

Currently 39 with an average wind from the NW 11 mph. Feels like 37 degrees. Dew Point 38, Barometer 29.95, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:59 am, Sunset 8:25 pm.

Cloudy until midday becoming partly cloudy. High in the lower 50s. NW winds 5 – 15 mph.

Mostly clear with widespread frost. Low in teh lower 30s. NW winds 5-10 mph becoming light.

Not warming up much yet and still stuck with nighttime temperature leading to frost. At least we’re not on the East Coast facing what looks – on the weather map – suspiciously like a huge winter storm. So, we do have that going for us. Doesn’t make us feel any warmer, but it does make us feel luckier.  Come on Spring. Get back to business and warm the heck up.
