Friday, Jan. 31, 2025-SW Michigan-Morning Fog, Rain Perhaps Snow Later

Friday, Jan. 31, 2025-SW Michigan-Morning Fog, Rain Perhaps Snow Later

Currently 36 with an average wind from the NNE of 7 mph. Feels like 32 degrees. Dew Point 35, Barometer 29.73, Humidity 100%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 7:58 am, Sunset 5:53 pm.

Patchy fog until about midday. Partly cloudy with a 70% chance of rain showers. Could be some snow showers mixed in. High in the upper 30s. NE winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 30.

Partly cloudy with a low of 15-20. N winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Hard to tell but it could be  messy little day. Fog, rain, maybe snow showers? Nothing like variety. Look for temperatures tomorrow to be back in the 20s. Sunday will be back into the upper 30s or lower 40s. With snow and again maybe some rain mixed in.  No question about it, we’re in a for day with temperatures up and down. It seems to be the way it’s shaping up. Some days in the 30s, some 40s…perhaps dipping into the 20s. Reckon the way to success is to be keeping an eye on the weather and be ready for any of it. At least we’re saying goodby to January as we are set to usher in February.  For me the last official winter month because as we all know MARCH COULD BE NICE.

Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today’s Sunshine

Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025-SW Michigan-Enjoy Today’s Sunshine

Currently 30 with an average wind from the SSE of 2 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 27, Barometer 29.93, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 7:59 am, Sunset 7:59 pm

Mostly sunny with a lower 40s. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of rain showers. Possible freezing rain mixed in during the night. Low in the lower 30s. SW winds 5-10 mph with gusts to around 20 in the evening becoming light.

Today will be a delight but there could be some messy weather coming our way. Rain/ freezing rain/snow…we could get a variety over the next few days. Let’s hope with the higher temperature we’ll just be in the rain range. Until it’s snow. Then hopefully nothing but snow. It’s the mixing that becomes problematic. In the meantime, looking like  a lot of 30 degree days next week for us. Well, likely some 20 degrees mixed in, but not too bad for beginning the short, cruel month of February.  We shall see how it all plays out.

Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025-SW Michigan-Some 40 Degrees Days Approaching

Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025-SW Michigan-Some 40 Degrees Days Approaching

Currently 34 with a 5 mph wind from the West. Feels like 27 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 29.75, Humidity 80%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:51 pm.

Partly sunny with a high in the mid 30s. NW winds 10-25 mph with gusts to around 30.

Party cloudy. Low in the lower 20s. W winds 5-10 mph becoming S overnight.

Hard to imagine but it does look as if our near future might have a few 40 degree days in it. Not going to be the norm yet, that’s for certain, but will be welcome for how many or for how long they hang around. A nice way to wind up January and usher in February. Maybe some rain/snow on Friday and Sunday. That’s okay at least it won’t be brutal cold and snow. If the temperature cooperates we’ll be getting rain. That should go a ways toward eliminating a lot of the ground snow for a while. Nothing wrong with that, either. We’ve had plenty so far – with, I’m sure, more to come.

Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025-SW Michigan-Several Days Over 30 Degrees

Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025-SW Michigan-Several Days Over 30 Degrees

Currently 32 with an average wind from the SSE of 4 mph. Feels like 28 degrees. Dew Point 25, Barometer 29.72, Humidity 81%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:49 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers. Patchy blowing snow in the afternoon. High in the upper 30s. SW winds 5-10 mph increasing to 10-20 mph with gusts to 40.

Partly cloudy in the evening becoming mostly cloudy. Patchy blowing snow in the evening.  Low in the upper 20s. W winds 15-20 with gusts to around 35.

Look for temperatures in the 30s until Saturday. A big dip that day but warming up again on Sunday. Supposedly. Possible freezing rain Thursday night into Friday. Or maybe not. Depends on which weather station you check on. Seems like plenty of wind whipping through with possible blowing snow mixed in there. Or again, maybe not. Just a messy little January streak.  At any rate, enjoy these few days that aren’t down in the 20 degree range. We will, for certain, be getting more of them.

Monday, Jan. 27, 2025-SW Michigan-Comfortable Temps This Week

Monday, Jan. 27, 2025-SW Michigan-Comfortable Temps This Week

Currently 27 with an average wind from the S of 7 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 29.8, Humidity 69%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:48 pm.

Sunny and windy with a 50% chance of afternoon snow showers. Patchy blowing snow possible in the afternoon High in the lower 30s. SW winds 15-25 with gusts to round 45.

Partly cloudy with a 40% chance of overnight snow showers.  Patchy blowing snow in the evening. Low 15-20 with 15-20 with gusts to around 40 becoming NW 5-15 with gusts to 25 overnight.

Not a bad morning with a prediction for an evening not so pleasant. Look for a week of temperatures in the 30s. Perhaps some snow scattered around once in awhile but not a bad week. Appears as if temperatures will fall again into the 20s next week, so I guess we need to appreciate this one. Or try, anyway.

Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025-SW Michigan-Some Warmer Days Coming

Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025-SW Michigan-Some Warmer Days Coming

Currently 27 with an average wind from the S of 4 mph. Feels like 19 degrees. Dew Point 20, Barometer 30.2, Humidity 72%, Visibility 10 mi, Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:47 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a high in the mid 20. W winds 10-15 mph.

Mostly clear with a low 15-20. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Not overly warm today but the sunshine makes it feel better than it is. This coming week, however, brings us a lot of days in the 30 degree range. Might be some snow mixed in here and there, but hey…30 degrees. We’ll take it.

Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025-SW Michigan- Finally A Bit Of Warmth For Our Day

Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025-SW Michigan- Finally A Bit Of Warmth For Our Day

Currently 23 with an average wind from the S of 5 mph. Feels like 18. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.01, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:04 am, Sunset 5:45 pm.

Partly sunny with a 20% chance of afternoon snow showers. High in the lower 30s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Low 15-20 with gusts to around 30.

What a difference – feels fairly balmy out there this morning. Well, maybe not quite, but much better than the close to zero mornings we just lived through. Looking ahead, it would appear as if a good scattering of 30 degree days will be ours for a bit. Might be dropping back into the 20s here and there along the way but still…Getting close to the end of January which, for me, only leaves one really tough month to get through. February. Short but cruel as a general rule and then we’ll be into March. And March Could Be Nice. We’ll see how it goes this year. In the meantime, enjoy the 30 degrees while we have it.

Friday, Jan. 24, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Cold and Snowy

Friday, Jan. 24, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Cold and Snowy

Currently 18 with an average wind from the SSW of 3 mph. Feels like 18 degrees. Dew Point 13, Barometer 30.16, Humidity 83%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:44 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 20% chance of snow showers until about midday. High around 20. SW winds around 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of snow showers. Low near 10. S winds 5-15 mph with gusts to around 25.

Not much to say except it’s just keeping on keeping on. There is the chance for tomorrow of seeing a 30 degree day. Of course it could still come with a chance for more snow showers, but hey…at least it will be a tad warmer. Looks like a lot of 20 degree days coming up – but peering way, way ahead to the week after next – right now it could bring us more 30 degree days to break up the monotony,  We shall see how it goes. In the meantime we’re stuck with cold and snow showers for what seems to be about ever. January in Michigan. Me? I’m looking forward to spring like your wouldn’t believe.

Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025-SW Michigan-Warmed Up A Bit

Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025-SW Michigan-Warmed Up A Bit

Currently 19 with an average wind from the WNW of 9 mph. Feels like 12 degrees. Dew Point 16, Barometer 30.04, Humidity 86%, Visibility 5 mi., Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:43 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. High in the mid 20s. NW winds 5-15 mph.

Partly cloudy becoming mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight snow showers. Low near 10. NW winds around 10 mph becoming light.

Well, it’s not exactly balmy but it is at least in the 20s. This, compared to what we’ve just been through, is quite an improvement. We could see a 30 degree day on Saturday – of course, it will also bring with it another chance for more snow showers, but we can’t have it all.  And in spite of it all, we are much more prepared for the cold and snow than the deep south states that have been hammered by Winter Storm Enzo. Rare snowfall in Florida, heavy snow in Louisiana and Texas…so many states shut down due to what we would consider our usual winter weather. Not usual for the deep south, but they’re getting a share right now anyway. Hope they all stay safe and made memories – because chances are they won’t see this happen again, perhaps not in their lifetime. Where we, on the other hand and unfortunately, will see plenty more of it before spring comes along to bring us much needed relief.

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Beastly Cold

Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025-SW Michigan-Still Beastly Cold

Currently 1 degree with an average wind from the SSE of 4 degrees. Feels like -13 degrees. Dew Point -3, Barometer  30.15, Humidity 74%, Visibility 9 mi, Sunrise 8:06 am, Sunset 5:42 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow showers. Areas of blowing snow possible.  High around 20. S winds 10-25 with Wind Chill Readings as low as -21 until midday.

90% chance of overnight snow showers. 1-3″ possible. Low near 15. SW winds 5-16 mph with gusts to 25.

Still a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until Thursday.

This remains a brutal stretch of weather. Bitterly cold and snow showers simply keep on showing up. And they will, off and on for a while. Looking way ahead, we could actually see a 30 degree day coming our way next week. But first we have to get through this weather mess. More lake effect snow combined with a clipper system streaming through  over the lake water absolutely guarantees we’ll be seeing a few more inches of snow. Personally, I’m good and sick of shoveling and I don’t even have to do all that much. Any is too much in my book.

As unhappy as I am with our weather, can’t imagine how folks must feel in the deep south – as south as some beaches of Florida – about the cold and snow they got from Winter Storm Enzo. This is a lifetime event for people and they likely won’t be seeing anything like this again. The system is working it’s way to the coast and on out, but for the time being, things are shut down due to snow and ice in place that shouldn’t be affected by any of it. Hoping everyone stays safe. At least they know they’ll be out of it all in a while. We, on the other hand, are stuck with this for some time to come. And we definitely will be seeing more of it over time.  Spring seems SO far away this winter.
