An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Currently 75 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 74, Dew Point 73, Barometer 29.91, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:35 am, Sunset 9:00 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of morning showers and thunderstorms will become mostly sunny in the afternoon. High in the upper 80s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 20 becoming NW in the afternoon.

Partly cloudy overnight. Low in the upper 60s. NE winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 25.

A totally overcast sky this morning but hope it will clear out and allow some sun to break through later on. Yesterday did bring my area a good solid soaking rain with plenty of thunder and lightning. No wind to speak of around here though. Haven’t seen any rain yet this morning but the air is heavy enough with moisture to make it seem like a possibility.   Sounds like a hot weekend coming up with rain likely on Sunday. I’d like to think not but as of right now, Sunday rain in the picture.

Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022-SW Michigan-Potential For Some Severe Storms

80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some t-storms may produce heavy rain. High near 90 with a heat index to 99. SW winds 10-20 mph with gusts to around 30.

80% chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms. Some of the thunderstorms again have the potential to be severe. Low in the upper 60s. SW winds 5-15 mph.

Not a pleasant day. It’s going to be hot, humid and sticky. Plus there is the chance for some heavy thunderstorms, some severe storms, to be watching out for. This system seems determined to be with us through tomorrow morning. Look again for a similar situation Saturday night through Monday morning.  It’s a possibility as of now. Not the best of weather coming our way, but it’s to be expected now and again. This seems to be our now.

Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Clear Today, Rain Moving In Starting Tonight

Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022-SW Michigan-Clear Today, Rain Moving In Starting Tonight

Hope you get a chance to get out and about today in this lovely day since rain seems determined to move in tonight and pretty much take over tomorrow. Rain might linger on into Thursday morning. Maybe. Maybe not. Do look for some hot days this week but right now the number 90 isn’t showing up. Close, but not quite. We shall see.

Monday, Aug. 1, 2022-SW Michigan-Welcome August With A Little Rain

Currently 75 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 73 degrees. Dew Point 70, Barometer 29.74, Humidity 91%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:32 am, Sunset 9:04 pm.

The morning started out partly cloudy, but it quickly clouded up presenting us with a light rain. Looks like off and on rain today. Look for mor rain around Tuesday night through Thursday morning with Wednesday probably being the warmest day of the week. Not a bad first week of August. A little rain, a little sun, some clouds. Mixing it up is good.

Sunday, July 31, 2022-SW Michigan-Farewell To July – Already

Sunday, July 31, 2022-SW Michigan-Farewell To July – Already

Currently 65 with an average wind from the SE at 3 mph. Feels like 65 degrees. Dew Point 62, Barometer 30.07, Humidity 73%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:31 am, Sunset 9:09 pm.

Partly cloudy with a low in the mid 60s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 overnight.

Today will be another winner – the last of the month of July. Can’t believe how fast it’s flown. Look for some rain on Monday and again Wednesday on into early Thursday. Still looks like at least one day touching 90 degrees, but that’s down from the original 3 they were talking about. Hey – we can take one. Easy. Anyway, enjoy today, it’s going to be a good one.

Saturday, July 30, 2022-SW Michigan-A Great Summer Day In Store For Us

Saturday, July 30, 2022-SW Michigan-A Great Summer Day In Store For Us

Currently 68 with an average wind from the S of 2 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 64, Barometer 30.15, Humidity 71%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:30 am, Sunset 9:06 pm.

Sunny with a high in the lower 80s. SW winds around 10 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the upper 50s. SW winds 5 mph.

Great weather for us today. Not overly warm, no wind to speak of,  clear blue skies. I guess this is about a perfect summer day. Look for some rain perhaps around Monday. And for the heat to ramp up starting about Tuesday. But for now, this weekend is going to be terrific. Enjoy.

Friday, July 29, 2022-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today, Heat Is Coming Back

Friday, July 29, 2022-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today, Heat Is Coming Back

Currently 70 with an average wind from the SW of 3 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 58, Barometer 29.92, Humidity 63%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:29 am, Sunset 9:07 pm.

Sunny. High in the mid 70s. W winds 5=15 mph.

Mostly clear overnight. Low in the mid 50s. NW winds around 10 mph becoming light.

Yesterday and today, with very comfortable 70 degrees, could hardly be improved on. Hopefully you’ve been able to enjoy them because it is, unfortunately, coming to an end.  The heat will now once again begin to build until about midweek next week when we will be flirting with 90 degrees again for several sweltering days. Most likely dip into the 90s once or twice. The only thing we can hold on to then is at least we won’t be dealing with the 100-degree days so many other places around our nation have had to cope with this summer.  And even when we do heat up to uncomfortable temperatures, it rarely sticks around very long. We’re pretty lucky here in SW Michigan. Do try to keep that in mind when you’re sweltering under the 90 degrees and grumbling about the heat :>)

Thursday, July 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Enjoy The Seventy Degree Days

Thursday, July 28, 2022-SW Michigan-Enjoy The Seventy Degree Days

Currently 70 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 70 degrees. Dew Point 67, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 89%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:28 am, Sunset 9:08 pm.

Party sunny with a 20% chance of morning showers and thunderstorms in the morning. High in the upper 70s. W winds 10-20 mph.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the upper 50s. W winds 5-10 mph becoming light.

Today, tomorrow…lovely 70-degree days that won’t be with us much longer than that. The heat begins to build soon after and next week we’ll be back in the upper 80s, maybe some 90s. So this is a small but welcome respite from all of that warmth. A light rain this morning left everything fresh and clean looking. Perhaps there will be some rain about next Monday but not a great chance. We’ll see how it goes.

Wednesday, July 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Gloomy Morning Perhaps Some Afternoon Rain

Wednesday, July 27, 2022-SW Michigan-Gloomy Morning Perhaps Some Afternoon Rain

Currently 68 with an average wind from the SE of 2 mph. Feels like 68 degrees. Dew Point 68, Barometer 29.82, Humidity 94%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 6:27 am, Sunset 9:09 pm.

Partly cloudy (it says) with a 30% chance of showers and a slight chance of a thunderstorm. High in the lower 80s. SW winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Partly cloudy with a 20% chance of overnight showers. Low in the lower 60s. SW winds 5-10 mph in the evening becoming light.

I see not so much as an iota yet this morning of a partly cloudy sky. Pretty much entirely overcast. Not a great chance for rain this afternoon or overnight but there is some. Wouldn’t be a bad idea. Only other slight chance for show showers seems to be about next Monday night. Other than that, dry and heating up. Next week promises to be much warmer than this one.

Tuesday, July 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Should Be A Fine Summer Day

Tuesday, July 26, 2022-SW Michigan-Should Be A Fine Summer Day

Currently 64 with a calm wind from the SSE. Feels like 64 degrees. Dew Point 58, Barometer 30., Humidity 64%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 6:26 am, Sunset 9:10 pm.

Mostly sunny today with a high in the upper 70s. Light winds.

Partly cloudy with a 30% chance of some overnight rain. Low in the lower 60s. Light winds.

Seems like a pleasant summer day in store for us today. Maybe some rain tonight and on into tomorrow morning. I’m hoping we do get some because it looks like a long dry week ahead of us with no precipitation in sight. At least not for now. This week should remain in the comfort summer zone but look for the week after to heat back up into the hot zone. It’s summer, after all.
