An unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the weather, an observer of world-wide weather events, and an addicted fan of the Weather Channel on TV. Some occurrences from our not too distant past have left me horrified to this day- such as the possibly avoidable tragedy of the damage and death trailing behind Katrina, where human error combined with Mother Nature for sheer terror, the unspeakable destructive Tsunamis in Japan and Thailand, scenes and sounds of which I can hardly bear to see or hear. But I do see and hear it all because I am enthralled, fascinated, by weather driven happenings every bit as much as I am captivated by the clouds in our ever-changing sky. No impressive credentials, no list of meaningful letters trailing after my name, this is merely me, just another weather junky having my say about it all.

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022-SW Michigan-Cloudy But Dry Today

Currently 29 with an average wind from the ENE of 7 mph. Feels like 21 degrees. Dew Point 28, Barometer 30.21, Humidity 93%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:05 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. E winds 10-15 mph.

Cloudy with a 50% chance of overnight snow. Low around 30. E winds 10-120 mph with gusts to 30.

My how quickly things can change. It would seem, as of right now, that all of the freezing mix has vanished from our weekly forecast. The warm air from the south is being kind enough to temporarily reach up farther than expected bringing us fairly warm temperatures for the next several days. So we will have chances of rain through Wednesday and then it changes to chances of snow through Saturday night. Much better than freezing rain. Snow we can cope with. Roads can be tricky but not as treacherous as when freezing rain is coating everything. So – for now Winter Storm Diaz is going to be bring us some snow later this week. Will absolutely having people saying the old It’s Looking A Lot Like Christmas. Not much question that we will be having the favored White Christmas this year. Things are definitely looking in that direction.

Monday, Dec. 12, 2022-SW Michigan-Plenty Of Clouds Today

Monday, Dec. 12, 2022-SW Michigan-Plenty Of Clouds Today

Currently 31 with an average wind from the NE of 5 mph. Feels like 26 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 30.24, Humidity 94%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy. High in the mid 30s. Light winds becoming 5-10 in the afternoon.

Cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 20d. E winds 5-10 mph.

Winter Storm Diaz is busy out to the west of us but it’s going to be heading in our direction as the week progresses. Sounds like it’s going to start out as too many days of freezing rain. Look out for that Tuesday night right on through Thursday when it finally settles down to snow by Thursday night. Looking at snow, then, well into Sunday. This is, at least, what the picture looks like for now. We all know how things can change but I’d be looking at a miserable week of weather coming our way. I guess enjoy today and early tomorrow. The driest of many days ahead.

Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022-SW Michigan-Light Drizzle, Fog, Lots Of Clouds

Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022-SW Michigan-Light Drizzle, Fog, Lots Of Clouds

Currently 33 with an average wind from the NNE of 2 mph. Feels like 33 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 30.06, Humidity 100%, Visibility 0.25 mi., Sunrise 8:03 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a 30% chance of drizzle and light snow. Areas of fog until about midday. High in the upper 30s. Light winds.

Cloudy with a low in the upper 20s overnight. light winds.

Still seeing way, way too many episodes of freezing drizzle being called for in our forecast next week. Just be careful ’cause it’s looking like a messy handful of days. Quite foggy this morning, probably going to be seeing a lot of this hanging around too for awhile until winter finally settles in and evens things out.

Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022-SW Michigan-No Precipitation Expected Until Tonight

Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022-SW Michigan-No Precipitation Expected Until Tonight

Currently 30 with an average wind from the ENE of 5 mph. Feels like 25 degrees.  Dew Point 29, Barometer 30.17, Humidity 94%, Visibility 9 mi., Sunrise 8:02 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Cloudy with a high in the upper 30s. E winds 5-10 with gusts to 20 until about midday.

Cloudy with a 40% chance of freezing drizzle and snow showers. Low 30s. Light winds.

Nothing much expected today but tonight could get a bit messy. Maybe tomorrow morning. There is far too many instances of frozen mix or drizzle showing up in our forecast right on through next week. Winter Storm Diaz is going to be storming through the country next week. It looks as if we won’t be getting the brunt of it like out west, but some of it will undoubtedly be impacting our area. Would rather see nothing but snow from that system, but unfortunately, as of now, it appears our share might include frozen mix or freezing drizzle.  Just be careful next week, no matter what we get, be ready for it.

Friday, Dec. 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance For A Bit of Snow

Friday, Dec. 9, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance For A Bit of Snow

Currently 29 with an average wind from the ENE of 11 mph. Feels like 17, Dew Point 26, Barometer 30.18, Humidity 88%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:01 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

70% chance of snow in the evening with the possibility of 1″ accumulation. High in the lower 30s. E winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

50% chance of evening snow with the possibility of patchy freezing drizzle overnight. Low in the upper 20s. E winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

Could get a little snow to make those Christmas lights even prettier. Not thrilled with the words freezing drizzle showing up every place the word snow is inserted in our forecast. Next week looks to give us way too many opportunities for that to happen. Most everyone would welcome some snow now – after all, the Christmas scene and all – but nothing spoils that faster than ice or freezing drizzle. Let’s all hope for it to do the right thing and simply give us some snow.

Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022-SW Michigan-Look For Some Snow Tomorrow

Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022-SW Michigan-Look For Some Snow Tomorrow

Currently 30 with an average wind from the SW of 4 mph. Feels like 25 degrees. Dew Point 30, Barometer 30.28, Humidity 99%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 8:00 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy today with a high in the mid 40s. NE winds 5-10 mph.

Partly cloudy overnight with a low in the upper 20s. E winds 5-15 mph.

The snow seems to have vanished from tonight’s forecast but look for an inch or two tomorrow. I would say it’s very likely we’ll see much more than that about mid-week next week. The opportunity seems to be there with a big storm system moving into the west coast and set to move across the nation, as they always do. Early on to say whether we’ll get a lot of a little, but for sure we’ll be getting some. We’ve seen these systems slide to the south or the north. Who knows right now?  Be ready for it, just in case.

Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022-SW Michigan, Cloudy And Cool

Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022-SW Michigan, Cloudy And Cool

Mostly clear in the evening becoming partly cloudy. Low in the upper 20s. N winds 5-10 mph becoming NE.

Still looking much like what things looked like yesterday. Chance for precipitation Thursday night into Friday. Only new thing is there appears to be several opportunities for a frozen mix starting the enter the picture for next week. Hopefully that will change by the time we get to that point. We’ll see. In the meantime, the roads are staying decent for traveling about. Good enough.

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance For Freezing Drizzle

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022-SW Michigan-Chance For Freezing Drizzle

Currently 36 with an average wind from the N of 3 mph. Feels like 30 degrees. Dew Point 33, Barometer 29.91, Humidity 92%, Visibility 8 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Mostly cloudy with a 30% chance of overnight freezing drizzle. Low in the lower 30s. Light winds.

Should see a bit of sunshine tomorrow. Still looking like some overnight snow on Thursday followed by the possibility of freezing rain on Friday. At some point we’ll be getting precipitation of some sort before Saturday. Would rather not see the freezing drizzle words showing up. That can get treacherous very quickly. At any rate, do be careful this week and keep an eye on the weather and the roads.

Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022-SW Michigan-Bright But Chilly

Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022-SW Michigan-Bright But Chilly

Currently 33 with an average wind from the SSW of 7 mph. Feels like 22 degrees. Dew Point 23, Barometer 30.02, Humidity 66%, Visibility 10 mi., Sunrise 7:57 am, Sunset 5:07 pm.

Sunny. High in the mid 30s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30.

Mostly clear overnight with a low in the upper 20s. SW winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.

It’s a pretty day, a bit on the nippy side, especially when that wind kicks in. But at least it’s dry. Can’t complain about that for December in Michigan. Could be a bit of rain tomorrow – or not. It seems to be a toss-up between weather reports. At any rate, nothing drastic on the horizon so far. Chilly but getting a share of sunshine isn’t all bad.
