An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.
Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021-SW Michigan-A Sunny Sept Sunday

Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021-SW Michigan-A Sunny Sept Sunday

Currently 67 with an average wind from the W of 1 mph. Feels like 67 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 29.84, Humidity 87%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:12 am, Sunset 8:12 pm.

Sunny with a high of 78 degrees. W winds 10-20 mph.

40% chance of overnight rain. Low 54 degrees. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

What a lovely September day. Sunny, comfortable temperatures. Can’t ask for much more. Oh, we could have asked for a little more rain yesterday but we, as usual, get what we get. I only measured about .20″ in the gauge this morning. Not much moisture but better than none, I reckon.  I did read one report that said summer type warmth could be back with us at some point in September, but we’ll see how that goes. I’d welcome it but I know lots of folks are ready for fall cool temperatures to come around.

Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-Small Chance Of Some Rain Today/Tonight

Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021-SW Michigan-Small Chance Of Some Rain Today/Tonight

Currently 70 with an average wind from the SE of 6 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 57, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 68%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:11 am, Sunset 8:14 pm.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of afternoon rain showers. High 73. SSW winds 10-15 mph.

60% chance of rain showers early then partial clearing overnight. Low 57. W winds 5 – 10 mph.

A few chances for rain this week – but we know how that goes, don’t we? Usually goes north, south east or west of us – but rarely on target. We could definitely use some of it, so hopefully at least some of it will reach us at least one of those opportunities. There is a small chance of getting back to an 80 degree day next weekend. Not this one. We should stay comfortably in the 70 degree range this week.

Friday, Sept. 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Rain Tomorrow, None Today

Friday, Sept. 3, 2021-SW Michigan-Slight Chance Of Rain Tomorrow, None Today

Nice looking sky today with the cloud and sun mixture. And feeling cool like Fall. Guess we just have to get used to that because after all, it’s Fall. Doesn’t matter what the ‘official’ dates are for Fall. Everyone knows that Sept., Oct., Nov – Fall. And here we are in September already. Amazing how fast the Summer flew by. Anyway, there is a fair chance of rain tomorrow and then again maybe next Tuesday. Otherwise, fair skies for us.

Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021-SW Michigan-Much Cooler Nights Now

Currently 65 with an average wind from the W  of 1 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 56, Barometer 29.95, Humidity 75%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:08 am, Sunset 8:19 pm.

Sunny. High 79. NE winds 10 -15 mph.

Clear overnight skies. Low 49. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Windows wide open at night now make the comforter on the bed feel downright comfy. Already. Didn’t take long, did it? Suddenly Summer seems to be exiting, stage left, quietly retiring it’s star character. Warmth. I’m, as usual, not ready for this. Never am. Not even after a nice hot Summer like we’ve had. Alas…since I have no say in the schedule of what weather stays or goes, I’m just going to have to adjust. As usual. Grumbling all the way.

Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021-SW Michigan-Fantastic Week Ahead

Mostly sunny until about midday then a mix of sun and clouds. High around 80. NE winds 5 -10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low of 55. NE winds 5 – 10 mph.

An amazing week ahead. Yeah…we do need rain, which we aren’t going to get, but the temperatures will be right smack in the comfortable zone. I don’t even see an 80 degree day there, all in the 70s. What a difference from the hot, humid mess we’ve had to deal with way too many times this summer. September is going to start off about perfect. Enjoy.

Monday, Aug. 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Much Cooler Today

Monday, Aug. 30, 2021-SW Michigan-Much Cooler Today

Sunny with a high around 83. WNW winds 10-15 mph.

Clear to partly cloudy. Low 58. NNW winds 5 – 10 mph.

So much cooler today and I think we’ve seen the backside of the 90 degree days. Plenty of people more than happy about that. My upstairs windows are open this morning for the fresh morning air and it feels delightful.  This should be a pleasant week ahead. Nothing drastic in view.

Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021-SW Michigan-Get Through Today, Next Week More Comfortable

50% chance of overnight scattered showers and thunderstorms. Low 63. W winds 10-15 mph.

Our weather is going to be hot today but much better this coming week. Farewell to the suppressive heat and humidity. We’ll all be breathing easier and enjoying the weather more than this past week. It’s been brutal.

Watching Hurricane Ida barrel into Louisiana area this morning. My hearts go out to everyone there. They’ve had more than their share of horrendous weather. Can’t believe it’s going to be hitting on exactly the same day as Katrina did. Unbelievable. Hopefully everyone able to leave has gone and those sticking it out are as prepared as they can be.

Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Gonna Be A Hot One

Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021-SW Michigan-Gonna Be A Hot One

Currently 79 degrees with an average wind from the ESE of 2 mph. Feels like 79 degrees. Due Point 74, Barometer 30.1, Humidity 86%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 7:02 am, Sunset 8:24 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 90s. SW winds 5 -15 mph. Heat index 100-105.

Partly cloudy with a low in the lower 70s. S winds 5 – 10 mph.

There is a Excessive Heat Warning in effect until 8:00 this evening. Dew Point, Barometer and Humidity reading are high enough to make it feel pretty uncomfortable today. Best thing to do is stay inside and keep cool. My thoughts go out to everyone who has to work outside in this heat. Can’t be fun. Can be deadly if proper precautions aren’t taken. Just make sure they are. Drink plenty of fluid – preferably water – and get inside when you can. Once we get past tomorrow, the next week is going to feel much better. Hang in there.

Friday, Aug. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Today, More So Tomorrow

Friday, Aug. 27, 2021-SW Michigan-Warm Today, More So Tomorrow

Currently 74 degrees with an average wind from the SE of 3 mph. Feels like 75 degrees. Dew Point 71, Barometer 30.09, Humidity  91%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:03 am, Sunset 8:27 pm.

Some overnight clouds with a 20% chance of a stray shower or thunderstorm. Low 71. SE winds 5 – 10 mph.

Some thunder yesterday evening and some dark clouds but not on single drop of rain fell in my backyard. Tomorrow, if things stand as predicted could be another 90+ day…so just be prepared. Next week does sound cooler than what we’ve been having to deal with this week. Sound good, doesn’t it?
